I think Brian Last is so underappreciated for what he does, not only does he deal with all of the technical stuff but he's a brilliant cohost in that he recognises Jim is the star of the show and speaks just the right amount to make it feel like a conversation while keeping the spotlight on Jim.
Amen to that he's the best co host out there he's beyond underrated love his other shows too 6:05 superpodcast Kentucky fried wrestling and the studcast he's a million times better than that overrated hack Conrad Thompson

I understand why he is so dismissive about Japanese wrestlers. Most Americans are not weeaboos and don't care about Japanese language/culture/people/whatever. Even Britt Baker has a much better chance of becoming a star than Io Shirai ever will despite the disparity in talent and charisma.

Honestly as a charecter shayna Baszler is everything Ronda rousey should have been from the start. Rousey finally started to become more heelish around wm but shayna takes it to another level.
Finally!! 3 weeks in and things are starting to take shape. AEW had some excellent stuff in their first few weeks and Jericho was by far the MVP from both shows, but, now AEW maybe starting to show its true colours (hopefully not). The novelty gimmicks and spots are starting to get tv time. NXT moved to 2 hours live and got a bit off track with the booking and got shot the first week going against AEW, but, they have settled back in to their stride! Logical booking, some squashes to push some people, 1 or 2 longer entertaining matches, video packages, decent angles, good commentary and long term planning. They'll never blow fans away for 2 hours straight, nor should they, safe and smart build and then the blow offs on Takeovers every few months. The most sensible wrestling show around and has been for a few years
sami smith I understand Marko was a last minute replacement, but, come on.. Jungle Boy should've put up a hell of a babyface fight 2-1 to get over and once Marko was in, he got far too much offense, he should've been squashed. Best Friends going for a hug pop mid match is novelty, Orange Cassidy had a brief appearance last week, Janela has worked AEW Dark which is the first step, Darby and Havoc had a number 1 contenders match, granted I think Darby has something and they did have a wrestling match, but, it's starting to trickle through. These people weren't hired for nothing, they will be used. Also 'barbed wire on a broom' sounds like a match Vince Russo would've invented in 2001, if it was Omega doing it in AEW, fans would crucify it. This was by far AEW's worst week, they always are going to be the good, the bad and the ugly. It might be more exciting than NXT every week and I truly hope they succeed, I'm rooting for them, but, NXT is always going to be a more consistently decent show.
I HATE how Jim is so bias with some people! 1:04:16 He talks about the Riho vs Britt match and instantly blames the horrible match on Riho. It was ALL Brit who was green AF! Yet Jim is saying it was Riho's fault this match was dragged down. Riho actually knows how to wrestle, he clearly hasn't seen any of her matches. It was Brit was horrible this week.
Makes me sad that formidable talents in nxt are ending up going to be wasted on the main roster. Just look at chad gable, world class athlete with olympic level wrestling background and they call him shorty gable. What a disgrace

I do think Cornette is overly negative and some of his thoughts are stuck in the past but nobody else is willing to fairly criticize AEW. All their fans act like they’re perfect in every way and it’s simply not the case. Some of their ideas and wrestlers are terrible
I wouldn't go that far man plenty of people are criticizing AEW's faults. It just the fact that unlike Cornette most of them are rational and of sound mind. It's always the loudest asshole that gets the most attention.
My main issue with AEW is they a pretty much stripped away charisma and personality and only think they need to please the hardcore fans in just having one match after the other
Hunter Thompson’s Ghost the NWA stuff this past week had more of an impact on me than AEW this week. I know more about Ricky Starks in one promo than any of these guys that think all they have to do is be a wrestler
Honestly it was a really funny segment so long as it doesn’t actually count for Cody’s win loss. I could imagine Cody’s in-kayfabe character doing the same thing for a kid. Now the fact the Pockets was involved on any level might be enough to set Jim off!
NWA POWERRR!!! Great stuff really enjoyed it and I grew up after studio wrestling and the territories were over. First watched really at age 9 in 1996. But I loved it cause although it's "old school" wrestling, it's all new to me. Love the stuff good job Jim and everyone else involved, awesome stuff!!!
Just took a look at the NWA youtube shows. I am IMPRESSED! So far, the NWA shows have blown away the AEW AND the recent (last 6 months) of the mighty WWE! I don't include NXT because it's a developmental entity, though they are solid as far as the caliber of shows they're putting on. I'm gonna watch this NWA in the coming weeks. If they keep up the standards these first two shows have set, they could turn into something really good for Pro Wrestling in general. nicely and well done Jim and everyone connected with NWA.

