    Wow. I don’t have a cricut machine, so I had no idea what all these tools, vinyl paper and transfer tape do. I bought the glitter roll the other day, just to cover a locker I made out of foam board. This video was very informative. Especially if someone is new to a circuit machine. Thank you 🤗👍🏽👏🏽

    Actually found all the DT vinyl, glitter and card stock worked really well with my Silhouette Curio. Blade set at 2 and all the risers in place and it worked perfectly, no messing around with any other settings was necessary. Possibly because the Curio is a more robust machine and you can lift the mat higher for contact with the blade, I had no problems cutting anything even smaller lettering and the glitter vinyl. Card stock was cut clean. Definitely worth it.

    The glitter for me works better with shapes more so than intricate letters at least for me. I’ve tried it with both brother scan & cut 2 and my silhouette. Good luck

    I'm a very early beginner and wanted to try crafters square for practicing. I had zero luck with the vinyl. Maybe I had to adjust pressure but it did not cut through cleanly. Transfer tape had mixed reviews. I really appreciate your video to see what I should try and what I should skip!

    I have had the same experience with the DT vinyl. I haven’t tried the iron on yet but I do have some. I had problems getting the glitter to cut without getting eaten up an what mat to use it on. A older may or the light grip mat are better for the backing to not get stuck. Also the glitter is better for basic shapes an blocky letters. I definitely had to play around with the settings to figure out what worked best. But once I figured out what setting works best I had no issue cutting any of it even the glitter. The washi setting or even construction paper setting work.

  • @thechickincharge1073

    That is 4 feet per roll, not 2. It is a decent amount! You have to play around with lighter settings because they cut easily. It is worth it to ME because I practiced patience and found the best settings. I agree with you about the transfer tape. I have a huge roll of frisco and love it! I love DT vinyl.

      Thanks for pointing that out, my mistake! But wow that’s even better!! 🤩 Thank you for sharing your experience, that’s awesome to hear. I will need to play around with the vinyl to make stencils. Yess it’s amazing, the Frisco Craft is my favorite!! 🙌🏼

      On this note about transfer tape, I use the clear cabinet liner paper that can be found in the home or glassware isle depending on your stores layout. You get so much that I usually just uses it a few times and throw the pieces away. It should be like 3 foot wide by however many feet long the roll is I cant remember.

      I'm on Washi, new blade, 75. I absolutely love DT vinyl. I struggle w/all transfer tape. I am using purple label scotch brand (stacked sorta) as one sheet of transfer. I save my HTV carrier sheets (gifted to me) as well. I don't like to fight it.

  • @crmuirhead

    I have had decent luck with DT vinyl. I've used the permanent on DT charger plates for "cookies for Santa" plates, on plastic bins, etc. I did seal them with dishwasher safe mod podge but I would have done this with any brand vinyl. I'm not sure if want to use it on items that get a lot of use but it's perfect for seasonal stuff. I've also used the removable for stencils and had good luck. I have not tried htv from there yet.
    I was surprised about your results with the smaller roll on the Joy as mine cut it fine. I agree that it's a waste of money to buy that size; that's why trimmers were invented-- cut that bad boy bigger size to what you need!!
    Thanks for sharing your results.

    • @Dee-nl2jk
      @Dee-nl2jk ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Crysta!l Does the Mod podge leave any residue of the plates cups mugs whatever? How many times have you washed any of these items? Do you feel they the vinyl will stay put? Have you used the vinyl permanent or everyday vinyl on any other items such as shirts, etc? Do you think they will withstand washing and dryer as well? New to crafting Cricut and vinyl, Thanks!

    • @crmuirhead
      @crmuirhead ปีที่แล้ว

      There isn't a residue per se but you can see the brush strokes. It takes SEVERAL coats, drying completely in between. Many, many dish washer cycles for coffee mugs I made for myself and hubby and still looking good. I have not tried DT htv and I'm not sure if trust it. If i go to the trouble of weeding a project for attire I want to have confidence in the product! I use htvront for attire. I think the cheap vinyl is best left for seasonal products that don't get a lot of wear and tear.

