I have a custom 300 WSM that shoots 190 Berger bullets with extreme accuracy at 600 plus yards. On different occasions I have made insane shots with this rifle and it totally devastates Elk at those same distances. Two years ago I shot a legal bull in the neck at 535 yards away. The bull was walking away from me and he was about to go over the ridge out of my sight. The bull stopped and slightly quartered sticking his neck out to eat some grass. I had my scope dialed to the yardage, put the crosshairs on his neck and squeezed the trigger.. He dropped like a roach out of the sky. I’ve owned many rifles but this is hands down the most accurate rifle I’ve ever owned. It is a total killing machine. 300 WSM is a great cartridge and it is inherently accurate..
I am a 6'3 225lb Texan. If i walked around saying 300 "Wizz'umm", People would look at me funny. Until today, I have literally only heard "300 WSM". Keep up the great work guys. Thanks for finally adding this one.
I've used the .300WSM nearly exclusively since 2006 with 180 Accubonds. I've taken 3 moose, a bear, deer, a wolf, and a whole bunch of caribou with it and it's never left me wanting.
Just bought my first 300WSM to hunt our Idaho ranch. Years ago I had a 270WSM but traded it away. Good news is I kept all my brass and they are excellent, resized, for 300.
i own one in remington model 700 LSS ,, 300 wsm ,, just insane ,, love it more then any gun i own ,,, that thing drops moose up here in canada like nothing
Always liked the Tikka T3 for the WSM rounds, they're a long-action rifle with single-stack mags. Feed like greased lightning and dead accurate. I recall a few folks having issues with early .270 WSMs but the Tikkas always shot amazing.
I have recently bought a 300 WSM custom Barrel and action I can truly say it is one of my three favorite rifles. It is highly efficient, giving the owner maximum efficiency. It is also poised to handle very long, high bc projectiles for single-feed ELR shooting. In fact this round appears to be born to run ELR matches. It's like 30 caliber platform that is hard to beat. Thank you for showcasing this awesome platform!
300 WSM is a great cartridge especially when chambering is a Tikka T3 Lite 24” barrel. I have owned two rifles chambered in the cartridge; Browning A-Bolt, and now the Tikka T3 Lite both shot excellent no problem feeding magazine to chamber.
In what universe does a 308 Winchester push a 165 grain bullet @ 3000 fps? That GMX loading you're holding is rated at 2750 fps out of a 24 inch barrel. The vast majority of 308 rifles have 22 inch or shorter barrels, so 3000 fps is a pipe dream.
I don’t know what it is but I could have you guys playing 24/7 in my background. There’s just something very calming to me hearing you guys talk about guns and calibers in a way that is loose and creative. Oddly enough I could listen for hours!
Excellent video! Great to see the 300WSM get some light. I have been shooting my xbolt 300WSM with 200gr ELX, 185 g Berger Hydrid and 200g Federal Terminal Ascent with great results
I have owned a remington model seven .300 wsm ,the whitetail edition . Ive only ever shot barnes ttsx 165gr and never had an issue absolutely love the .300wsm .
So good to listen to you guys, thanks. Please consider the modern 6.5x55 as a topic please. Everyone is so hung-up on Creedmors and Grendels... but the old one still gets the job done, especially in AI. Great job gents. Listening all the way from South Africa.
I picked up my first 300wsm almost by accident. I was needing an elk rifle and bought a model 70 in 300wsm not knowing anything about it. Since then I have picked up several others including the browning a bolt and a blr. I hunt texas and alaska and find the 300wsm my go to for all my rifle hunts usinh the 180g nosler loads. I am also a huge fan of the 325wsm which is an 8mm version of the rifle that works well in a 200g configuration. I like the recoil, accuracy, and performance of the 300 and 325 but all the wsm's in general
I'm a real ballistics geek. I love the science behind ballistics and precision shooting in general. That being said, I love to see advances in technology just for their own sake. Maybe not 15 years ago, but now a 300 WSM will do everything a 300 Win Mag can do in a smaller, more efficient package. That just makes me feel good, the idea that we can still make things better.