They're building a company. NWA Power is good for what the product they're showing us. I haven't been disappointed with NWA Power yet. It isn't perfect but it is what it is and it does it well.

I just kinda wish Jim would stop soft pedalling it and tell us how he really feels about AEW and modern wrestling in general. For the record, I agree with almost every damn thing he says. I've been a wrestling fan for 60 years... back even before Jim got into it. I loved it, watching matches out of Buffalo N.Y. with Ilio DiPaulo, The Galagher Brothers, The Miller Brothers, Billy 'Red' Lyons, Dick Byers, Yukon Erik, Red Bastein and so many more. Then I lost interest for years and picked up on it again in the mid 90s. When the "Monday Night Wars" began I lost my mind all over again and when Razor and Nash showed up on Nitro, I lost my mind AGAIN! As bad as WCW ended up, those were a golden era for me.

Mysterio isn’t who Stunt should compared to. He’s more like Spike Dudley. And needs to be treated that way. But no, they try to push Stunt as someone who can legitimately take on bigger guys. He needs to be a rag doll. Jurassic Express needs to drop Stunt like a meteor in the Yucatán.
As someone who grew up in Philly going to ECW shows on the regular, It took Spike Dudley, literally YEARS to get over and even then he was teaming with big guys like Balls Mahoney and others to make it work.

I think this week the criticisms of Dynamite feel petty and over the top. It was the best show so far, and Jericho is not the only star on the show ffs. Cornette is really becoming the caricature his enemies say he is.
Jericho did that on Twitter, compared Stunt to Rey. Pissed me off. Hard to take him seriously at this point. Rey has always had an athletic frame, to compare the two is ludicrous. Then Bully Ray brings up Spike Dudley, who was basically the same height as Dean Malenko and NOT Marko Stunt. Just ridiculous...
They are being compared not in terms of their physique or their wrestling abilities, but in terms of how people reacted to the idea of them even being wrestlers. I have no reason to believe that Jim would have reacted to the early 90's Ray any differently to how reacts to Stunt today. Similar to how all of the reasons he rips Joey Janela for could also be applied to pre-WWF Mick Foley. Now Ray proved everybody wrong, we know that. Stunt, for now, was thrown into his first ever televised match on like 1-day notice and got himself over in front the the pissed-off crowd that didn't want him in the ring. I'd say that is a pretty decent start.
I Get the Rey Reference ... to a point. When Rey started, he was about half the size that he is now, but (for that time) could move in ways we were not use to. He used is speed and athletics to make up for the size difference. Marko has even more speed but even less size. This gives him an impact avoidance edge that no one can match... until he gets caught. Ultimately, his career path will likely follow a Steve Lombardi, Jim Powers, Paul Roma, George South, Italian Stallion. Enhancement talent with a name, but very few wins. And yes, I am ignoring Roma's Whoresmen run (put intended), and Ordorff caring him in Pretty Wonderful.

@@dr6770 Riho's match with Nyla Rose stunk. None of Riho's offense looked believable in the slightest. And instead of portraying her as this great underdog with virtually no chance going into the match, AEW was pushing her like she was Rose's equal. It was stupid.
I love both NWA Power and AEW Dynamite. Neither are perfect. AEW does tend to miss the perfect ending to drag on slightly longer to just a good ending. Not always but often enough to be noticeable. But when they put on classics they are only topped by NJPW classics.
RIHO is "Green" and "Cant wrestle"?!?!? She carried Britt Baker through that whole match! Britt was awkward and clunky almost the whole match and Riho had to help her complete the most simple of spots! I dont think I've ever seen such a glaring example of self-imposed bias in my life if Jim Cornette can watch that match and claim Riho was the one who couldn't wrestle!

BEFORE the SCU match they stated that Scorpio was staying in the back out of respect for Daniels and Kaz. Storyline was that SCU decided that Kaz and Daniels were going to represent SCU in the Tag Matches because Daniels and Kaz are the vets. That is why Scorpio was staying backstage. Supposedly they aren't allowing the 3rd member of teams like that to be out at Ringside during the matches
I hate the hyper competitive AEW matches. The way AEW books their wrestlers, every single wrestler on their video game will have 100/100 on every stat.

That's what Stunt defenders don't understand. I think the issue is that some critics call him an 'embarrassment to pro wrestling.' I can think of many other wrestlers that are an embarrassment to the profession that Stunt. He's taken the bumps and put his ass on the line. But, he's not believable. Rey Mysterio was a far better athlete that Stunt and was doing stuff that had never been done before. He was also just an incredible worker with tremendous psychology and understanding the ebb and flow of a match. Stunt has none of that. I'll tip my cap to him for the effort, but I have little interest in watching him and him kicking out of big moves from the Lucha Bros. just diminished them.

