Why dont you make a video on how to write a proper lead black character?

WHY IS NORMAN Osborne a African American Man. DEEP sigh. STOP DOING this nobody/ no black person is asking for these piss poor, sloppy second unnecessary race swaps. MAKE NEW ORIGINAL characters with interesting backstories, motivations that shouldn't be hard as now all they've done is cause yet another controversy. In the context of Spiderman you already have black villains for him to face off against just give him Prowler or hell Tombstone for god sake and he's a whole business man/ crime boss (Spectacular made him so mush cooler) I thought this show was supposed to be set in the MCU so a prequel show to Toms Spiderman, (which should have came out ages ago, showing the lack of clear direction and brand synergy) as its somehow not a major missed opportunity. I don't care for this at all I'm tired of seeing peter origins give me a SPECTCAULAR SPIDERMAN continuation in the same vain as X-Men 97. Or you know the Multiverse why not make a 2099 series that would be HYPE AF or a different spider than 616, Miles or Gwen.

I really don't care about some race-swapping because when most of the critical Marvel characters were created, our country was far less diverse. What does strike me as strange, though, both in this cartoon and in the Tom Holland movies is that almost all people in Peter's life are people of color. All of his teachers, principal, counselors, friends, adversaries, every person in authority, etc. Sure, NYC is a very diverse city, but it's so odd to show Peter as one lone white boy living in a world where almost everybody else isn't. Do you have thoughts about this?

I just don't understand why there aren't making moves and tv shows about characters they already have IPs for? Why cant we get a Icon movie. Blue Marvel John stewart sunfire ETC But I do think there is one race swap I think is particularly good, it still my favorite one today that is Lex Luthor from the Justice League. most people don't even know he used to be a redhead, probably because he lost his hair. he was one of my favorite characters from that show played by Clancy Brown.

The one really odd pattern I notice, and many have also noticed, is how a lot of the characters being raceswapped to black, whether it is in movie, TV and game adaptations, or in alternate universes in comics, are gingers/redheads. The Osborns in this show? Ginger to black. Barbara and James Gordon in Caped Crusader, Absolute Batman, Matt Reeves's The Batman, and Lego Batman? Ginger to black. Little Mermaid? Redhead to black. Starfire in that god awful Titans show? You guessed it. Hawkgirl and Hawkman? Same deal. Velma in that also god awful show that somehow got 2 seasons? Same ordeal. Hell even in actual canon comics, in DC, after the New 52 reboot back in the early 2010s (2011 if I'm not mistaken) they raceswapped Wally friggin West. Wally, the Flash a lot of us grew up with because Barry was dead for YEARS and was also the main Flash in the Justice League cartoons. They retconned it all to Wally having been lost in the speedforce and Barry having managed to save him, so now we have Wally, and Wallace (black Wally), which was a bit of a mess, although now it seems that Barry has lost his powers (maybe not forever) and Wally is now THE Flash, with Wallace being Kid Flash (remembered while writing this that the image at the start of the video that has that whole list, point still stands and I'm just adding a few extras). I even recently talked about this with one of my best friends who dyed his hair red/orange for quite a few years now and still has it (and looks awesome with it) and he found it dumb and also concerning about how there's this sort of deletion of redheads from media all of a sudden. I swear to god if they ever end up making a Who Framed Roger Rabbit remake or sudden sequel, or do the same to Kim Possible, and raceswap them, I may just dye my own hair red in protest at that point sheesh

One of the greatest black characters i can think of other than Static Shock is Frozone from The Incredibles. When i saw him on screen i was like “Damn! Hes so cool! I wanna see more of him!” He was Bob’s friend and a Super Hero with ice powers who happened to be black. We didn’t get a cultural backstory. Hes an Original character from the get-go. All he was is “Black man go pew pew with ice powers!” Simple as that.

Me personally, if neither of the Osborn's say the N-word it was a waste.