My family’s been shooting two Winchester model 70 super shadows in 25 WSSM for years, taken a bunch of deer and moose with them. Never had a single feeding issue so far that I can recall. It’s a great little cartridge and that super short action length makes them ideal for growing kids. Glad I have a ton of brass for them.
My absolute favorite rifle! Kimber 8400 in .300wsm. I’ve taken, elk, mule deer and moose with this gun. All with single round stops within 2-3 steps. I started with 150 grain Remington coreloked for the speed but found the 180 grain to be every bit as effective in patterning at the 500 plus yard shots with better knockdown.
So glad to finally hear about the WSM family on the show! I’d like to see one of the longer episodes on 7mm cartridges and history of some of the good 284s
For what its worth I bought a 325 wsm..when they 1st came out & ended up selling it because I prefer my 300 wsm .It can do pretty much what a .325 can do with less recoil and much better ammo selection.
@@mk-xh6jt Nothing against the 300 WSM, it's a good caliber and ammo is easily found. I've sadly been turned off the 300 WSM due to a friend constantly pushing it. For ammo the 300 WSM has more variety but the 325 WSM has had more options come out since it was introduced, especially if you load your own rounds.
Now I don't own, or have I ever shot a 300WM, but my understanding is the 300WSM has less felt recoil just because it is more efficient (less powder needed for equal velocity produced). This was not mentioned as an advantage, and for me is a pretty important one. It doesn't make sense to me, but I have experienced significant recoil from a 30-06 in a Thompson Center Encore, whereas the recoil of my 300WSM Winchester Classic Model 70 is fine. I pretty sure the 300WM recoil is more than the 30-06. Maybe someday I will get to try all three in similar rifles and that will shed some light on this.
I argue that with today’s bullet technology, the need for projectiles heavier than 180 grains for any game in the world is unnecessary. Just nothing on this earth that will stop or not die quickly from a 165-180g TTSX or LRX at any ethical range. 300 wsm is all ya need.
I believe you’re probably right. A 180 Barnes is going put down the largest elk , moose or grizz . Big browns on the coast idk but I’m sure one of those rounds through the lungs or heart of any animal will do the job
7mm Mauser killed many elephants it’s ballistically identically to the 7mm-08 so with out a doubt the 300wsm could most definitely kill any thing big enough to die
Excellent overview! Yes! powder capacity is a minor WSM limitation compared to 300 Win Mag...even for 180 gr monolithic bullets, some published WSM loads are compressed loads compared to the same powder load in a 300 Win Mag. (I am old school up here in interior Alaska and hand load and hunt with a 300 H & H Magnum)
Love my 2 Abolt (II) 300 WSMs. Also love my 2 270 WSMs in Abolt (II). I load Nosler 180 gr Accubond over RL17 but am about to try RL16 and a couple of other bullets.
Brovo, not a Vortex fan but you guys deliver great information. The .30-06 is really worth putting front and center. Availability and price along with performance with all sorts of bullets.
Love these videos! I've always been a little partial to the SAUM cartridges, but mostly because I can get them in the model Remington model Seven, and because they have a slight edge in bench guns...but...thats splitting hairs. Do a talk on the 6.5mm-06 Ackley, please! One of my favs!
I have been going back and forth for a new custom hunting rifle. Currently hunt with 300WM and have 6.5CM and Grendel that can pull backduty. Was going to do a 6.5PRC but I think the 300WSM shooting 205 Bergers is the perfect all around load for anything from antelope to moose/griz.
Mark will tell you that the 300 WSM is just weird/popular enough that stores have to stock it, but no one hardly ever buys it, so it's always available - we'll have to have him tell the story about the time he found some at a gas station on a hunt once and it was the only box of ammo on their shelf. LOL
So a buddy at camp just got a 6.5-300. Really nice. Great cartridge....but not so practical. Good cool factor and a great beanfield gun / antelope gun.
