My two cents is that a lot of Hmong men are pampered in the home growing up due to the patriarchy that exists in Hmong culture. This becomes a disservice to Hmong men by their parents and in turn, Hmong men foster a lackluster for personal growth and development due to their male privilege. Because Hmong women are historically at a disadvantage in comparison to men, Hmong women are driven and empowered by their struggles and embody a stronger motivation to succeed. None of this is anyone's fault; it is just how we have all been brought up all of these generations but now it is up to us to change that narrative for ourselves and for our people.

Upon the passing of my grandmother, my family incurred substantial financial obligations for an elaborate funeral. A year later, we faced another expensive funeral for my father. The following year, my step-grandmother passed away, necessitating yet another grand funeral. The year after, my grandfather succumbed, and we were compelled to organize yet another funeral. During these challenging times, my brothers and I were forced to take out loans to cover the costs of these extravagant Hmong funerals. This experience served as a stark revelation of the excessive expense associated with these ceremonies. The financial burden was overwhelming, and the social pressure within Hmong communities to participate in these elaborate events is, in my opinion, one of the most detrimental traits of our culture. It is, in essence, a waste of resources and should be eliminated. To ensure the continuation of our culture, we must implement changes to our funeral practices. Pressuring relatives to contribute financially when they are unable to do so is counterproductive, especially for families that are already struggling to cope with the emotional toll of these events. By the way, that was an excellent video. We need more of these videos uploaded to TH-cam.

Niam Tais Ntsuab = in the West it is the Bride's Maid as explained her sole duty is to supervise and keep watch over the bride to prevent any unexpected questionable issues that would offset the ceremony. Sib Yeem = marital in-laws' designation in the West there are not specific titles like Dab Laug Yawm Yij Niam Tais Yawm Txiv etc which specifically identifies the relationship between the couple's families and their members

This is what happens to true spiritualist in the Caribbean. Some people get sick and it’s because they’re spirit guides want them to work and utilize their gifts to heal/help people. Other times people are meant to pass spirits and this happens because they’re passing different energies through their body like a conductor without realizing it and it creates energetic reactions that their body isn’t use to and so they think they’re sick or had an injury.

Hmong funeral is getting so ridiculous. Everyone wants to do one up the other so the cost keeps getting higher. You need to stand up for yourself or you'll be in debt by yourself. Me and husband are in our early 50's and we have life insurance so our kids don't need to worry about the money. We want a nice clean funeral home which service should only last about 4-6 hours at most. Food should be cater only so our kids don't need to stress about cooking since they are already grieving. There should be no alcohol or gambling going on. The people invited should be close friends and relatives who cares about us when we are still alive only. We don't need a house full of people who never cared about us to attend. No need for casket or burial site because we want our ashes to be scatter at a beautiful site so our soul could travel all over the world and be free. Leaving our kids debt free is what makes us happy as a parent. So, make sure when you're still alive buy life insurance for you or save funeral money for yourself. Don't make your children suffer, embarrassed and or worried.

One bottle of Heineken is 137 calories. To burn off 100 calories, you need to run or walk a mile. You got to a party and you drink 4 bottle. That's 548 calories. You also eat, let's just say you ate 1 cup of rice, that's another 200 calories. Your calorie intake for the night is 748 calories. Maybe you dance a lot that night and burned 200 calories. Are you going to run 5 miles after that party? Probably not. That turns into fat. Next weekend, you are at another party, except you're a better drinker now, so you drink 10 bottles. Congrats, that 1000 calories. You're thinking you might go burn that off by running 10 miles but you decide to go grab midnight pho instead. 10 years later, you have diabetes and you wonder what happen. For every drink, that's 1 mile you lose from your life.

Another thing that is really stressful and frustrating is when your family is not really involved in your clan events. Your clan will not want to help you and will give you lectures and demand everything to their likings and if you dont do everything as they say they will not help. In terms of demand, they will demand many things very expensive and make everything super big and nice so the clan leaders will have face when people come to the funeral.

    • @xeelee3932

It sounds incredibly challenging to navigate a situation where family involvement in clan events is lacking, and expectations are so high. Managing such demands, especially when pressured to meet expensive and elaborate standards, must be overwhelming. It's important to communicate openly with family members about what is feasible and to set boundaries where necessary. Seeking support from those who understand or have experienced similar situations might also be beneficial. Remember, it's okay to prioritize your own well-being in these difficult times; yes I said it "difficult times"

Completely inaccurate. Literally all of the Hmong women I know who graduated college all went to school on their own, single, and unsupported by a man. I know this is not true for all Hmong women but the majority of Hmong women bust their butts without a man in sight is my point (including myself). I think what you said discredits Hmong women for their hard work and sacrifice and is an entirely unfair statement.

Billy, I'm been a shaman for almost 20 years, but I never shake. I know life as a shaman is not an easy road to walk. Especially for those who don't follow the traditional ways of being what the elders always do from one generation to another generation. People may say things to us just because it go their way, or disrespect us for doing things not your average way of ritual. They have not walked in our shoe or taken the path that were meant for us or given to us. Out of all my half siblings, I'm the only one who is a shaman.