    I dont have a cricut but I have a vinyl cutter and not sure how different they are, but I saw the blade holder and it looked similar, there is an adjustment nob to adjust the depth of the blade as you should do a little test by hand first and that will prevent cut throughs

    Haven’t used for a Cricut but I have found the larger rolls pretty great for hand-cutting with scissors or small utility/craft knife, kind of like a thin contact paper. They adhere well but can also be moved once or twice. Our mopping robot now wears a DT vinyl skin to match our favorite Battlebot, and it has held up really well for the past 8 months so far. #teamtantrum

    I just got around to setting up the third party CB09 with 45 degree blade - (the red capped one). Game changer and much MUCH cheaper. It cuts like a dream (even intricately) and it seems actually better than my autoblade! The dollar tree vinyls weed like a dream with this blade. Some tearing in areas I was pulling away, but it is really thin vinyl. I used a blade depth of 1 and just changed the force for glitter and the holographic metallic ones. (So far, for black glossy one, I used force of 15, the holographic one at 10, and the glitter ones, I used force 22) If you use this blade, you’ll need the blue adapter with the cameo 4. I was kind of intimated at first since I've only used the autoblade, but it is very straightforward once you get the idea. I am so happy with results. This blade works with Cricut too btw and you can get on Amazon and Temu that I've seen.

    I actually just purchased a used older style cricut today and the dollar tree vinyls as well. As a 1st timer i have to agree. The transfer paper was very difficult with the glitter vinyl. I had to peel each letter off and place it by hand. Also really had to play around with blade pressure and speed in order to stop my letters from getting smushed while cutting.. but that being said i think its fine for small things. I dont feel it will hold up on cups or glasses after 1 wash at all but on anything else it would be fine

      @@DIYholic my store has neon orange, neon green, neon pink, neon purple; and glitters gold, black, and silver, pink and purple I believe. I used my Maker with more pressure to make the cuts better. weeding is kinda tough like the regular vinyl if you make small images but other than that it's pretty decent. for letters and basic solid designs it's nice and easy to use. Still haven't tested to see how many washes/dries it can take as I made some kids Halloween shirts.

    The glitter type came up off its backing while cutting making it all scrunch up. Also made the cutter cut my mat and the cricut itself. It was actually pretty dramatic while happening. !!Also the glitter vinyl backing got stuck to Mat like it tore away from itself leaving half backing on mat and half on decal. @@queenrae91 The difference between DT vinyl and the name brands sold elsewhere are night and day. I've tried using Washi settings, taking cutting pressure as low as you can possibly get it on tons of materials and I still have had nothing but problems with DT vinyl. Even with a brand new blade the stuff is horrible.
      My advice would be stick with name brand and avoid all the frustration with the cheap stuff. It's cheap for a reason. If you do try it though, don't let it put you off. Just buy a roll of the good stuff and you'll see how easy it can be. Good luck!

    I just tried the dollar tree stuff in my brother scan and cut dx
    Seems to habe cut beautifully on auto setting with the vinyl blade and i cut small text with it on purpose to really put this stuff to the test.
    The backing sheet stuck to my brother standard mat in just one place and i was able to save it with rhe spatula no problem. Mat was brand new figured that would be safer with folks mentioning the stuff not sticking to the mat
    ALL glitter foil is garbage for sticking to transfer tape so i use packing tape and it works like a charm 👌
    I gotta say im impressed so far for a cheap vinyl....
    PS i hate cricket permanent vinyl it dulls my blade and never cuts thru well on the first pass. I am phasing it out and sticking with siser oracal and (i cant believe im saying this) dollar tree vinyl

    Dollar tree vinyl IS NOT good vinyl. It’s very thin and rips easily. The glitter vinyl drys out and doesn’t adhere properly and rips easily. The transfer tape is awful and doesn’t really pick up the vinyl for transferring. If you are using a cricut machine for the first time, then the dollar tree vinyl is okay to practice with. If printing something small, it will rip like crazy.
