    That’s probably 70km of the best gravel roads in Australia from Gladstone to St Helens, it’s actually well maintained and better and quicker than the other way you would have went.

    Been there last month. Drove from Hobart to Launceston. Stayed in Queenstown, Strahan, Cradle Mountain. Beautiful drive thru the 99 bends. Watched the penguins at night. Loved Launceston Saturday Farmers market. Would love to visit again.

      Such great spots to visit, how long did it take you? We've done a few trips west but haven't gone as far as Queenstown yet, looking forward to going there once we've finished up in Hobart and start heading north again 😊

    Lots of people do swim in blue lake and have for at least 40 years without getting ill .maybe the signs are just parks and wildlife covering themselves if someone does get ill. Not sure how long ago the tunnel had lights but definately didnt have any 4 years ago

    Our tassie summer comes a little later than everywhere else, peak swimming time is Feb and March! Not that I've ever used a wetsuit in any season, but for those not use to it that's the best time :D Great vids!

    The only reason not to swim are sharks and rips. Glad you are enjoying your time here.

    I'm lucky enough to have a piece of art by Eddie Freeman the same person who carved the Ledgerwood trees. If you are still here in january you will be glad to get in the water. Us Taswegians love the water and swim in the ocean, rivers and lakes most summers.. But springtime is definitely not swimming season.

      Incredible, if you don't mind us asking, what's the piece that you have? We ended up looking into him more online and saw some pretty cool ones that he's made. We also found a video of him making a sculpture and were so amazed by how detailed the piece was and how quickly and precisely he could do it! 🤯
      I'm sure the cold water will be a lot more welcome as the days continue to get hotter 😅

      @lydiaandwehan well the story is, I was visiting a friend in a small Midlands town who owned a vintage bric a brac shop, he had some Buffalo horns for sale, so knowing Eddie Freeman lived in the same town, I took the horns around to his place and commissioned him to create a head for the horns, I left it to his discretion. About 3 months later he sent me a picture of a magnificent bulls head. He then asked me if he could display the head at the upcoming Launceston agricultural show, which I of course said yes. After the show he delivered it to my home. I have it mounted on a large Blackwood tree in my yard. If I knew how I would send you a picture.

    Awesome vid! I use to camp a lot around bay of fires / Binalong Bay. You get use to the water but a wetsuit definitely helps! 5 mins out of Binalong Bay there's a cove/beach called Skeleton Bay. Has a great but creepy story behind the name.

    • @lydiaandwehan
      @lydiaandwehan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks so much! Such a great place to camp, I’m sure you had a great time. We were surprised how many campsite spots there are here. And thankfully after the initial shock our bodies got used to the water 🤣
      👀 Ooh, sounds interesting. We can’t seem to see much about the name online… there is one article saying that it’s because there was a whale skeleton washed up on shore, is that right? It would be quite a coincidence cause Misery Beach which we compared Bay of Fires to is actually known for being next to a whaling station and having whale carcasses washed ashore from the station. Creepy but it’s a stunning beach now.

    It's criminal not to swim in Tasmania, year round.

    • @lydiaandwehan
      @lydiaandwehan  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m guessing you must be used to the cold water? 😅 With so many people saying not to swim we were relieved that our bodies got used to the cold after the initial shock. I’m sure we’ll end up swimming again in Tassie, especially with the sunny days we’ve had recently

    What a lovely couple you guys are….really enjoying your adventures…..I live on the island of Jersey….yep, never go into the Atlantic without a wet suit on…way too cold, very like Tassie I guess….wife and I are heading back to down down under in December, got a few trips out to Maria Island and down to the SW wilderness area….love Tassie, weather and all…..our holiday starts in Melbourne, a city we so love, then it’s down to the wild gem called Tassie…..can hardly wait….cheers guys, safe travels

      @@lydiaandwehan hi guys….well it’s really just a very short visit, work sort of gets in the way, so just a week….but in a few years time, we intend to spend our horrible winter months, down under in your summer, so expect to travel around Tassie and Australia mainland over several months, the plan is to pop back every winter time, spend three months touring, then back to our summer,..all the time we can of course…might hire a van, maybe a car and just Air B& B our way around…..we both love Australia so much…the can do attitude for one….it just works for us, like you guys….thanks again for your brilliant adventures x

    I swim here in Tassy without a wetsuit all the time. It all depends what you're used to.

    Haha I certainly didnt swim much in the oceans there definitely too cold. Arctic waters brrrrrrrrr...😅 I swam more at the Basin. But the beaches are gorgeous definitely try it at least. East Coast is gorgeous, wine glass and cole bay area you will love. Don't forget to go south of Hobart. Beautiful area.

    • @lydiaandwehan
      @lydiaandwehan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We were wondering whether you'd say it was too cold to swim in the ocean during your time in Tassie. The Basin was a MUCH nicer temperature so we don't blame you! 😅

      Haha us kids would sun bathe just not swim unless you had a wetty 😂 oh and Hobart water even colder

    Great content in your videos guys FYI the bay of fires was named from captain Cook when he anchored in the bay the aboriginals lit fires all along the beach to give the impression of heaps of people to deter them. We will be back there for the second trip from NZ in April sooo looking forward to it keep having fun it's awesome.

      Thank you! So interesting right, a lot of people automatically assume it's because of the lichen when that lichen is actually in loads of spots around Tassie! It would be good if they had some info boards on the history of the area there, i don't think we saw any at any of the campsites. How exciting, enjoy your trip! 😊

    What was the worst place or places you stayed at? I'm just curious as I live in Launceston

    • @lydiaandwehan
      @lydiaandwehan  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Honestly I'd say we've been really lucky in Tassie so far as we've stayed at all really great spots. Our worst campsite so far would have to be Cooee Point Reserve in Burnie, purely because the campsite was in a busy industrial area so there was construction during the day and then people driving up that way all hours of the night 😅 Apparently they usually get hoons there too during the night but we were lucky and didn't get any during our stay.
      At the end of every state we do a full state summary and talk about our best and worst places/experiences, etc so we'll definitely discuss it all in more detail then. 😊
