Just 2 days ago I got diagnosed with ADHD, as you say its like having a pair of glasses on,everything is just so easy to do now. I wished I had found out when I was a lot younger, Im now 58.
I am a recovering addict, have been clean for 5 years now.
I was quite successful in business but then lost everything I worked for due to my addictions, although in the past 5 years have managed to slowly build myself back up again even without medecation but it would have been a hell of a lot easier with it, every day was a battle.
I had to really have a look at what my problems were and push the doctors over the past year to get a propper diagnosis and fight for it as they kept telling me that I was to old to take meds, but I was determined that I was not going to live the rest of my life in a hell hole.
    Its a life changer

Just found your channel and am so happy about that. I got diagnosed with ADD today. For the last few months, I was already 100% sure that I have ADD and after waiting months to get an appointment at the psychiatrist, he finally diagnosed me with ADD and told me he will prescribe me meds. I just have to do an ECG/EKG and a blood test and I'm ready to go.

You're describing my exact experience with Ritalin. It was like I was swimming under water my entire life and then suddenly my mind has surfaced. I gained a mental clarity I never had before. The difference was life changing. I was able to focus, organize my thoughts, and plan linearly and accurately. I remember writing an outline to an essay and being able to start it and finish it in the same sitting. After finishing the essay, I could not help but cry. I always knew I had the ability and intelligence to make my dreams and goals happen but my inattention was so horrid that I couldn't access my innate abilities. But now I could and for the first time, everything made sense. Since then, I have been diagnosed with ADHD and autism. I come from a culture where you keep your head down and suffer in silence as asking for support is viewed as an admission of incompetence and burdensome to others. Before accessing the proper supports, I had attempted to end my own life as I thought there was no hope for someone like me and my struggles were a burden to others. But that couldn't be further from the truth. Life is worth living. Life gets so much better. This is why I advocate so much for mental health support. Had I known that support was out there that could positively alter the quality of my life, I don't think I would have ever attempted. Be kind to yourselves everyone. Your mental health matters. You matter.

I just came across your video and love your encouragement. I was diagnosed officially with ADHD (inattentive type) a year and a half ago. I was started on adderall and on it for about the length of time since diagnosed. Soon as the shortage hit my prescription and I was without my medication for a week , my doctor switched me to ritalin 30 mgs. I feel a lot more focused, a lot more organized, I’ve been keeping up with my kids.
Both my kids are also on Ritalin. One has ADHd(inattentive type), the other has ADHD & ADD combined type and level two autism plus mixed expressive and receptive language delays. Both have been diagnosed within the past three years and in treatment ever since !

I take Ritalin 20mg twice daily, I have to say I prefer it over Adderall, with the Ritalin, I don’t suffer from dry mouth at all; it keeps me focused to where I need to be at and not more, and if I don’t take it on the weekends I feel fine, unlike with Adderall, when I would not take it on the weekends, I had no energy and just wanted to sleep all day, and Adderall made me more depressed if I decided to skip a couple of days of it. I’m glad I’m responding to the Ritalin much better; finally not having severe dry mouth is such a blessing.

@@feliciaalfaro5346 (You don't have to read all of this that I'm typing, I'm just bored at the moment so I'm just going to type what I think about ritalin.)
Personally, I take Ritalin instant release and it only lasts 30-60 minutes (for me).
Which is not long at all whats so ever, but it has changed my life for the better. It makes you calm, you feel "normal", euphoric, you don't procrastinate as much and it makes you feel like everything is okay/more present. The only thing that really sucks about Ritalin is that it leaves your system so fast it's ridiculous and when it's out of your system you have something called a ritalin crash and it makes you have craving/an urge to take another one so you can get back on the "high" it gives you to feel "normal", but you can't take another one right after it's effects wear off because you have to take the medicine as directed (every 4-6 hours) or else if you do take more in a day than you should as directed, the medication won't last you a month and you'll have to cold turkey it and wait for your next refill. (With any medication long term, pharmacys give out a months worth of whatever medication you are prescribed normally and if you take more than direct the medicine will run out and you are forced to cold turkey till the month is over to get the next refill.) (Also Ritalin doesn't get refills, you have to have your doctor or medication management to order a refill for you since it's a schedule 2 substance. You can't ask for a refill yourself, it must be someone higher up.)
It is addictive so you must be careful. I used to have urges to take another after the effects wore off (withdrawal) but now I don't because I just remind myself that i can't let it control me and that if I do I'll run out if I do more than what is prescribed for the day.
Personally I take 30mg 2 times a day (60mg per day, which is the max dose you can take legally.) I need the legal max dose because my brain chemistry, for some reason I feel nothing from 5 or 10 milligrams, only 20 to 30 milligrams are effective. Most people can't handle 20mg, but for me it's perfect, not too much and not too little, just right. (Ofcourse it would be great if they could do 90mg a day because then I could do 30mg in the morning, 30mg for lunch and 30mg for the afternoon but sadly it's only 30mg in the morning and 30mg for lunch.
I've tried ritalin (extended release), concerta, adderall, vyvanse and ritalin (instant release) and out of all those ritalin instant release was the winner. Everyone reacts to ADHD/ADD medicine differently, so ritalin instant release might not be for you but for me it works. An amazing medication. It has positively helped me. I damn near cried when I first tried it because for once in my life I felt "normal". It's sad I didn't get it prescribed sooner but thankfully I am now :)

