      Alessandro Cutolo ( Italian historian ) :
" Gjon ( father of Skanderbeg ) married Princess Vojsava, the daughter of another excellent Albanian🇦🇱 leader, the Lord of Polog " .
Source : in is work "Skanderbeg" , p.20, published in Milan (Italy) in 1940.
His mother ( Skanderbeg )came from the Muzaka family (Albanian) and not from the Brankovic family ...
Father was Gjon Kastrioti, son of Pal Kastrioti. Mother was Voisava from the Muzaka-Family (as stated in the memoires of Gjon Muzaka written sometime before 1510)
Documents from that time only state that she was an albanian.
There are no serbian documents that state she was serbian. In his memoires Gjon Muzaka (before 1510) wrote that she is a muzaka.
We only have two sources from that era that give us a hint of her origin. One is geographically and the other is ethnically .
      Geographic source:
barleti wrote that it was from polog. Member of a noble house and tribal leader.
      Why tribal and not Serbian?
First of all, the triballi were an ancient Thraco-Illyrian ( Albanian ) tribe.
The same name was again used in the Middle Ages / Byzantine era for the inhabitants of the ancient tribal area.
All the people who lived in this area were called triballi (Albanians, Bulgarians and Serbs).
(And let's not forget that the Tribalians were Slavised for the majority ...
But remained Thraco-Illyrian/Albanian in their blood ...)
Today, the majority of Albanians in Macedonia live in the Polog region (the eastern part of Macedonia).
      Exemple :
Appianus Alexandrinus (is a Greek historien of the Roman period) who qualified the Triballians of "Illyrian origin".
      Source : "historia Romana".
Stephanus of Byzantium ( Great lexicographer of Constantinople, lived in the 6 th century), was written in the year 528-545, declares that the "Triballians are Illyrian.
Source : From Urbibus and Populis.
Other authors such as Strabo, Pliny, Ptolemy and Dion Cassius, state that the Triballians are of Thraco-Illyrian origin ( Pelasgians/Albanian )
      Ethnical source:
Gjon Muzaka wrote in his memoires that she was a muzaka.
I think with the latter source we should conclude this whole discussion.
As it is a very close source - chronological and physical. The person in this case Gjon Muzaka knew Voisava personally and he fought besides Skanderbeg and skanderbegs son.
So he wouldnt dare to write something he would later regret right ? He wrote those memoires sometime before 1510 so basically before the book of barleti was printed.

      @@not-much-but-enoughThe historians is Adrian Klosi
Adrian Klosi (like Olsi Jazexhi) is an anti-Albanian who has been called a traitor of the nation by many Albanians because he told anything for profit.
But the most important is that is the so-called "historians" are totally recognized as unreliable!
      Just look at their reputations!
But Ardian Klosi will feel guilty about his lies.
Adrian Klosi (translator of Olivier Schmitt's book) and Olsi were inspired by Olivier Schmitt's book (a totally false book).
You give me historians and writers who are not qualified for their reliability (ask about these characters)
Example : The book of Olivier Schmitt (book completely admitted as false, by the recognized historians!)
By the way Olivier Schmitt declared HIMself later that his book was full of mistakes (in fact untrue), he declared that skanderbeg was Albanian on both sides (father, MOTHER) etc...
Martin barleti never said that skanderbeg was a Serb!
Give me the source where Martin Barleti said that Skanderbeg was Serbian!
I want the source in the official book of Martin Barleti and not in the book of Olivier Schmitt because it is Olivier Schmitt who invented this quote!
SOURCES !!!! = Vizion Plus TH-cam channel. "Skënderbeu" tërhiqet Schmitt - Vizion Plus - News - Lajme. Statement by Schmmit: 0/27 - 1/03
Olivier Schmitt wanted to make a buzz by declaring that the mother of Skanderbeg (Albanian hero) was Serbian, knowing perfectly well the tense relationship between Albanians and Serbs...
It worked, the Serbs bought in mass his book full of lies...
And when he filled his pockets well, he declared later that his book is false ...
So if Olivier Schmitt told anything in his book (and later assumed it), then Adrian Klosi also tell anything because they were inspired by Olivier Schmitt's book...
      It's mathematical.
The Serbs were inspired by Olivier Schmitt's book full of lies (still today)...