Last time I was in Cabela's, like 2 weeks ago, there was nothing on the rifle ammo shelves except 6mm creed, a few weatherby flavors, some 243, and LOTS of 300 wsm.
good episode. my son-in-law got a great deal on a Browning 7 WSM when he started hunting. Ballistically identical to the 7 RM and he has a roomful of trophy mounts to show for it. However, ammo is hard to find and expensive. Had he to do it over he probably would have gotten the Big 7 like his hunting buddy has, or gone with 300 WM or 300 WSM depending on what rifle was available.
Back when the wsm first came out a local gunsmith and i took the wsm cartridge all the way down to 6mm and all the way up to .458. My favorite is the 35 cal. A 250 gr @ 2850 fps . Its flatter than a 30-06 and hits like a mac truck. Ive built several since and people love them
Pre Win Short Mag days, my eyes leaned towards a .300 or a .330 Dakota. However a "no B.S." writer in the 80s gave the Dakota a dismal ratings concerning the mechanical ability to feed reliably. Some of the first Win mod 70s chambered for the .270WSM were sent back to the factory for feeding problems. So I dropped the idea of owning a short mag and relied on my old 8mmRem Mag. Waiting to see what's in store for necking up the .300PRC, maybe .358. Really enjoy your videos, accurate information. And welcome to handloading rookies, be safe.
I'm a big fan. Run a pretty mild load with 165gr Sierra TGC at 3100fps. I know I could run it hotter and maybe I will if the need arises but the slightly light load is a lot easier on brass and still does everything I could ask for.
Yup. I shoot a Sako 85 300 wsm and it's favorite is a 168 gr TTSX with a lighter dose of IMR 4350. Don't need it any hotter. Also load the 180 gr Accubonds and they shoot well with same powder. The 300 wsm covers all of my hunting needs in Wyoming, but even with reloads a little pricey for prairie dogs-they get the .223 Wylde...
Love the cartridge ten minute talks! I keep finding myself being drawn to 257 Roberts. Any chance of a ten minute talk on that? Pros and cons of an obsolete cartridge? It seems to have a cult following.
The 7 wsm didn't bring any real performance to the table that wasn't already there compared to the 7rem mag. It was also overshadowed by the 270wsm which did offer a decent gain over the only other popular 270 cartridge, the 270 winchester that so many hunters have used or their dad used etc. A lot of shooters, especially hunters, knew that the classic 270 win was a performer on game, had a flat trajectory and was softer recoiling than the 30 caliber cartridges. The 270 wsm offered even more speed, even flatter shooting, whereas a lot of hunters didn't need to add a 7wsm to their safe when they already had a 7 rem mag.
Jon Putnam I have a 7mm WSM and it puts “anything brown down on the ground” QUICKLY!! Mine is also a Browning A-Bolt and I would not hesitate to shoot any animal in the entire world other than the Big-5. And I have a .375H&H for that. The 7mm WSM performs exceptionally well on animals of almost any size (not including large African game). No elk or brown bear or deer (including the large African ungulates) would survive a vitals hit from a 7mm WSM.
@@bobneal790 I'm not saying it isn't a great cartridge that does the job well, I'm just saying that between the 7wsm and 7 rem mag, performance is neck and neck like the 300wsm and 300 win mag. Americans have always had a thing for .30 caliber cartridges since the beginning of self contained cartridges, so 300wsm easily took off comparatively and is my favorite cartridge to date. Americans have also not flocked to 7mm cartridges much other than the 7mm rem mag and to a smaller degree the 7mm-08. There are a lot of great 7mm cartridges out there like the 7x57, 280 rem/ai and 7wsm, but they just haven't caught the hearts and minds as much as they deserve.
The man in the middle with the screaming cougar cap can empty beer cans faster than you can poke holes in them with a .300 WSM! Win or lose we drink more booze! GO COUGS!!!!