When I watch wrestling, I want to believe, that everything is real. I want to believe the story lines and what is happening. I can enjoy goofy spots like the typical Orange Cassidy match. But Stunt is, at least for me, too much to handle.

But he made it work and, as we here so often of Superstars who get OVER, he embraced the character. He IS The Velveteen Dream. Because of this, I just can't outright turn a blind eye to Sonny Kiss in AEW. To me, he can very much become their Dream, but Dream in NXT was able to find that "Goldilocks" zone of walking right up to the shores of naughtiness without falling in. KISS has. If he can pull back and find that "Goldilocks" zone for himself, he can be a Superstar.

The more recent Larry Hamilton wrestled for NWA Southeastern and Continental where he toured as a Face and captured both The U.S. Junior Heavyweight Championship and The Alabama State Championship.B.W.
I refuse to support NXT and wwe but AEW is making a huge mistake. We need more post match promos from Schiavone and hype videos from up and coming talent like wardlow, sadie Gibbs, dark order, allie so they can explain the gimmick and give us a reason why we should care.
Yup. That's a very important element to pro wrestling. Understanding the charecter and their motivations is more important then just going match after match with no promos. Nwa understands this perfectly and it invests me more in the guys on their show.
I've noticed how much better NXT is at that than AEW. They're always showing promos, vignettes, backstage interviews and such throughout the show whereas AEW concentrates on having longer matches.
What's up Corny? I can honestly say that NWA Power is the best show I've seen so far. AEW does too many things that make no sense whatsoever. I don't need to see someone take a piledriver to the floor, sell it for a minute, then hop back into the ring and start beating everyone down like nothing ever happened. I also saw Marco, a guy about my size (5'3 about 120 lbs.) Get in there and fight everyone like he was Superman. The only thing about Power I don't like is I think they're trying too hard to sell the brand. Everybody's shaking hands after the match and things like that. I understand good sportsmanship and all that,but I also like to think these guys really don't like each other. You can also tell the AEW guys haven't been out of wrestling school or whatever for too long. It's too obvious they're working together and sometimes their timing is just awful. Well, my rant is over. I want both shows to do well don't get me wrong. I think what you've said about AEW has been right unfortunately. I hope they improve. Keep up the good work NWA Power! Just focus on giving people good wrestling matches and the rest will take care of itself.
it depends. the NWA Power Main Eventers are quality. like,that Aldis/Storm main event was storytelling at its finest. but i agree that a few of the lower card need more seasoning.
I agree with Jim. Who are the heels and who are the faces in AEW? SCU insults every city they're and but get cheered. MJF is supposed to be the biggest heel in the company besides Jericho but runs out and helps the good guys. Cody comes out looking like a face and is received like one but the actions and facial expressions of his wife are consistent with those of a heel. One week the Young Bucks are faces, the next week they're heels. Jericho is supposed to be a heel and behaves like one but the crowd cheers everything he does, so he cant get any heat. It's just crazy.

Finally!! 3 weeks in and things are starting to take shape. AEW had some excellent stuff in their first few weeks and Jericho was by far the MVP from both shows, but, now AEW maybe starting to show its true colours (hopefully not). The novelty gimmicks and spots are starting to get tv time. NXT moved to 2 hours live and got a bit off track with the booking and got shot the first week going against AEW, but, they have settled back in to their stride! Logical booking, some squashes to push some people, 1 or 2 longer entertaining matches, video packages, decent angles, good commentary and long term planning. They'll never blow fans away for 2 hours straight, nor should they, safe and smart build and then the blow offs on Takeovers every few months. The most sensible wrestling show around and has been for a few years

Jungle Boy should've put up a hell of a babyface fight 2-1 to get over and once Marko was in, he got far too much offense, he should've been squashed. Best Friends going for a hug pop mid match is novelty, Orange Cassidy had a brief appearance last week, Janela has worked AEW Dark which is the first step, Darby and Havoc had a number 1 contenders match, granted I think Darby has something and they did have a wrestling match, but, it's starting to trickle through. These people weren't hired for nothing, they will be used. Also 'barbed wire on a broom' sounds like a match Vince Russo would've invented in 2001, if it was Omega doing it in AEW, fans would crucify it. This was by far AEW's worst week, they always are going to be the good, the bad and the ugly. It might be more exciting than NXT every week and I truly hope they succeed, I'm rooting for them, but, NXT is always going to be a more consistently decent show.