Vlad was traumatized by his time there, but Skanderbeg was the oldest among the hostages so he was something of an older brother figure to those princes and noblemen from all around the Balkans.

@@greatpower8147 First of all I open a parenthesis about the name of Albania or Albanians quoted by Strabo (around 58-21/25) in the 1st century BC and Claudius Ptolemy (around 100 - 170 AD) in the 2nd century AD.
It derives from the name of an Illyrian tribe, the Albanoi, which was located around the city of Albanopolis (now Zgërdhesh located in the region of Krujë).
Moreover, even today, a region of Albania, from the north of Tirana (between the rivers Mat and Erzen), is called Albëni (gheg dialect) or Arbëri (tosk dialect).
But this name Albanoi with its various variants (Arbanites, Arvanites, Arvanitis, Arvanos, Arban, Arbani, Arbanon, Arnavuts, Arnauts, Arbëri, Arbër, Arbëni, Arbën, Albën, Albanois, or Albanians) really began to spread when the Albanian territories became a field of hostility and a buffer zone between Byzantines and the new Slavic invaders (Serbs, Croats etc.. ...) towards the beginning of the seventh century AD.
Several writers of the eleventh century, including Michel Attaliate and Jean Skyltzes, have recounted this kind of confrontation and widely spoken of these Albanian mountain tribes.
It is the Angevin chancelleries (Charles I of Anjou, brother of St Louis, proclaimed himself king of Albania in 1272) which, in the 13th century, conveyed the name of Albanian or Albanians, which spread rapidly, like wildfire, throughout Europe.
It should be noted that the Albanians never use this name (Albanian) to designate their own ethnic group: they call themselves Shqiptar, that is to say son or child of the eagle.
Source : Albanais: histoire du Moyen Age au XXe s, P.54, Mathieu AREF (Histoire et langue) ou l'incroyable Odyssée d'un peuple préhellénique.