Mine has a decent butt pad which comes factory. I am 6' 200lbs it doesn't bother me. Some people will tell you different. One shot, one kill type of rifle. Most any gun has recoil.
Great video! I bought a Browning A- bolt in .300 WSM years ago for a relative. He ended up pissing me off so I kept it.Glad I did. I have shot several trophy Missouri bucks and one Canadian bull moose. It does have some recoil in that light A bolt though but totally manageable.
I'd like to hear about the 7x57. I'm looking for a lighter recoiling, 250 yard and in elk rifle, and am considering the 7x57. I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on it, especially with modern rifles and modern hand loads. Thanks guys.
I was inspired by this to look into 300 wsm and earlier this year I got a T3x lite in 300 wsm with a SiCo scythe ti. Shoots lights out with 200 gr federal terminal ascent. My chrono was reading 2975 at the muzzle average. The 6.5 prc magazine fits the 300 wsm perfectly and allows me to seat bullets much further out as well. Whole rifle weighs 8.5 lbs with suppressor and optic
Vortex Nation Podcast it’s the new kid on the block; how is it/ isn’t it related to 300 wsm and 300 wm. What makes it different? What was the need for another 300? Advantages? Disadvantages?
I’m fairly new to the channel and have been sweeping through some awesome content. Ryan has so much knowledge on different cartridges but I haven’t heard him talk about his favorite all around hunting cartridge and it’s killing me lol. Can y’all do a best hunting caliber video???
I'd be interested in hearing your guys thoughts on the 270 or 270 wsm. Im also curious what the difference is between the 2 cartridges. I've heard people call the 270 "The King "of the cartridges.
.270 Winchester is hard to beat. It seems to sit right at the point of diminishing returns. It shoots as flat as you need until you get to ranges beyond which most people should be shooting animals, It has enough oomph to kill any non dangerous game animal in North America. To exceed its ballistics significantly you either need a varmint round or a punishing magnum. You either give up knockdown power and barrel life with the varmint round or go with a magnum and pay more for ammo that doesn't feed as smoothly and hits your shoulder harder, makes more noise, has less magazine capacity, as well as needing a longer barrel to reach full potential. The worst thing about the .270 is you have no need for another rifle. I'm not saying the .270 Winchester can't be improved upon, just that most of us don't gain much if anything from the improvements and generally give up more in the process. The only downside is the standard 1 in 10 twist may not stabilize the longer, heavier projectiles, especially as nonlead ammo becomes more prevalent. 130 grains still does the job well. I have both in Browning Abolts. The warm with factory loads averages 200-250fps faster.so a little less bullet drop and a little more energy. Love both but tend to favor my wsm due to it's lighter weight and .22 recoil due to muzzle brake. For the wsm ammo is much harder to find and cost more though.
300 WSM was designed around having a shorter barrel length. In fact you don't lose much velocity compared to some other by having a shorter barrel length. This makes the 300 WSM ideal for shooting suppressed with a 20 inch barrel and a 6 inch suppressor. Still maintaining a 500-700 yard capable elk gun (if you can't close the gap), fairly compact and hitting like a truck.
What kind of velocities are you running at 20”. I have a tikka t3 at 24”, at 3100 with Barnes ttsx. Thinking of going shorter to accommodate suppressor length.
The wizzim stuff cracks me up 🤣 I'd love to hear a podcast on how new bullet technology has impacted the sport with these new heavy for caliber bullets becoming available. i.e. 90gr 223, 250gr 30 cal, 550gr 416, etc.
It shoots a 200gr. Eldx at just 75fps slower than the 300prc! And with 13 to 15 grains less powder!! Amazing cartridge. Very accurate also, my tikka shoot under 1/2 moa with many combinations. This case can be loaded with many powders. H4350 is a happy load!!
Yes! My Ruger 300WSM was very fussy with round selection. Tried many and wasn't thrilled. Now, don't get me wrong. It was still tight groups even down to 165gr, but I was looking for perfection on a deer rifle if needed in the Dakotas. I finally bought a box of Hornady Precision 200gr ELD-X out of the blue and Wow wow wow! The round I've always wanted for this gun. Tack driver, hole in a hole. Has to be spin rate and barrel length that this round agrees with. I've fallen back in love with this rifle, and everything else sits.
