I love my 300 wsm. I've been shooting 168s for trajectory and a little less recoil, but they're right to highlight the versatility. It just checks a whole lot of boxes.

I switched from my all time second favorite cartridge now the 30-06 to the 300 WSM after a couple years of hunting with my father in law and seeing his performance at the range and on animals really drove me to it.. not that my 06 ever let me down but it definitely makes my critters dead faster and shoots flatter

I have been waiting for this video. Mark would normally get heat for his affinity for the .300 WSM. The A-Bolt I think is what he used for his black bear hunt. I could see it being an all around round. I would sometimes watch the channel Rogee Productions from New Zealand. That guy hunts with a .300 WSM and it is still quite effective at 500 - 600 yards, which is often the only shot that he can get.

I’ve been looking for the 200 grain terminal ascents for the last 2 years and have yet to find them for sale. My 300 wsm loves them over rl 26 and the cci br2 primers. I have been able to pick up the 155 grain terminal ascents for my 7s and as of 2 weeks ago they were still available online. They are incredibly accurate and have functioned beautifully out to 640 yards on both elk and mulies. P.s. this one was a treat! 7mm wsm is my favorite of all time then the 300wsm. I love my browning ABolt II left hand medallion 7mm wsm it was my first rifle I bought myself when I turned 18. Then my 2nd was a model 70 left hand sporter III 300wsm. Guys really missed out by snubbing the 7mm wsm 20 yrs ago. The 7mm is really really good for long range. Plenty of knock down at long range, less drift and flatter shooting then the 300wsm. 162 eldx or 168 accubond LR in the 7mm wsm. My 300 wsm collects dust while 7mm wsm is always in my hand. I will agree the browning in a wsm is fantastic you can pump two rounds in an elk faster than any other rifle. My rifle is l 9lbs with laminate stock Pilar and action bedded, 2lbs trigger 4x16x44 scope and a muzzle break is a must to track ur shot. I got that abolt at 18 and I’ll prob die hunting with that abolt. I have spare 7mm wsm barrels for it

I have a cousin that hunts a lot more than me. He shot out a Remington 700 in 7mm Rem Mag. Then he got a Tikka in 300 Win Mag. It started loosing accuracy so he got one in 300 WSM and likes it a lot more than the 300 Win Mag. It's a pretty well balanced cartridge for those who can tolerate some recoil even though Remi eventually mounted a muzzle brake. I'm surprised he went with the 200 grain load. You would think such a long bullet would take too much space in the powder column and end up with much lower velocities. But I can't say I disagree with the bullet type. I use the Trophy Bonded Tip that predates the Terminal Ascent but they are very similar in construction. I too feel it's the best bullet out there for big game hunting if your rifle shoots them well. Nice to hear Remi validate my opinion. Now if anyone would load that bullet for 7mm PRC or 6.8 Western I might have to buy a new rifle. Until then I'll just keep what I'm shooting now.

I have one in left hand, stainless with the BOSS in 7mm Rem Mag that has accounted for 167 big game animals in 11 states & 3 countries. Whether in .300 WSM, 7mm RM or .280 (my back up) these well-made rifles are consistently accurate and durable.

Mark’s favorite seems to be a little more gun than most people need. Even Remy says he shoots it better with a brake. I’m sure it has to do with recoil. 300 wsm is not really a fun range day gun to some of us. But if you are a big game long range and lots of energy on target 🎯 guy. It is a good choice. The 100lbs deer 🦌 we have here will probably be a little to dead. 200 grain terminal accent will probably shoot through 10 of em. Happy hunting guys. And good luck 👍.

Had one and sold it. It did not kill reindeer quicker or deader than my 6,5x55. So I went back to that.
A problem with all straight cased cartrigdes is that they dont chamber so smooth. And I have also experienced rounds dropping out of the magazine.
No, the old 6,5x55 was made for war (killing of soldiers and horses) and feeds and extracts silky smooth. It is now my only cartrigde.