NWA POWERRR!!! Great stuff really enjoyed it and I grew up after studio wrestling and the territories were over. First watched really at age 9 in 1996. But I loved it cause although it's "old school" wrestling, it's all new to me. Love the stuff good job Jim and everyone else involved, awesome stuff!!!
Just took a look at the NWA youtube shows. I am IMPRESSED! So far, the NWA shows have blown away the AEW AND the recent (last 6 months) of the mighty WWE! I don't include NXT because it's a developmental entity, though they are solid as far as the caliber of shows they're putting on. I'm gonna watch this NWA in the coming weeks. If they keep up the standards these first two shows have set, they could turn into something really good for Pro Wrestling in general. nicely and well done Jim and everyone connected with NWA.

I've been a wrestling fan for 60 years... back even before Jim got into it. I loved it, watching matches out of Buffalo N.Y. with Ilio DiPaulo, The Galagher Brothers, The Miller Brothers, Billy 'Red' Lyons, Dick Byers, Yukon Erik, Red Bastein and so many more. Then I lost interest for years and picked up on it again in the mid 90s. When the "Monday Night Wars" began I lost my mind all over again and when Razor and Nash showed up on Nitro, I lost my mind AGAIN! As bad as WCW ended up, those were a golden era for me.

They are being compared not in terms of their physique or their wrestling abilities, but in terms of how people reacted to the idea of them even being wrestlers. I have no reason to believe that Jim would have reacted to the early 90's Ray any differently to how reacts to Stunt today. Similar to how all of the reasons he rips Joey Janela for could also be applied to pre-WWF Mick Foley.
Now Ray proved everybody wrong, we know that. Stunt, for now, was thrown into his first ever televised match on like 1-day notice and got himself over in front the the pissed-off crowd that didn't want him in the ring. I'd say that is a pretty decent start.
I Get the Rey Reference ... to a point. When Rey started, he was about half the size that he is now, but (for that time) could move in ways we were not use to. He used is speed and athletics to make up for the size difference. Marko has even more speed but even less size. This gives him an impact avoidance edge that no one can match... until he gets caught. Ultimately, his career path will likely follow a Steve Lombardi, Jim Powers, Paul Roma, George South, Italian Stallion. Enhancement talent with a name, but very few wins.
And yes, I am ignoring Roma's Whoresmen run (put intended), and Ordorff caring him in Pretty Wonderful.

Jim Cornette truly got this wrong Britt Baker was the bad one in the match. She is sloppy and green and is as bad as he claims riho is.
He is just racist and bias against Japanese women. He ALWAYS seems to trash the Japan women even when they are really good. Of course he missed the 6 way on one of AEW matches, the one with AJA kong in it, which was awesome! He misses the good ones and watches one bad match and trashes the entire Japan women's scene even when it was the American who was the crappy one.

I enjoy old and new style, so I'm glad NWA is doing their thing now.
I love both NWA Power and AEW Dynamite. Neither are perfect. AEW does tend to miss the perfect ending to drag on slightly longer to just a good ending. Not always but often enough to be noticeable. But when they put on classics they are only topped by NJPW classics.
The Undertaker's FIRST ever match, in 1984 was against Bruiser Brody. Brody squashed him lol.

Storyline was that SCU decided that Kaz and Daniels were going to represent SCU in the Tag Matches because Daniels and Kaz are the vets. That is why Scorpio was staying backstage. Supposedly they aren't allowing the 3rd member of teams like that to be out at Ringside during the matches

great show.... The opening with the reading of the personal letter was a very nice touch with all the good the internet can do it seems to create more tension and divide us all instead of connecting all of us 😩 I’m so glad i didn’t get sucked into the AEW hype (There’s are so many better options out there MLW, NWA, Impact, NJPW, Triple AAA,) Its a shame NWA couldn’t get a cable deal i would’ve thought NWA would’ve fit nicely on WGN. In 2019 there’s actually way too much Pro Wrestling out there..... i don’t see this Wednesday Night War lasting very long but, what do i know i know nothing

Jim Cornette hit the nail on the head when he compared AEW to WCW. I can't shake off these NITRO vibes I get watching the presentation style. I also still fear that AEW is moving a little too fast and I wonder how the company will do once they slow down.
Side bar: I think DDP should be used for AEW commissioner.
lol First time im going to have to disagree with Cornette on AEW. Britt Baker looked like absolute shit. Riho was the one carrying that match.
I liked the match but that finish sucked, it looked like Britt was trying to feed a baby brockolly and then got rolled up

Agree. Baker is not very good. But riho is not exactly Charlotte/Sasha/whoever in the ring either but she has natural charisma at least. Baker is just...not a top talent.