I built mine on a tikka t3x 7mm action. I kept the long action bolt stop and use the factory mags that are about 3.4” long. Using those mags I’m able to load a 300 wsm at 3.1” and match the win mag with 190’s and 210 or 212’s. I absolutely love the setup and love not having a belt on my case.
My 300wsm is a browning b.o.s.s rifle. It feeds well, not superb but not bad at all, and has no problem. The accuracy is awesome. I always wanted a 308 type rifle but didnt want a 308. Great review guys. I shoot 200gr eldx and have good success for elk. I use my 25-06 for pretty much everything else
Right now, in a time where it's hard to find factory ammo on the shelf. I've been to two Cabela's in the last 7 days, and can only find 300wsm on the shelf. Only other center fire rifle ammo available was some 26 and 28 nosler. Found a single box of 300 win mag. Makes me want to buy a 300wsm rifle, since I can buy ammo for it, as of now.
That’s what I did, got a winchester model 70 in .300 wsm and slowly stocked up on all the ammo I could find in town. Then, me and the probably two other guys that had that cartridge bought the last of the ammo in town and I haven’t seen any since
What it means is that nobody has bought rifles in those calibers. We have problems with hunters, wearing rose colored glasses, who could not handle the recoil of the 300 WinMag. Discovering that the 300wsm has less recoil they go ahead and try to shoot elk and deer at over 500 yds wondering why the animals did not fall over dead. I think if a hunter want to romance a 300 anything and recoil is a issue the 300wsm is not the answer. The 300wsm would make a great round for anything in North America if the ranges were less 400 yds and you had the right bullet. Learn to reload your cases! Something to think about?
More on ackley would be appreciated . I'm particularly interested in 35 ackley improved . One other poster was interested in another of ackley's cartridges , I'll edit in the size . edit* .280
In the sierra app it shows the top velocities between the two with a 200 gr SGK as 2960 ft/sec for the WSM and 2980 ft/sec for the WM. Both loaded to SAAMI length. I'd call that a wash. If you happen to build a WSM or buy one in a model 70 action your max OAL is actually 3.00 or maybe even a smidgen more. Personally I shoot as 30-06 not even loaded hot with the same projectile. I get a velocity of 2675 ft/sec average which still gets me just under 2k ft sec and just under 1800 ft/lbs of energy at 500 yards for comparison.
Had one. Sold it. Did not kill reindeer better than the 6,5x55. For moose and bear this kind of power would be more suitable I guess. Big problem: lack of body taper. This means that the cartrigde will easily fall out of the magazines. Cartrigdes like these are better for range use.
Mark, is that a Washington State Uni Cougar’s hat you are wearing? Now I know why you are such a smart guy. Great video on a very good topic. Appreciate the blend of tech talk with typical cartridge debate. Thank you and well done. Just south of Seattle Gary.
@@MTMILITIAMAN7.62 not going to argue on that point, however, if it wasn’t for the 264 mag there wouldn’t be a 7mm REM mag. All Remington did was neck up a 264 mag to 7mm. The 264 came out in 1958 and the 7 came out in 1962. Do the math. Thanks for the comment. Take care.
@@jonbaniak9097 The belted Holland case is what was being used at the time. The .308 Norma came out in 1959, so the 7mm could just as easily be a .308 Norma necked down to 7mm. But the .308 Norma was itself a commercialization of the .30-338 Win, based off the .338 Win Mag introduced a year previous, so it could be said they all owe their lineage to necked down .338 Win Mag. The Holland case was necked up and down to just about every caliber in the late 50s and early 60s, so to suggest that the 7mm Rem Mag wouldn't exist without the .264 Win Mag is simply false. The 7mm Weatherby uses the same basic case and came out in the mid-40s and the 7x61 Sharpe and Hart was introduced in the early 50s, also on the belted Holland case. The 7mm Rem Mag was designed and introduced by Remington in the M700 to offer affordable level of performance that competed with these established belted 7mm magnums. It had nothing to do with the .264 Win as this .264 was already considered a flop by 1962. It hadn't sold well, didn't live up to expectations, and was already on life support. The 7mm Rem Mag was just the final nail in the coffin.
