    Thanks so much for this video. I generally won’t sit through a video this long but you both have so much great info I didn’t want to miss a minute of it. I have the Gemini system and love it but I don’t use it much. I just bought your solid hit foil plate and want to get back to using all the beautiful supplies I have. I’ve also shared the video with my craft chat ladies. Those of them who foil will really benefit from what you have shared.

    I am going to make a comment here and hope that it reaches those of you having trouble with the solid plate. I watched this video twice and I heard the mention of yupo paper at the end. Well after many trials and errors on foiling the waste I can say success!! I used yupo and then photo paper, both worked great. I learned that my system has a "cooler" spot in the center which adds to the problem of getting good even results. Leaving the foil and the paper on the machine as it heats up helps. Be careful with the photo paper. I wish I would have known that hot foiling is not just about the foil but also the paper. I don't like that I need a specialty paper to get the correct foiling results. So much for all the colored cardstock in my stash.

    • @PinkFreshStudio
      @PinkFreshStudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If there is a part of your foiling system that is not getting hot enough, you may want to contact the manufacturer and see if it is within its warranty. They also may be able to troubleshoot with you, because you certainly should be able to foil on more than just specialty papers.

    I watched the live and it was very good. I really like several things all of what you said and showed was very useful. I have the Gemini foil press and have hardly used it because of frustration with how to do the foiling itself what paper and how to's specifically with the dies as I do not have or always have the money to purchase the foil dies even though I want to. I liked every segment but going through the paper to see which one worked the best was absolutely priceless. Thank you so very much. Also, it would be nice to win the prize.

    Watching re runs! I got my Glimmer machine in November, and saved every negative foil. Print. I was determined to figure a way to get T to work, good thing we were on the same page! I love this new clear plate! I learned some things last week and now love it even more. I die cut a new die in white, then foiled it. It was so awesome. My advice, always experiment, you never know where it will go! I do mixed media so it all works together. If you are creative, it is not hard to do slimline.

    I have the Gemini Jr system and did not have good results with the silver shim and numerous paper shims. It was so frustrating trying to find the best stack. With the solid plate I get amazing results "foiling" the negatives without all the drama and guess work! thanks for addressing the guilt some of us feel about "making mistakes or wasting our foiling supplies". When I first got my solid plate I had some bloopers and felt like I had "wasted" supplies. Then it dawned on me..."This was going into the trash before I learned how to use the solid plate." As crafters we are all searching for perfection in our craft instead of just enjoying the process.

    • @PinkFreshStudio
      @PinkFreshStudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We LOVE to hear this! There is ZERO shame in troubleshooting, and learning how to use a product. We ALL have to do it! And wasting a little bit of foil equates to literal pennies, and you will have learned so much. And thank you for the two really kind comments you have left about our solid hot foil plate recently...we see it, and we appreciate it more than words can express. :)

    Lots of great tips. i liked the cardstock comparison, both the white and color cardstock. Helped me know I was not nuts when I was having so much trouble glimmering. It was the cardstock's fault. 😁

  • @genevievemilot8187
    @genevievemilot8187 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This has been amazing
    For a solution with the negative of the toner deco foil just prepare a cardstock with a thin layer of glue like collage medium and it acts as a toner :)

  • @yvonnekennedy9381
    @yvonnekennedy9381 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Crafters Companion demo waste foiling on the Foilpress by placing the Gemini foil directly onto the pre-heated platform (low heat), shiny side down - no metal or solid plates required at all! Then place your card over the foil, followed by two card stock shims, the Gemini die cutting machine’s magnetic shim, then finally the Foilpress top plate. The whole sandwich is then heated together on the platform for 1 minute before running it through the Gemini. Works a treat! Unlike the Glimmer, the grid on the Foilpress platform does not emboss into the foil after heating and applying pressure - the result is perfect.

  • @annettefertitta6868
    @annettefertitta6868 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes I think the toner bonds with that foil with a certain temperature of heat, probably a temperature and chemical reaction

    I have been waiting for 2 years to buy the machine because I tried it on my sisters and we struggled thank you so much for the 2 video's but can you tell me why Lea is using Glimmer and Heather is using Gemini? I have a Big shot machine so I would like to know which one is better from both of you and why before I invest in one. Totally scared of this but love it.

    • @PinkFreshStudio
      @PinkFreshStudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Both machines are great! We were just trying to show both of the most widely available versions. Lea and Heather both started with the Glimmer, so we tend to use that one more, just because we are more familiar and comfortable with it. If you have a Big Shot, you would need the Glimmer machine to work with it, and you can't go wrong! It's a fabulous machine!

    Just food for thought, I have tons of rolls of Minc foil ,toner use system. If you bring white cardstock to a print facility in your area, and have them run your white cardstock thru a laser printer, copying a black sheet of paper, you will have sheets of toner paper. Take the now toner sheets, cut dies or on your Cricut and then use this new plate to foil. This is just if you have the foil already and you are just getting use out of products you already spent money on. Besides sentiments, just back ground and even frames will give you more bang for your buck. For all methods, if you sandwich in a full sheet of copy paper on your plate, you won’t get foil on your new beautiful solid plate, or your other clear plates.

  • @delinaquilter1418
    @delinaquilter1418 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    At marker 37:52 you show a solid piece of foil taken off the solid plate. There are what appears to be scratches all the way over the plate - not just at the bottom that you said was a bad foiling spot. What is causing the scratches and how do we prevent it? I seem to be getting them frequently on my plate. Thank you.

    • @PinkFreshStudio
      @PinkFreshStudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Delina! I realized at that mark that my machine had started cooling down during Heather's segment. So it wasn't as hot as I thought it was. I wish I had noticed it being splotchy near the top, because I would have just popped it back on to my machine and done the process over. Hope that helps!

  • @TheKaydie
    @TheKaydie 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    You say the solid plate needs more heat and pressure. To get the plate hotter wouldn't it be better if you put the plate down and put the plates on top while heating up? It just seems to make sense to cover the plate to retain more heat. Great video, sure hope you continue more videos on hot foiling.

    • @PinkFreshStudio
      @PinkFreshStudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can do that - and I know some people do? I have been unsure if it would be too much heat for my plastic plates is the only reason I haven't tried that more?

    How do you get foil off the plate

    • @PinkFreshStudio
      @PinkFreshStudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      100% acetone. Make sure it doesn't have any conditioners or fragrance. We like to give it a bath after using the acetone, because the smell can be a bit pungent. :)

    what is toner sheets?

    • @huginanenvelope
      @huginanenvelope 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Black toner is what a copy machine uses (not ink jet) to make the image appear. GinaK sells solid toner sheets and deco foil is not a heat transfer method that uses toner or there is a transfer gel that works with non heat foil.