Fun conversation. I'm curious though why these discussions always involve WSM (Winchester Short Magnum) cartridges, and fully neglect the RCM (Ruger Compact Magnum) cartridges? Designed by Hornady, they accomplish roughly the same objective of matching Win. Mag cartridge performance with a short action option but are optimized for 20" length barrels vs. the standard WSM 24". Seems like a superior hunting-focused cartridge design. Maybe everyone just prefers Herstal Group brands instead? Good stuff though, keep it coming.

I have the exact same gun other than mine is chambered in 7mm wsm. Browning A-bolt stainless stalker and after owning it for a while, I also added a muzzle brake. The rifle is pretty light and kicked like a mule. I shoot mine a lot better off of the bench now. I also added a Timney trigger spring and the trigger pull is outstanding compared to what it was from the factory. I have taken several big game animals with it and it's fantastic. It's too bad this cartridge isn't more popular.

well theres a case to be made for 7mm rem mag or even 7mm RUM, with 150-175 gr pills, the .284 cal usually has better B.C. than 30 cal's, yes the 7 rem mag and 7 rum are longer but the added weight of the tools really isnt that much more, my T3X 7mm rem mag is 6.5 lbs without a scope, many folks seem to assume u need a heavy pill in a large caliber or huge cartridge, when in reality a 120 gr E-tip in a 270 or 6.5 creed, or 6.5 prc, or 7mm-08 with a well place dome shot will be lights out just keep the range within 250 yards with a 200 yard zero

300 win mag is a long action bolt and the wsm is a short action.
They are identical from the muzzle and out to about 1400 yards. Then the 300 win mag rakes an advantage but that is with factory ammo
If you hand load, they are identical except for how far the bolt goes back

If you're talking one calibre for everything it's a great choice. I don't own a 7mm PRC but I like the BC and the more modern design. My only reservation is that I can't use one calibre for everything. Meat destruction on smaller game is a real concern. Whitetail deer are easy to kill and I prefer calibres like the 25 06, 6.5 Creedmoor, 270 Winchester, 7mm08 for the job. Elk and above you could use some of these calibres at reasonable distances and well designed projectiles. However, if I'm walking around in Alaska, ( haven't yet) I definitely want something bigger like the 300 WSM.

🤴 Before you go crowing it as the King, you might want to research what inspired it! 🕵️‍♂️ The Lazzeroni Patriot (a faster 30 caliber Short Action Magnum cartridge) was out nearly 2 decades before, but it's chambering in the Savage and Sako models in the 1990's sparked someone's interest at Winchester and elsewhere! And, prior to that, the 6.5 Remington Magnum was out 2 decades earlier than the Short Action Lazzeroni cartridges - and the 6.5 Remington Magnum has a "performance" very similar to the 6.5 prc (it comes very close to being exactly the same, but came out in the 1960's)! So, despite advances in powder and bullets, the cartridges themselves didn't accomplish something that had never been done before! 😱 I just thought you might know that and, just maybe, you can do a video or two into some of these other great cartridges? 🤠 Plus, Mark, it will give you yet another chance to talk about your favorite cartridge! 🤣 Their isn't really anything new under the sun, so to speak! 🌞

The WSM line was a great idea but the lawsuits and eventual settlement over patients may in the end doom the WSM line. Manufactures are avoiding it instead opting for the new PRC line. The 7 and 325 are all but gone. 270 had some success but Winchester's own 6.8 Western is a more modern replacement. 300 WSM is still hanging because of its original popularity, its overall performance, and the only magnum powered short action 30 cal that is commercially relevant.

300 WSM... it's OK. Short action? Doesn't really do much. Weight savings and accuracy... meh. My 6lb 300 RUM shoots sub MOA. I'm building a 20-inch do all lightweight hunting rifle and am considering 7PRC, 300-win, and 300WSM. The WSM is now off my short list. Little ammo is currently out there for it. I'm leaning toward the 300 Win. There are just many more ammo options out there, including Hornady Superformance! Perhaps I'm wrong, but why do I feel all the WSMs are on the way out? The PRCs might be giving the WSMs a spanking?😮
