Cleaning your washing machine helps get your clothes cleaner, as well as keeps the machine running efficiently. Cleaning your dryer gets you a hotter, more efficient dry and also helps prevent dryer fires (this is a good thing).

My little granddaughter asked me why you keep putting a glass.bowl IN the washer. LOL. I told her you just dumped the baking soda in the machine. She said you need to make that clear. Thanks for the tips.

Hi Melissa! Thanks for the video. I've been watching this whole series to get me motivated to finally finish my Spring Cleaning. :) As for the Laundry Series, I think it would be a great idea to go over what items should be hung to dry versus dried in the dryer. My mum in law always has clothes hanging up in her kitchen on laundry days because she cant dry them. She tried to explain it to me, however it was way over my head!

Hi I really like this episode on cleaning your washer and dryer I wish I would have saw you 12 years ago ! My wife who I love dearly is legally blind and you just don't know what it's like to live with someone like this . She put everything where she wants to find it even if it's in the way . She does a lot for me and I do a lot for her but this is a battle . I have a hearing problem and it makes me feel sick all the time but I'm ok . There has to be some sort of compromise on holding down on all the stuff we own. We live in a old house in West Virginia but it's home for us . I want to thank you for your videos they have helped .

BONUS TIP: After you're done breaking your back cleaning the machines, continue on and wax them with car wax. It's even easier if you have an electric polisher.
Not only with it shine the machines up quite a bit and make them nice and slick, it will repel dust and dirt really well for some time to come, making future cleaning even easier!.

Totally addicted to your cleaning videos and truly each and every tip has made a massive difference to our lives. I stopped using fabric softener and sheets (coating clothes with petroleum byproducts is like dousing then with gasoline) and went ht vinegar route. In weeks of doing this my reactions to back breakouts and redness/rashes completely stopped. The vinegar has literally stripped my cottons of their build up and no longer hold that overly perfumed odour. Thanks. For your new laundry segment I would like to see better ays to deal with shedding dog and cat hair season as daily laundry and top sheets on our beds to protect the quilts and coverlets are required. The machines tend to collect massive hair daily. Thanks so much.

A repair guy for our clothes washer showed us if you remove the panel on the front, there will be a screen that really needs cleaned at least once a year, it's like a lint trap for the washer and will be full of gunk, he said that none of the owners manuals ever mention them, but he highly recommended keeping it cleaned at minimum once a year. :-)

Melissa another fantastic cleaning video. I spent a lot of time cleaning my dryer, I never knew you had to clean the dryer duct. There was so much lint in the dryer duct and the back part of the inner dryer that I got sick from breathing it, it was like a hill of lint. I learned that it's best wear a breathing mask for cases as severe as mine. Though now the dryer is clean, my dryer is working like brand new, I can't believe how fast it gets hot to fry my clothes. I had a question regarding my washer: how many times a year clean my washer?

I'm so glad you did this video. I knew my washer needed to be cleaned but I wasn't sure how to do it. As for the laundry series, it would be helpful if you did a video on sorting clothes. How many ways do clothes need to be sorted? If I have a white shirt with a design on it where does it get sorted? What should really be hung vs. what should be folded and optimizing your drawer space. Should you use fabric softener on jeans and towels?

Always best not to use chemical fabric softener. If you want to use something, dryer balls are better. Chemical fabric softener will create a barrier on fabric that prevents it from absorbing perspiration and water (really bad for towels) and can damage the chemical processing on your jeans (might even change the color).

Great informative video. Is it true that dryer sheets should not be used in high efficiency dryers? Also, I noticed that between washes, when I pull out the tray that holds detergent, bleach, etc., I noticed that water is in the bleach compartment. The bleach has been dispensed but water is in the compartment after I've finished washing a load of clothes. What could be causing this issue? Last question, should I fill these compartments just to the max fill line or below the max fill line?

I actually just had to take my dryer apart because I little women that I am :) diagnosed and fixed my own dryer - and with doing that found a whole crap load of lint in the bottom of the vessel that houses the lint screen! I clean that thing every load so I was amazed at the load of lint I found! Can u say holy house fire!! My hubby was very great full and proud that I saved another appliance from doom. I've also fixed the washer, the fridge and my dishwasher! All I can say is thank god for you tube and the Internet! I think once you do the laundry video you should do one on fantom set in stains - especially on dark clothing

Just watched your excellent video...But you mentioned the dryer sheets can leave a film on the inside of the dryer. What's the best way to clean the INSIDE of your dryer.

Lucky you - yeah - when we were buying the new one a lady at the store told us the average lifespan for new machines is 5-10 years (!?!?!?!). That seems pretty low to me!

What kind of essential oils do you use? What brand and where do you buy them?

    From Brenda lee
Do you also clean out the dryer vent?
When it gets plugged up it will also take a lot longer to dry the clothes or get to a point where the clothes come out damp when they normally would’ve been dried.

Hi Melissa we bought front loader washer and dryer about a year ago and I'm noticing mildew and mold smell. Thanks I'm going to do this tomorrow. Also for the laundry series can you do a "how to remove Bo odor and stains from shirts, my fiancé sweats all day and when I throw them in the washer the smell is still there even if they are new it's the same smell I've also tried baking soda and it doesn't help. Thanks I appreciate it

I watched both this vid and you Affresh vid. My washer has a lint problem, I think. Yes, washer, not dryer. There's no filter on my machine. My clothes come out with a haze over them, making them look worn. In fact, at first I thought maybe the washer was actually roughing them up. I now do all loads on cold, delicate cycle. Maybe it's just time to replace. I was wondering if you've ever received a question along these lines and if you might have any suggestions. I'm doing the baking soda/vinegar clean now and hoping for the best. Although, odor is not the problem.

I've tried everything...i clean professionally 2+ years now...lime away works the best for me with mr clean erasers....you can use a special steel wool that doesn't scratch with natural products but will take a lot for elbow grease and time

So, you put the vinegar and essential oils directly in the tub (even with a front loader)? I saw somewhere to put it in the bleacher dispenser.