Remember Cyborg from the OG Teen Titans? That character who had layers of depth? Constantly struggling inside with being mostly a machine, the most tech savvy because he is a machine and is the funniest, most likeable and relatable character out of that group? Yeah I miss characters like that.

Reva would of worked if they made her a feme fatale or made her a sexy feminine looking woman with a sadistic side. She has tiny vibroblades in her dreads she could control like Medusa using the force. She could move like the girl that was shown protecting her and kids in the flashback at the Jedi Temple.

I agree that we don't need every character to be race-swapped and that it's annoying, but you seem to be ignoring important facts about some of the characters you complain about. I don't know why you complain that they don't make original characters and then complain about some ACTUAL original characters. Sam Wilson is not an example of a race-swap. He's an original character, who just has the mantle of someone else. He was close friends with Steve so after he retired, Sam got the shield so he can continue his legacy and stop bad guys as Captain America. It's not impossible for someone else to be Captain America so a close friend and ally of Steve earned it in the Infinity Saga. And it's better this way coz Falcon was significantly less interesting. Same with Miles Morales. He's not race-swapped, he's an original character and has significance to the mantle of Spider-Man and that anyone can be him. He's not a super-special guy like Superman. There is a bunch of other parallel peope with the mantle in the Spider-verse films and the comics (Miguel, Gwen, various characters who have went by 'Spider-Girl' etc) It doesn't get more original that Yasuke lol. He was a real person and he carried the swords of the Samurai, which is usually the role of other samurais. And idk why it's a problem that only the other protag is Japanese. Weird thing to complain about. There is already a wave of racists who complain about it. And finally, actually Storm's and Black Panther(s)'s skin color are actually important to their origin and lore.

Let’s be real, not of this is racism or racist because at the day, this just fictional worlds and fictional characters, don’t get me wrong, race swapping in any way is dumb and lazy under any circumstance, if we stooped so low that calling media/art racist on any basis undermines real life racism which should we stopped at all costs, but again I am against race swapping I think it should never happen, but since this is fictional intellectual properties we’re dealing with here I wouldn’t go as far as to call this real racism since no real people are being racially discriminated

Think of all the potential that wasted big corpo money over the last 8 years could've been used for. They could've easily hired many normal artists to design new awesome black super heroes and ideas but instead spent the whole time sinking franchises. I mean, they already know most of their new adaptions are gonna die quickly anyway by now so why not?

I mean if its a good show or thing then its fine i guess, they may want it to keep it fresh but for me i just think its boring, bland and not creative. If they wanted to do something different with the character they could just go in a absolute Batman or absolute wonder woman route where they have things changed and character traits changed but have the something’s still there, the main things of the character, but a different take. But if they just changed the character in a bad way, not like there a bad character like the plastic man comics where he’s a bad person, but bad in the sense that its just a downgrade or not really the same character. But i would definitely be LIVID if they changed my boy Blade, capital B. Blade would not be blade. he needs to be black or else. He would not be badass. He would not be my favorite hero. Or. I agree with you for the most part, but respectfully in the case of assassins creed shadows Yasuke is infact a real person and a real black samurai, and making him not black would be worse. That goes without saying there is definitely the possibility that despite the historical accuracy, ubisoft will still play the "your racist card" if they face backlash for the game, which would be even WORSE since they would not only be using a race, but also a historical figure to shield themselves from criticism.

Jesu Christo. Mary Jane Watson dated Harry Osbourne a lot in the comics, though in those days, "dating" wasn't as serious. In the Sam Raimi films, she got very serious about him. This is a core dynamic in Peter Parker's life. How can they make Harry gay or borderline gay? You just eliminated a part of the story. Why don't they care?

Ubisoft could've chosen dozens of other time periods and locations if they wanted to be woke. I agree with everything else, and Ubi is pretty scummy, but Yasuke looks cool. AC has never been striving for perfect historical accuracy in the first place.

This is why Boyz N the Hood was a great film. The character furious was a perfect father figure to the characters in the film and that’s why ultimately his son, Trey, lived out of everyone in the group.