@@MTMILITIAMAN7.62 that’s a lot of good information sir. If it wasn’t for the fact I’ve been reloading for over 35 years I’d probably buy some of it. The 338 Mag came out the same year as the 264 mag. All three cartridges share the exact same shoulder angle of 25 degrees. If I was going to make a 7mm Mag, would I neck up from 6.5mm to 7mm, or would I neck down 8.6mm to 7mm? I believe it was obvious what the engineers at Remington did. Can I prove it? Nope. Common sense tells me I’m right. I love both cartridges and have 2 rifles in each caliber. I’ve loved the discussion sir. Have a good day!
@@jonbaniak9097 Facts are true regardless of whether you believe them or not. I cut rifling for a high end custom barrel and firearm manufacture. I don't care how long you've been reloading. I actually help make the guns used by professionals from military and law enforcement to PRS and long range hunting. I was an 0311, and have been shooting since I was 4, hunting since I was 8, and reloading since I was 14. So I have plenty of experience as well. The facts that I relayed in my previous post do not need you to validate them. They are true regardless of whether you believe them or not. Have a nice day!
+1 on Brennan’s comment. And many can and should get airtime in several episodes. I’d love to see dedicated series(kind of like your NATO series) on African dangerous game cartridges. African plains game cartridges. American elk cartridges. And each series starting at the beginning of the need for said cartridges. Throughout the 20th century. And into this one. And your opinions on what the future might hold. Some star attractions imo would be 300 H&H, 404 Jeffery, and 9.3x62 just to name a very few. Some of the cartridges you already covered could be covered again but only in the context of being an elk cartridge. It’s history as such. Many, many candidates. And other categories such as sheep and goat, etc. Keep up the great work, guys. Love seeing the notification pop up for Vortex Nation!
Can we get a cartridge discussion on 350legend?? Particular emphasis on the bullet diameter conundrum I've heard about between pistol and rifle bullets...
I bought a 300 WSM back in the Day in an M-70 sometime around 1999. Mine had a crooked chamber, I sent it to Winchester for repair or I should say the U.S Repeating arms. No, it was fine, I sent it to a Gunsmith down in Texas and yeah it's a crooked chamber. So I had him do a rebarrel. I was paring down my rifle collection and it was going to be my main hunting rifle. I never warmed up to it, and it's a safe queen. I have been thinking of re-barreling again but to 270 WSM. It was one of the few times I bought based on buzz. I shoot a 330 Dakota. Does everything that the 340 Weatherby was supposed to do with reasonable pressures. Killed an elk with mine a custom Ruger # 1 a tad short of 500 yards! It's an ok cartridge, the 300 WSM, it just does not fit my hunting needs these days.
I have a custom 300 WSM that shoots 190 Berger bullets with extreme accuracy at 600 plus yards. On different occasions I have made insane shots with this rifle and it totally devastates Elk at those same distances. Two years ago I shot a legal bull in the neck at 535 yards away. can you do a 10MinuteTalk on the 6.5x55 Swede??
I've used the .300WSM nearly exclusively since 2006 with 180 Accubonds. I've taken 3 moose, a bear, deer, a wolf, and a whole bunch of caribou with it and it's never left me wanting.
Amen I have similar results with large game. I love the 300wsm and have shot game at 300yds. I use 180 gr for all game including black bear.
👍🏻👍🏻
same same, in Alaska too.
Just bought my first 300WSM to hunt our Idaho ranch. Years ago I had a 270WSM but traded it away. Good news is I kept all my brass and they are excellent, resized, for 300.
