MUSHROOM FORAGING in the Rainy Woods 🍄 Found Golden Chanterelles!

  • Today we forage wild mushrooms in the woods on a very rainy day! We find edibles like Chanterelles and Oyster mushrooms. There are many other species we come across, including the Varnish Conk and Mycena. It's my first time hunting mushrooms, so it's a magical experience for me and I'm "getting my feet wet" (it's an idiom, but I literally get my feet wet too lol). Hope you enjoy this video and the outdoor scenes of the PNW (Pacific Northwest).
    When foraging mushrooms, please be sure to identify them correctly before eating any. Some mushroom species may be poisonous and fatal, so be careful. Also check the most up-to-date regulations of your foraging location, confirm if you need any permits and read up on best practices. Other than that, have fun spending time in nature 🌲

      It could also be conservationists, as many places are hit hard by people picking too much and too often. It's become a real problem in many countries when people take large buckets with them to the shore, or even multiply buckets and pick a beach clean. It's not even allowed, you can only pick a small amount and only for personal use, but it might be outlawed totally in the future, as more and more habitats collapses happen. Saw a rapport from a beach area that was picked clean in only a few years, the area is totally dead now and it would take 10-20 years before they might get them back, if they ever do as people still go there to pick what little returns year after year. Better to make your own garden really, it's more sustainable and better for the Earth too. Otherwise we might end up like China where most animals and birds are already gone.

    • @anthonywang3292
      @anthonywang3292 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@-JustHuman- China is one of the world's most biodiverse countries LMAO what do you mean most animals and birds are gone 😂

    • @-JustHuman-
      @-JustHuman- 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@anthonywang3292 Just look at thier insane fishing fleet, using trawlers that destroys the sea, and they send it out like a invading fleet of locusts. The wet markets filled with exotic and endangered animals, used in old superstitious medical practices, like eating shark fins for health or tiger paws, backwater things like believing it's good for you in some ways. And just crossing the going between China and more develop countries like Taiwan or Thailand in the are really shows how bad China treats nature. They really seem to have a moral problem, most communist countries get this, where just to survive you will do anything, and you don't care about your neighbour or the next generation at all. Also why they had no problem mixing the poison in the baby food, make the fake vaccines or lie about covid/CCP virus, because it was more important to earn money and not lose face.

    • @anthonywang3292
      @anthonywang3292 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@-JustHuman- Of course you think that China is communist. What else could I expect from someone spewing sinophobic trash? The only reason why you consider some practices "backward" is because they don't fit with western practices. No westernized country is any better than China, no matter how you look at it. And besides, where is the proof of anything that you have said? Mixing poison in baby food? Fake vaccines? Shut up, because you are crossing the thin line between valid criticism and plain racism.

    I grew up with my grandparents in a village surrounded by forests and my grandfather was a forest ranger, so we used to be in the forests a lot. Walking, biking, mushroom hunting.
    As a kid, I really liked parasol mushrooms. My grandma breaded and pan-fried them. They were a bit like cutlets, really tasty. I still remember one time when I was still really young - maybe 5 or 6 - and it was a really warm day, so I had to take off my sweater. Grandma tied the sleeves and used it as a makeshift bag, because we found soooo many mushrooms that our baskets and bags were all full. So, I have really fond memories of mushroom hunting. Now I just want to return to my childhood forest and visit some places like the clay quarry where we roasted potatoes or the little house in the forest (my grandparents always told me Santa Clause lived there...and when I was little we hiked there every year so I could whisper my wishes to him. :D) Later it was a witch's hut. I like living in a big city. It's convenient, but I really miss the forest and nature (that is not a park) sometimes.

    Chanterelle is the best ❤️ It’s really amazing just fried in butter and enjoyed with a grilled cheese sandwich or on or in an omelette. Chanterelle is also really nice in a thick gravy with a lot of heavy cream in it and it does especially well with meats like venison or reindeer. My favorite way of eating chanterelle is probably with very very thin slices of reindeer that has been frozen into a block and then you fry it in a pan and divide the layers and add chanterelle and champignons (or just chanterelle, or just champignons, canned version works just as well) and onion (unless you’re like me who can’t eat regular onion due to IBS reaction to it) and then on with a generous of heavy cream and some seasoning fit for wild meats, garnish with a bit of parsley if you want to and serve with potatoes or mashed potatoes, if you can get “almond potatoes” it’s even better and more authentic to the Swedish north. Almond potatoes got their name from their slightly nutty flavor, though their shape reminds me more of a mix between almonds and cashews in potato size lol
    I really wish I could have gone out in the forest to forage for some chanterelle, it’s been a good mushroom year here in Sweden this year, but alas, forests and especially good mushroom spots isn’t accessible in a wheelchair and I can’t walk very far at all before it affects me for the rest of the day or even longer.

    Chanterelles are my favorite type of foraged mushrooms. I love mincing them and pan frying dry with a little salt until they start to brown and crispy. Then I add a little butter to make them stick together for a spread. So tasty by itself or on a sandwich or anything savory really. It always takes a decent amount though for alot of people. I'm lucky enough to live near a few national and state parks that we can forage in. I just found my first porcinni mushroom today in fact! We are making venison and wild mushroom stew, should be coming up on done now,fingers crossed it turned out okay. :) Thank you for sharing your foraging with us.

    Love this! For someone not from the US, getting to know/see more about other parts of the country and not just the more famous cities is really refreshing. Thanks for bringin us with you! I thought Mommy Oh would be with you.
    I like oyster mushroom sauteed with onion and garlic + oyster sauce + tiny soy sauce + leafy greens like spinach + sesame oil after it's cooked.

    Reminds me of a holiday I once had in Wales, walking and getting lost in a forest. The smell and air was amazing. I wish I could have stayed the night. Lovely to see you do this kind of vlog.

    Omg my favorite blogger with my favorite hobby! Love this video! I wish I could thumbs up it 10x.
    Looks like you might have a lot of honey mushrooms in that area, not 100% sure cause can't see bottom of mushroom, but tops look similar. But they are really good for pierogi filling, cause they are a little like tofu, they just absorb the flavors you cook with it and texture is better when it's chopped in filling, otherwise it can be slimy. But be careful honeys have deadly lookalikes. The tongue like mushroom looks like a variety of toothed fungus, in same family as lions mane) not sure exactly which one though. Lions mane is super tasty has texture of lobster, saute with garlic and old bay and makes good mock lobster roll :).
    I'm so happy you are exploring the world of mushrooms :). I hope you share more videos or your explorations. :) "Learn your Land" is a fellow youtuber you might like as well to learn more on mushies :).
    I only started 5 years ago and it's just endless treasures. Good luck and stay healthy and happy. :)

    It’s really funny that you are so careful with the chanterelle 😂 ! It’s one of the standard mushrooms you get in every supermarket in Germany, when in season. We call em Pfifferling.

    Oh man, if you head down to Mt Rainier, you may be able to find some of the yummy matsutake mushrooms! You can find them on hillsides especially by pine trees (pine mushrooms) Whenever we looked down the hill, you could possibly see these bumps in the soil and there they are! ^^