    • @Universal..
      @Universal.. 3 ปีที่แล้ว +33

@@greatpower8147 Origin of the name "Shqiptar" =.
More concise on the issue, the only Nobel Prize in history 🎓 is none other than Theodor Mommsen 🥇 author of the cycle "Corpus of the inscriptions of antiquity" who says that: - "the brave Epirotes, the Albanians 🇦🇱 of antiquity supported with traditional loyalty the young and brave Pyrrhus or "the Eagle" as they called him" .
Let us point out in this regard that the Albanians call themselves "Shqiptar", i.e. "sons or children of the Eagle".
The soldiers of Pyrrhus (3rd century BC / Epirote King), called their King "the Eagle" and that the latter gave them back one day that they were his "children", so the Albanians are the children of the Eagle...
      "Shqiptar = child of the Eagle .... " .
(Pyrrhus was the cousin of Alexander the Great, of the Molossian tribe and himself an ambitious conqueror, Pyrrhus is one of the most formidable opponents of the early days of ancient Rome).
Let's not forget that nes Epirotes were an Illyrian tribe (🇦🇱) and not Greeks!
There is also another interpretation of this ethnonym: the Eagle was one of the symbols of Zeus, Pelasgian god (🇦🇱) by excellence (source: cf Homer Iliad XVI,234).
The Albanians would thus be the "sons of Zeus" thus "sons of the Eagle".
Besides, these last ones (Albanians), whatever their religion, still call their God Zot (Zeus = Zojz = Zot), thus recalling the divine name of Zeus.
On the other hand the word Shqip, before becoming an etnhonym (Shqiptar), has always designated the "Albanian language" (language shqip = clear language).
Precision: Zeus was not a Greek god! (propaganda which it is spread)...
Zeus was a Pelasgian god (🇦🇱)
Example : Achilles : " Zeus, sovereign lord, O prince of Dodona, O you Pelasgic Zeus (🇦🇱), distant god who rules over Dodona, in this rough country of Selles... "
      Source: Homer, Iliad, XVI,233/234.
Achilles did not say: Zeus the Greek, Zeus the Hellene or Zeus the Mycenaean...
Then why in the school books, one qualifies Zeus of Greek?
(just with this quotation, one realizes that modern historiography is not honest)
Karl O.Müller: The more intelligence will enter the history of Greece, the more attention will be paid to the Pelasgic element sacrificed until now.
      Source : (Prolegomena-1825)
      Epirus =
Historically, tribes like the Molossians or others that made up Epirus like the Kaons, Thesprotians, Paraue, Antintans and others, are historically linked to the Illyrian (🇦🇱) culture or part of it.
As Thucydides tells us about the events of the Peloponnesian War, which involved both actually Illyrians and Illyria itself, these tribes were commonly considered barbarian (non-Greek) tribes.
Thucydides: - "Among the barbarians there were about 1,000 Kaons who ruled without a king. In addition to the Kaons, the Thesprotians also participated and were also governed without a king. There were also the MOLOSSIANS, the Atintants and the Paraues.
Source : ( HISTORY OF THE WAR OF THE PELOPONNESE )
All these tribes, mentioned by the historian of Athenian origin Thucydides for their participation in the famous war of Peloponnese in the 5th century BC, are considered as barbarians, thus not Greek!
      Source : ( Thucydides II, 80- IV, 126 )
The Kaons, the Thesprotians of Chamerie, the Arintans and the Parauets constitute the backbone of what was called Epirus.
Among them appear of course the Molossians where are the roots of the family of the mother of Alexander the Great!
And Thucydides is not the only source which defines the Epirotes like non-Greeks.
      There are many others!
According to the encyclopedia Basic Antiquity, composed of 86 volumes... Pauly Wissowa the real "Encyclopedia Alterumswissenschaft" says that the Epirotes are of Illyrian origin 🇦🇱 and have strong ties to the population of southern Italy!
Whether or not the Epirotes are Illyrians is a discussion that, from an archaeological point of view, is resolved.
The Epirotes and the Illyrians have the same culture, if we consider the Iron Age, the use of tombs, the fortifications with several rows of walls, their material culture, the shape of the pots or the ornaments which are identical to those of Korça (present Albania) and the religion.
Not only ancient authors such as Thucydides, Strabo and others have called the Epirotic tribes barbarians (non-Greek), but later serious publications based on documents and archaeological findings point in the same direction.
The Molosses were one of the Illyrian tribes of Epirus from which came the mother of Alexander the Great, Olympias, daughter of the king and sister of Alexander the Great.
The Molosses were one of the Illyrian tribes of Epirus from where came the mother of Alexander the Great, Olympias, daughter of the king, and the sister of another well known Illyrian prince, Alexander the Molossus.
Moreover the Greek armed forces committed an atrocious genocide on the Albanian civil population of Epirus (Çameria)!

