My father was a soldier because my grandpa was too old to join. My father was just a teen when he joined. He was a POW and was shot 2x and still has remanent of bullets inside his muscle tissues. It prevents him from having full mobility of his arm and leg. Watching these documentaries angers me that USA thought it was ok to use Hmong children to fight their war but refused to let their own sons 18 and younger be recruited. Thus losing so many Hmong children to this war. At the end USA didn’t even acknowledge how the Hmong people helped saved their grown American soldiers’ lives. Thank you for producing this. I hope this gets circulated so Americans understand why we are here as refugees…. It’s because we didn’t have a choice…either death or America and so our parents chose the latter.
My father served at the age of 14 ... later on he served again as the translator for Asia Times magazine story in 2003 the forgotten freedom fighters in laos... always a soldier n hero to our hmong folks fighting for freeddom.
@AcrossTheMountains i would love that he could share his story but he passed this year ... n reason I'm sharing bc he was a very private person n may not have wanted to share his stories .... even with his mission he did in 2003 for asia time magazine he was quiet about it.
My dad was 12 year old when he join in 1970 In 1975 my dad was 17 year old he married my mom he became chao fa after fighting in the jungle until 1979 my dad escape to Thailand

We’re working on another story about Hmong child soldiers. I would love to speak to your dad about his service.
