Catching DUNGENESS CRABS by Kayak 🦀 CATCH & COOK on Lopez Island

- Today we go crabbing and kayaking! We catch Dungeness crabs and Red Rock crabs on Lopez Island, which is located in Washington State. After a chilly but rewarding paddling session, we cook the crabs. We enjoy them plain and also on a delicious Crab Toast with Aoli. Watch the full video for the outdoor adventure :)

Fond and distant memories from my private yacht crew and captain days. Spent more time in the Gulf islands since I skippered a yacht based in Victoria for a couple of" seasons". And no we never caught as many crabs as Anthony&family.

Growing up in the east bay area the abundance of Dungeness crabs caught by the SF crabbers allowed our family to enjoy big hot bowls of crab cioppino, San Francisco style during the holidays. My mom said she used the same recipe use by DiMaggio's restaurant at Fisherman's wharf. Seeing those crabs you caught reminded me of those days. Thanks of sharing Miss Mina.

I remember crabbing with my parents every summer when I was a kid. We're from the northeast so we did our crabbing in New Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland and we used a rowboat with a small trolling motor. When I turned 8 years old, I would still go with my folks but when we got to the spot, I would go off on my own and use a canoe. We only have the Blue crab over here.

Wow this is the reason why I think of moving to the West Coast all the time. Dungeness crab is by far my most favoritest crab - dare I say seafood (I need time to think about this)? I was at Pacific Fish Center & Restaurant at Redondo Beach by the fisherman's wharf like 10 yrs ago... had Dungeness crab there and I was blown away... I mean I've had it before but never like this and I honestly can't remember where else I've had Dungeness (probably seafood buffets) but that night burned a lasting impression on Dungeness crab and I have since fallen in love with it. We have blue crabs here in NJ - they are sweet and delicious.. perfect for the spicy or soy-based marinated raw crab (게장) but unfortunately, our variety is limited to mostly that... I do long for Dungeness and will visit the West Coast again to feast - perhaps there in Washington (never been, I always wanted to visit Seattle for their wonderful seafood too - seafood is my favorite!!!). Hmm.. I wonder if there's such a thing as marinated raw Dungeness 게장.. now that would be fascinating and I'm so curious to try lol. Glad TH-cam recommended this old/random episode - thoroughly enjoyed it. I go crabbing every year with my dad and we make 게장 and crab stew Korean style (꽃게탕) kekeke.... my mom devours most of the 게장 and leaves us like one half of a torso while she has like 7 LOLLL!

What I would recommend as a really good plate filler is with the crab water what you could do is boil rice in it it's really flavorful and it's just a good way to make a good meal out of everything from the crab🤤😋

I live on the east coast of the US and I get to eat crabs maybe about 5-6 times a year. I also know how to catch, cook, and clean them and I’m not even an adult yet 😂 I’ve never thought about people that are not as familiar with crabs, it’s so cool isn’t it? 😂 I love them

I'm glad you got to go crabbing. I went a few years ago near Anderson Island in the South Sound and really enjoyed it. We didn't get any dungeness crabs we could keep but we were able to keep a few rock crabs.