Letter from Skanderbeg to the Prince of Taranto:
ÒGiorgio, gentleman of Albania, to Giovanni Antonio, Prince of Taranto, greeting.
Having made a truce with the enemy of my religion I have not wanted that my friend remain (fraudato) of my aid. (Spesse?) times, Alfonso, his father, invited my help while I waged war against the Turks. Therefore I would be very ungrateful if I had not resisted (lÕistesso?) service to his son. I remember what your king did because now (non deve vedere succedergli? ) this who is his son? You adored his father, and why now do you try to throw out his son? Where did this power come from? Who has the power to set up the King of Sicily, you or the Roman Pontiff?
I came to aid Ferrante, son of the king and seat of the Apostolica. I came opposing your unfaithfulness and innumerable great betrayals in this kingdom. (NeÕ?) will you ever be unpunished for your perjury. This is the reason for my war against you. I merit this no less than I merited making war against the Turks, nor are you less Turk than them. (ImperoccheÕ vi sono alcuni?) that guide you in a straight line not to be of some sect. You my opponents the French and the names of those people, and those for the religion wage grand war.
I do not want to dispute ancient matters with you, matters that perhaps were much less than what was told about them. Certainly in our times the Aragonese armadas have often coursed the Aegean Sea, have plundered the Turkish coasts, have (riportata?) the prey of the enemies; and even today the Aragonese armies defend Troja from the jaws of the enemy. Why do I remember the old things and leave the new parts? If they change the family costumes and the plowmen of the kingdom, and the kings of the plowmen return? (NeÕ troverai nobilitaÕ piuÕ antica della virtuÕ.)
Nor can I deny that you are not with the obnoxious French nation, (imperoccheÕ) you being mainly in aid of King Alfonso, you hunted the French of this kingdom. I do not know now what new virtue shines in this. Perhaps it is some new star that you have now seen among the French?
Moreover, you scorned our people, and compared the Albanese to sheep, and according to your custom think of us with insults. Nor have you shown yourself to have any knowledge of my race. My elders were from Epirus, where this Pirro came from, whose force could scarcely support the Romans. This Pirro, who Taranto and many other places of Italy held back with armies.
I do not have to speak for the Epiroti. They are very much stronger men than your Tarantini, a species of wet men who are born only to fish. If you want to say that Albania is part of Macedonia I would concede that a lot more of our ancestors were nobles who went as far as India under Alexander the Great and defeated all those peoples with incredible difficulty. From those men come these who you called sheep. But the nature of things is not changed. Why do your men run away in the faces of sheep?
In the past the Albanese have (fatto?) experience if the Pugilese were armed; (neÕ) I would again find some who would have been able to aspired to my nature. I have well noted from the back how many of your soldiers are well armed but have never been able to see their helmets or (tanpoco?) the face except those that have become prisoners. (NeÕ?) I seek your house (Bastandomi? ) my own. Besides, it is well known that you often would have shot your neighbors for their possessions, as now you would force out the king of your house and your kingdom.
(Che se?) If I fall in the difficult task I have embarked on I will be buried as (mi vai?) wishing in your letter, will bring back my soul as a reward from the Chancellor of the universe, of God. Not only will I have perfected my intention, but also I will have planned and attempted some distinguished deed.

"...Moreover, you scorned our people, claiming the Albanians as nothing more than sheep, and according to your customs think of us with only insults. Nor have you shown yourself to have any knowledge of my race. Our elders were Epirotes from whence Pyrrhus himself came forth, the might of whom the Romans could barely withstand. And since you proclaim Albania a part of Macedonia, then you grant also our elders as nobles who went as far as India under Alexander the Great, defeating all the people that came before them with great ease. All of his siblings had Slavic-Serbian names and his mother was Vojsava from Brankovic dynasty. What did Albanians 🇦🇱 have before the Ottoman invasion?
    1. Albanians had a University in 1380 in Durrës. To give you an idea: Germany opened its first university, 6 years after Durrës (Heidelberg University).
    2. Albanians had 6 fully developed cities as much as Florence, Venice, Marseille or Paris. (Durrës, Shkodra, Drishti, Lezha, Berat and Preveza).
    3. Albanians had the aristocratic class with 8 noble families (Balshaj, Topiaj, Muzakaj, Kastrioti, Arianiti, Zebenishta, Spataj and Dukagjini) connected by marriage even with the Habsburgs and the Bourbons.
    4. Albanians had the humanist philosophers, who with their genius ideas, were advisers to the imperial families in Hungary, Italy and Austria (Gjon Gazhuli, Pal Ungjëlli, Leonik Tomeo and Gjon Durrsaku).
    5. Albanian cities had statutes and were governed by democracy while at the same time America for example it was governed by the Cherokee Indians or the Aztec tribes who still drank human blood and lived as cannibals.
    6. In Durrës, intellectualism was so high that we have documented in the 12th century for the first time the note of protest of an Orthodox Metropolitan, who writes to Constantinople, against slavery, 300 years before it started as a debate in Europe.
    7. In Durrës, trade was done even with Tunisia, Ukraine and France, since the 5th century. While at the same time for example the Scandinavian countries still lived by worshiping the tree or the mountain.
    8. The Church of Albania had issued a Cardinal (and a cardinal was no small thing then).
What happened next? The Ottomans just came and for 500 years made that every Albanian forgot who they really were.

    Just a history fact:
When the Arabs asked "what is his name?" , pointing to the figure of Alexander, they thought that the Christians told them "Al Eksander", since "al" in their language is the equivalent of "the" (e.g. the emperor)... Then they also misspelled the x, and instead of pronouncing it "eks" they wrote "esk"... So from then onwards they call Alexander "Iskander", or even Skender/Skander, until this day....