Hey Eric, just fyi: you didn't get "rediagnosed" with ADHD. Apparently the medical community just decided a number of years ago that there's actually no distinction between ADD and ADHD (there are just different manifestations of ADHD). Found that out recently through my medication management specialist, as I was also originally diagnosed with ADD and then recently rediagnosed with ADHD and was confused about it.

Just stumbled upon your channel and I want to say thank you for sharing this. I was diagnosed with combined ADD/ADHD and Level 1 Autism only last October. I started meds in December. I remember this feeling that you describe. At age 48, I was experiencing focus, executive function, and lack of anxiety in a way I'd never had before. It was AMAZING. And to think that for so long I had fought so hard without the meds. I'm so grateful we have access to this medication.
Also, congratulations on the strength to kick your addictions. For us ADHD types, that is an extra difficult trial. Fucking dopamine. I admire your strength.
As a bit of an aside, I didn't know your diagnosis until I saw this vid (I was watching the others first) and my brain was like, 'dude is ADHD/Autistic', because in my vids I behave the same as I see in yours. Fist bump to a fellow AuDHD making it as best they can.

Found this gentleman’s video as I am trying to find out how I should feel on the Ritalin. Im definitely a bit anxious on it. My concern is it’s making me hyper and a bit manic. Im on overdrive even on 10mg fast release. My mum says she thinks I should stop it coz it’s making me look like a crazy meth head. She’s a bit abusive and doesn’t know a thing about adhd. But her saying that has made me worried it IS making me look like a weirdo on meth. It’s getting me out of bed for the first time in 6 years but I dunno what to think anymore about it. I don’t want to go crazy and not realise it.

Basically it manifested like adhd because he appeared distracted and had many earmarks. But when digging further, his brain isn’t processing what his ears are hearing. He has an extremely high capacity for reading and focus on other non auditory things.

I've just been diagnosed with ADHD. I'm a female who just turned 67.
I've struggled my whole life not knowing what, but knowing something isn't right.
Because I had a childhood of abuse and neglect all the DR.s have been wanting to do is medicate me for severe depression. Those drugs of course never worked. I know it's late in life for me but at last, I get to get some help, the correct help.
Just waiting to get my meds prescribed once the ECG and blood pressure tests are done.
I'm pleased that you were diagnosed early on in life. Thanks for sharing your story.💌

I'm about to start taking Concerta tomorrow or friday, which is similar to Ritalin I think, and I have pretty severe ADD, and some ADHD. I am starting on a pretty high dosage, 54mg+18mg daily, and I'm tremendously excited on how this will change my brain, as I study everyday for hours, and I constantly am reading books.
I'm a bit nervous, but definitely more excited and willing than nervous, I have been in constant battles within my head everyday for the past years, and finally I have decided it's enough, and to start taking medicine. Wish me luck!

I was just prescribed Ritalin LA 20mg. Have yet to take it. But I was on adderall for quite awhile with no effect. Then vyvanse which was the same, no effect. I’m really hoping it just helps. All I want is the thoughts to calm down and to have focus. The Ritalin is the same class of drugs I was on as a kid which one worked too well and the other caused really bad side effects. So I hope the side effects don’t happen. But I just want to find a drug that works for me. The adhd really hurts me in life and I just want help.

I went to work. I felt so focused and a wave of euphoria came over me. I was chatty and socially on point with my co-workers...I also felt aggressive, which was weird. But it was exhilarating and fun to feel like that. Its been a year now that I've been taking 10mg and it kind of helps still, but unfortunately not to that degree. Not sure why its worn off.

You must be aware of "tolerance"? Your body builds up a resistance to it (tho resistance is probably the wrong word) if you can take a couple days off it you may notice your tolerance reduces. Not medical advice, not a doctor, not even that experienced with ritilan, tolerance is just standard with all drugs.