300 wsm is definitely my favorite rifle round for anything under 200 gn, plan on building a 300 PRC soon for the long 200+ gn rounds.
Awesome 😎 300WSM rocks! Glad someone else loves this round. Very under appreciated.
👍🏻
Agreed
Huge 300 WIN Short fan. Shot it in competition in the early 2000's. We got along very well and will always love it.
I just shot a 300 WSM for the first time this week for a upcoming review. I loved it, shot great, very accurate.
i own one in remington model 700 LSS ,, 300 wsm ,, just insane ,, love it more then any gun i own ,,, that thing drops moose up here in canada like nothing
Always liked the Tikka T3 for the WSM rounds, they're a long-action rifle with single-stack mags. Feed like greased lightning and dead accurate. I recall a few folks having issues with early .270 WSMs but the Tikkas always shot amazing.
Just bought a tikka t3x lite. First gun owned ever, went the 30-06. Amazing rifles.
I have recently bought a 300 WSM custom Barrel and action I can truly say it is one of my three favorite rifles. It is highly efficient, giving the owner maximum efficiency. I have a 300 wsm in Browning a bolt Medallion, I love this gun ,it is just an awesome cartridge, a real tack driver.
Would love to see one of these pods in a .257 wby and 270wsm
I’ve got both and am torn between the two
Could you guys cover the .338 Federal?
300 WSM is a great cartridge especially when chambering is a Tikka T3 Lite 24” barrel. I have owned two rifles chambered in the cartridge; Browning A-Bolt, and now the Tikka T3 Lite both shot excellent no problem feeding magazine to chamber.
I have a 7mmwsm and a 300wsm and have been in love with them since they where released, I come from a very strong back ground from reloading
If you had to pick one…
I have a 300 WSM Browning A-Bolt stainless stalker ! This is a tack driver and I love it !!! Amazing Rifle and caliber !!!
Right !,
Yeah 3000 fps from a 165 grain is a bomb really lol.
I just developed a load with 165 grain partitions , rem 700 5r 24" tube, lapua brass , 44.5 varget and 2762fps on magneto speed.
that's what I was thinking.
@@Macmathews1 Best I’ve ever done with a 165 in my 24” Remy is 2840 FPS with Varget, CFE223 and RL 15
I don’t know what it is but I could have you guys playing 24/7 in my background. There’s just something very calming to me hearing you guys talk about guns and calibers in a way that is loose and creative. Oddly enough I could listen for hours!
.300 short mag is what I've always heard it called
Same here, mainly because Winchester was assumed. Just like a lot of people say 308 because the only 308 cartridge is the .308 Win.
I have a Winchester model 70 in the 300 short mag. I love the gun and cal. It shoots great.
Can you do a talk on the .260 Remington please.?

Love the analog with the gearing of different cars. That helps digest the difference between different casings with the same projectile.
7mm will be coming :)
7mm wsm guys missed the boat on that cartridge smh.... Best dam long range hunting caliber you can buy
Recently came across these videos have enjoyed each one I've watched so far. I'd be interested in hearing their thoughts on a 325 WSM at some point.
I would like for you guys to shed a little light on the 270 wsm&. 6.8 Western
Youre right but at long range its not about the killing power its about the BC
Very true 👍🏻👍🏻
Excellent ! I’ve had .300 Win Mag , .300 WSM & .300 Weatherby Mag. Only have the .300 Weatherby now, it simply did everything I needed it to.
Leupold fan for 60 years but I like these young guys putting in new info and help keep the hunting tradition going
I love mine!!
Handier barrel length 24" vs 26 " Shorter action and I honestly think there is less perceived recoil and sold my 300 win
Only downside is cant shoot 200 grain + very well. Would have said ammo is a little bit harder, but nothing is available these days haha
Great cartridge. Dont forget to think about availability and cost. These factors might affect your choice. Thats why I rock the 30-06 and 7mm Rem mag.