    • @OK-ok2cw
      @OK-ok2cw 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      fun fact:
but there is no meaning in arabic nor turkish for eskender. it is a pronouncing matter. they may have mispelled it because it doesn't pass their language. in turkey the greeks are called as "yunanlılar". "yunanlı" or "yunan" for greek and "yunanlılar" for greeks. "-lar" ending makes it plural in turkish. it comes from "yunan" which was first used by persians referring to "ionian". it is a pronouncing style of a different language. mika is michael in nordic languages which comes from mikail. marry is a different pronounce of marriam . jesus is mispelling of isa.
"istanbul" is also a different pronounce of constantinapolis. there is no meaning for "istanbul" in turkish. early pronounce of it was "istanpol" and more early versions were "asitane". they used the name how they first heard it.
make a little research for the animal sounds and how they reflected from each languages.
for example for dog sound, all the countries have different sounds.
hav hav, graw, wow wow, nom nom...etc
it is not because there is a different meanings in each languages, it is because what they hear when it makes that sound.
japanese cannot understand difference between "r" and "l", arabs cannot understand "p" "b" and "f" difference, turks sometines use "k" "g" and "kh" for each other. west cannot understand "kh" or "ch" or "x" voice. so the christianity is spelled with "k" in west but it is with "h which comes from throat" in original.
russians say "varvara" for "barbara". turks say "farfara". germans understand it as "fau" sound when it starts with "v".
by the way another fun fact:
the "voldemort" in harry potter fiction is a variation for "wladimir" in russion. they use the different variation of russian names for the bad characters in their tales.

@@OK-ok2cw so r u offended cause i said "misspelled" instead of "misheard"?...
There is a town called Iskenderun in the southern border of modern Turkey which was formerly known as Alexandretta...
Also, Constantinople is an entirely different issue... It was emperor's Konstantinos the Great City... Constantino's Poli (Polis in Greek means City, that's where Police comes from as well)....... But the Turks probably didn't want their great conquest to have the name of an emperor, and they changed it.. the legend says that they heard the Byzantines saying in Greek "Εις την Πόλη" aka "is tin poli" which meant "to the City", and City with a capital letter was only the greatest city of all, Constantinople... So from the phrase "is tin Poli" came "Is-tan-bul"...
As for the Japanese and Russian, I don't even have a clue, maybe you are right.....

I am not offended but I say it is not because of the meaning, it is because of the pronouncing. in arabic, "x" is pronounced as "isk" not as "iks". These cities have hellenistic culture and most of them protect their original names. For example there is also a city called Defne in Antioch which takes its roots from Daphne the Greek mitologic figure.

Hello sir, some inaccuracies of this video have to be noted:
1-The first thing that gets into the eye its the inaccuracy of the map, where many venetian posessions are not shown correctly like the city of Durrazzo/Durres wich at the time and still today it is the most important coastal city in albania and didn't fall untill 1501. The city of Scutari/Shkoder its not shown in the map while it was the most important city of the northern albanian venetian held fortifications. Some southern albanian towns like Himara supported Skanderbeg and aren't shown in the map. The northern italian venetian state was much larger at the time controlling cities as far as Brescia and Bergamo in Lombardy and many greek islands like Corfu, Negroponte (Euboea), Naxos ecc. were venetian held islands .
2- Costantinople didn't fall until 1453 while in the video during the time of the early rebellion(1443-1448) its shown as an ottoman city, after Murad II retreated to Edirne(Adrianople) after failing in the siege of Kruja (1450) he passed away that winter and was succeded by Mehmet II who turned his attention to Costantinople and conquered it in 1453.
    Events to be noted:
The first Ottoman-Venetian war of 1463-1479 was a crucial event in the area not mentioned in the video where after the death of Skanderbeg in 1468 the Serene Republic took over albanian fortesses like Kruja and Lezhe wich both fell in 1478 where in the video it is said that it fell 10 years after Kruja. Then followed Shkodra wich fell in 1479 and the last albanian bastion would remain Durres held by Venice wich fell in 1501.
Overall the video has good graphics quality however the historic details and events have to be accurate in order for people to better undertand the geopolitical events that shaped the area in the way we know it today.
Thank you for your content sir and I hope in the future more high quality videos will be released, as im interested in further historic content.
    Have a good day. (:

Hey Blendi, thank you for taking the time to write such an insightful comment.
I appreciate you pointing out things that could be improved. This channel is just me, and being only human I occasionally overlook certain things (such as the Venetian coastal cities) or think omitting details will not matter to the narrative (Adding Shkoder to the map, or since I mentioned the 1453 conquest of Constantinople in the first section, since the video is long I did not want to draw too much attention to it later on, when it was chronologically fitting).
Still, I strive to improve every video. As much as I want my videos to be informative and entertaining, I also learn a lot from the comment section after upload thanks to people like yourself.

Next to this Mosque, in 2017, during the celebration of Kurban Bajram, at the Skenderbeg square, the monument of Skenderbeg WAS FENCED by large screen panels provided by the Albanian Islamic Community. The disappointment culminated with comments of the Albanian Imam Armand Aliu on the media; stating that Albanian Muslims SHOULD NOT BE PROUD OF SKENDERBEG who ruthlessly fought Islam"

It’s true. A lot of imams and traitors talk bad on Skenderbeu but the government usually deals with them nice and swiftly. The mosque part is true also. Erdogan doesn’t like the fact that when he visits Albania he has to be reminded by a massive statue of Skenderbeu so he though building a giant mosque within close proximity of it would make him feel better. The truth is only 2% of Muslims in Albania attend mosque or are practising Muslims. And everyone in Albania from Orthodox to Muslim respect and love him.
Albania takes it very seriously when you talk bad on nationalistic heroes 😅 as an example, Albanian police have arrested imams who have publicly spoke bad about Skenderbeu or any nationalistic heroes.

Skender Beg was a Serb. Born in a noble Serbian family. In 14 century the territory of present day Albania was part of Car Dushan's Serbian empire. After his death his son Uros (known as Uros the weak) allowed local noble families to take the power and fragment the empire. Skenderberg was an orthodox christian, which is the fate of the Serbs. His identity was later stolen by Albanians and they claim that he was an Albanian.
The English explicitly wrote in the "Encyclopedia Britannica": "Djuradj Kastriot(ic) or Skender-beg is of Serbian ethnic origin." Oliver Schmitt, a famous Viennese albanologist, wrote in his recent study that not only was Kastriot of Serbian origin, but he did not fight for the Albanian state and people, but to renew his father's homeland. Oliver is accused in Albania of "committing sacrilege and insulting Albanian national pride!"
The charter of Jovan Kastriotić, Skenderbeg's father, to the Hilandar monastery from 1426. The chronicle is called "The Second Hilandar Act", it was written in Cyrillic in the Serbian language. In the document, along with father Jovan, his sons Repos, Stanisa and Djuradj are also mentioned - namely, this is the second historical mention of Skenderbeg's name in Serbian form. The first, also in Serbian form, is in the "First Hilandar Act". Along with the Serbian form, history remembers the Latin George, Georgius - but it is never written anywhere under the Arnaut name "Gjergj". He also had a brother Kostadin, sisters Jelena, Mara, Vlajka, Angelina and Marica - also all of them are remembered and written in history only under the Serbian or Latin forms of his name.

@@ЂурађКастриот-ю2эHis mother ( Skanderbeg )came from the Muzaka family (Albanian) and not from the Brankovic family ...

Imagine what Skanderberg could have done with more support from the more powerful nations. Seems like Skanderberg did the impossible over and over again yet got little help. I wonder why they helped Hunyadi so much but not Skanderberg?

Don't forget = The title of Athleta Christi (in Latin: Champion of Christ).
The popes gave a political character to this title from the 15th century, by attributing it to military leaders defending Christianity, especially against the Ottoman Empire.
Among these leaders, we can cite:
🇭🇺 John Hunyad of Transylvania, representing the kingdom of Hungary.
🇦🇱 the Albanian hero Skanderbeg named Athleta Christi by popes Pius II and Nicholas V.
🇲🇩 the voivode Stephen III the Great of Moldavia, named Athleta Christi by Pope Sixtus IV.
      And the Serbs? So-called resistant?
      Where are they ?
That's why the Serbs would dream to have such a hero !