As much I enjoy AEW, I don't get my head around Marko Stunt. He can move, he can wrestle, but it overstretches my suspension of disbelieve.
That's what Stunt defenders don't understand. I think the issue is that some critics call him an 'embarrassment to pro wrestling.' I can think of many other wrestlers that are an embarrassment to the profession that Stunt. He's taken the bumps and put his ass on the line. But, he's not believable. Rey Mysterio was a far better athlete that Stunt and was doing stuff that had never been done before. He was also just an incredible worker with tremendous psychology and understanding the ebb and flow of a match.
Stunt has none of that. I'll tip my cap to him for the effort, but I have little interest in watching him and him kicking out of big moves from the Lucha Bros. just diminished them.

@@richiehunt5097 Yes. When he kicked out of that cover, Stunt almost vanished below ... (not sure who did that cover). It simply looked so weird. Like a parody of wrestling.
When I watch wrestling, I want to believe, that everything is real. I want to believe the story lines and what is happening. I can enjoy goofy spots like the typical Orange Cassidy match. But Stunt is, at least for me, too much to handle.

Honestly when Patrick Clark debuted that gimmick fresh off of Tough Enough, I thought he was dead in the water. But he made it work and, as we here so often of Superstars who get OVER, he embraced the character. He IS The Velveteen Dream.
Because of this, I just can't outright turn a blind eye to Sonny Kiss in AEW. To me, he can very much become their Dream, but Dream in NXT was able to find that "Goldilocks" zone of walking right up to the shores of naughtiness without falling in. KISS has. If he can pull back and find that "Goldilocks" zone for himself, he can be a Superstar.

Interesting they mentioned Larry "The Missouri Mauler" Hamilton. He was a great Wrestler though not the only Larry Hamilton in the sport. The more recent Larry Hamilton wrestled for NWA Southeastern and Continental where he toured as a Face and captured both The U.S. Junior Heavyweight Championship and The Alabama State Championship.B.W.
I refuse to support NXT and wwe but AEW is making a huge mistake. We need more post match promos from Schiavone and hype videos from up and coming talent like wardlow, sadie Gibbs, dark order, allie so they can explain the gimmick and give us a reason why we should care.

Yup. That's a very important element to pro wrestling. Understanding the charecter and their motivations is more important then just going match after match with no promos. Nwa understands this perfectly and it invests me more in the guys on their show.
Exactly. Why should we care about so many of these guys? Because they can wrestle? Big whoop so can hundreds of others.
I've noticed how much better NXT is at that than AEW. They're always showing promos, vignettes, backstage interviews and such throughout the show whereas AEW concentrates on having longer matches.

Probably because fans online and nxt fans try to treat Io like she's the biggest babyface in the nxt roster, just like the AEW with Moxley.
What's up Corny? I can honestly say that NWA Power is the best show I've seen so far. AEW does too many things that make no sense whatsoever. I don't need to see someone take a piledriver to the floor, sell it for a minute, then hop back into the ring and start beating everyone down like nothing ever happened. I also saw Marco, a guy about my size (5'3 about 120 lbs.) Get in there and fight everyone like he was Superman. The only thing about Power I don't like is I think they're trying too hard to sell the brand. Everybody's shaking hands after the match and things like that. I understand good sportsmanship and all that,but I also like to think these guys really don't like each other. You can also tell the AEW guys haven't been out of wrestling school or whatever for too long. It's too obvious they're working together and sometimes their timing is just awful. Well, my rant is over. I want both shows to do well don't get me wrong. I think what you've said about AEW has been right unfortunately. I hope they improve. Keep up the good work NWA Power! Just focus on giving people good wrestling matches and the rest will take care of itself.
it depends. the NWA Power Main Eventers are quality. like,that Aldis/Storm main event was storytelling at its finest. but i agree that a few of the lower card need more seasoning.

I agree with Jim. Who are the heels and who are the faces in AEW? SCU insults every city they're and but get cheered. MJF is supposed to be the biggest heel in the company besides Jericho but runs out and helps the good guys. Cody comes out looking like a face and is received like one but the actions and facial expressions of his wife are consistent with those of a heel. One week the Young Bucks are faces, the next week they're heels. Jericho is supposed to be a heel and behaves like one but the crowd cheers everything he does, so he cant get any heat. It's just crazy.