Mark will tell you that the 300 WSM is just weird/popular enough that stores have to stock it, but no one hardly ever buys it, so it's always available - we'll have to have him tell the story about the time he found some at a gas station on a hunt once and it was the only box of ammo on their shelf. LOL
Me too.
Interesting. I guess in a shortage all the popular ammo gets low. That strategy could work! Guess I need a 300 WSM. I like that round a lot.

good episode. my son-in-law got a great deal on a Browning 7 WSM when he started hunting.
Good episode? The screaming Cougar in the middle rendered this the best ever!!!!

How about a discussion on the .270 WSM. And one on the 45-70! Thanks
would love to hear about the 7mm wsm and why it didn't really catch on
The 7 wsm didn't bring any real performance to the table that wasn't already there compared to the 7rem mag.

7wsm out of a mountain ti can be a bit rough. Smoked an elk at 525 though.
I've got the same setup with a Browning A-bolt stainless in 300 wsm. It's about a 7 pound rifle and works great.
I also have one. The action is buttery smooth.
Could you all do another on how the 300 prc does or doesn’t tie into these cartridges?

Moderately better performance with shorter barrel life. Whether it’s worth it depends on how much you shoot.

After watching this video for probably the 5th time I’d really like to see you guys do an extended cartridge review on the WSM family!!!!

The wizzim stuff cracks me up 🤣 I'd love to hear a podcast on how new bullet technology has impacted the sport with these new heavy for caliber bullets becoming available. i.e. 90gr 223, 250gr 30 cal, 550gr 416, etc.
That's a great point to bring up - those are very intriguing! Thanks for the suggestion!
Don't forget it held the record for smallest extreme long range group for nearly a decade.
I would like to see an episode about when improving the twist rate breathes new life into an older chambering such as the 270 Winchester
The issue is that you'll eat into your case capacity running the longer bullets in the "older" chamberings. ie 6mmCM vs 243 or 6.5CM vs 260Rem.
6mm ARC Gas Gun , 308 & 300 WSM are my 3 favorites
Right now, in a time where it's hard to find factory ammo on the shelf. I've been to two Cabela's in the last 7 days, and can only find 300wsm on the shelf. Only other center fire rifle ammo available was some 26 and 28 nosler. Found a single box of 300 win mag. Makes me want to buy a 300wsm rifle, since I can buy ammo for it, as of now.
Where can you find a rifle? Aren't those gone too?
Shoosh...dont tell people that🤣
That’s what I did, got a winchester model 70 in .300 wsm and slowly stocked up on all the ammo I could find in town.
My browning x bolt with a 26 inch barrel absolutely smokes 150 grain bullets at 3470 fps. It’s definitely my favorite caliber.
Can you do a 300 win mag video?
More on ackley would be appreciated . I'm particularly interested in 35 ackley improved . One other poster was interested in another of ackley's cartridges , I'll edit in the size .

Ackley stuff is super interesting. It likely will be a topic brought up in one of our upcoming podventures actually!
I would like to suggest the 264 win mag. It will do everything all the new 6.5’s will do as long as you use a barrel with a 8” twist.
And the 7mm Rem Mag will still smoke everything the .264 Win Mag or the newer 6.5s will do, esp if you use a barrel with an 8 twist.

We really do appreciate the feedback! That could be really cool to series them out. Thanks, Robert! :)
Good video. Thanks. It would be super helpful if your website included a rifle optics and binocular selection tool.
We'll definitely pass that feedback along. If you ever need help with a recommendation, don't hesitate to reach out!
Great debate! Can you guys do the 35Whelen & 9.3x62
Can we get a cartridge discussion on 350legend?? Particular emphasis on the bullet diameter conundrum I've heard about between pistol and rifle bullets...
Would live to hear more about the 270 WSM
.280 Ackley improved would be good too!
Or 35 Ackley improved .
the 280 rem and 280 ackley would be a great 10 min talk!
@@texasdeeslinglead2401 big hitting cartridge
Great suggestion.
