    Thank you for your honesty and for sharing. Christian is still so young - I think it’s the not knowing that is so difficult. Not knowing if he will talk, not knowing if you are doing enough, not knowing what the future holds. But I think Christian has so much potential, and you and Hugo are great parents. I find your vlogs very informative. Thank you

      it is very hard not knowing,especially the not knowing if he'll talk I don't let myself think about that too much. I just take it day by day

    We are going through a diagnosis right now and your story really hit me. It’s such a scary time and it’s so confusing. We are trying to document it as well in hopes of being able to make sense of things and find some connection. I don’t know anyone who has an autistic child and there are so many unknowns. Thanks so much for this video.

    Love needs no words! Love needs no words! Love needs no words!
    My son was diagnosed on 9/12/2017 (I will never ever forget that date). He was diagnosed ASD Non Verbal and non social just like your Christian!
    He started ABA on 11/20/2017 and since then he started learning to do eye contact, after a month and half of ABA he started saying A and Mama for the very first time (he was 2 yrs and 6 months old) and take not he is a non-verbal and did not do baby talk prior to ABA. And now it’s been two months of ABA just last Sunday he is now able to say BaBa!!!
    My point is, have faith and be positive.
    As soon as I found out that my was autistic I always talks about it, I say my mantra “Love needs no words”
    I cried a lot and everyday since I found out that he is autistic. I learned to embrace the word autistic or autism.
    I thank you and your channel because when I was struggling and in the beginning of my sons diagnosis I watched all your videos and it helps me a lot. Thank you

      Your comment makes me so happy!! ABA can do amazing things, as well as having amazing parents. That's a big accomplishment !! My son has had ABA for going on a year and that's the ONE thing he hasn't advanced in much. We get more sounds now then before which is a start at least :) thank you for watching I'm so happy to hear we help make you feel at least a bit better when times are hard. The comments I receive from you guys bring me the same comfort 💙💙

    We received our son's diagnosis just a bit over 10 years ago, and now that I'm watching your video and especially hearing your story and thought process it's reminding me so much of what we went through. It sounds like you have a very supportive family, which is another thing I can relate to, thankfully. You are absolutely right when you say your son is awesome :-) And you are awesome, too, and a wonderful example to follow. You recognize all of your kids' strengths while also acknowledging they are individuals. I also like how you recognize the role your daughter plays as a sibling and that she is also needing your attention and love, too. So much to juggle, and you're doing a great job (I've watched a few of your other videos you've made since this one). I'm proud of you, mama!

    I wish I saw this video when my son was diagnosed! So true there is a lot of autism videos showing only the negative aspects of the spectrum that it can really scare someone that doesn’t know much of it. It caused me to have denial for a long time about my sons diagnosis. But over time and educating myself and relating to others going through the same thing that I began to accept it and understand and be okay. I really related to a lot of things you said in this video, thank you for all you do! ❤️💙

    Wow, thank you for this video. My son is starting development therapy, speech therapy, and OT next week. He's not diagnosed, but he has a lot of the same signs as your son. I'm so encouraged by what you said that it will all be okay. I felt so scared and alone these past few days.

    Thank you so much! You are such an amazing mom to Christian and a beautiful example to follow. My little boy recently got diagnosed with autism 4 months ago. It's been so hard. When I heard you speaking I was reminded of myself of all the fear, doubt and concern for his future. I kid you not I used to cry every single night, I felt so powerless. But God is so good, He lead me to your video and just seen you and Christian is so beautiful and reassuring that everything will be alright. Really appreciate all your efforts to upload n sharings with us... i've watched few of your vlogs alrdy before come to this one... all are informative so pls keep updating ...i like all your sharings cause you make it very clear, plus editing of your son recordings to relate with the subjects, all infos are like what a great therapist should be doing.... here we dont have much resources with good profesionals, or even there is, need to spend lots of money... whatmore with pandemic times making things worse...
    (I dreaded everytime went for therapies at hospital, because it was so difficult to get appointment due to long queues, but when there was one, i was left frustated and helpless at the end, i always expecting at least little bit of something beneficial, after waiting for long... yet the reallity was kinda feel like wasting my kid time, my time, our hope, our effort etc cause not much output came from each therapy session)
    Anyway, to those watching, pls do not dislike if this video is not up your preference! just click away and that's it! tbh, i cannot understand why anyone should dislike an honest sharing by a mom, esp since this is not an easy thing to do, plus she just want to share to help other parents going through similar situation
    So, pls be considerate it is alrdy difficult enough for us without absurd response from certain someone

    My son is 10 and severe limited verbal. Your son's baby videos (as well as how he is now after watching a few videos) show a big difference from how my son was. Your guy has always shown very good RECEPTIVE language- meaning he understands what is said (mostly) That is really wonderful and amazing. Because of that - do a little looking into apraxia- because his inability to speak yet may be more related to oral ability, etc. My son never understood anything. He still seems not to. He does have a few words at age 10 but he is very far away from speaking. You two are fantastic parents- it's easy to tell how much you have immersed yourself in all of the learning we have to do!

    • @ROCKNSTIMS
      @ROCKNSTIMS  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your kind message :)
      His speech therapist has mentioned apraxia but they said they need more time with him to make sure it is apraxia. I’m thinking he may have apraxia based on what I’ve read on it. He is doing things at speech that helps with apraxia so he at-least has a head start even without the diagnosis. He used have more trouble with communication. Recently he is being way more receptive to communication so I’m very hopeful :)

    Thank you for sharing your experience and what you felt as a parent going through a diagnosis. It’s a topic not often brought up and talked about. We go through so much emotionally as parents, I’m so glad you decided to share your experience, I have felt sharing my story with friends and family going through a diagnosis has brought some sense of comfort and normalcy to others going through a diagnosis.

    • @ROCKNSTIMS
      @ROCKNSTIMS  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It really does help to know others have gone through the same thing and to see that they are doing well and that the child is achieving things they didn't think they would. It's one of the hardest things I've had to go through. Thinking something may be wrong, having to sit with the fear for months and then getting the diagnosis and not knowing what the future holds but it's also made us a stronger family. Thank you for watching 💙💙

    Thank you so much for making this video. My little sister is also non verbal autistic, she will soon be 7. I really understand the "numb" feeling that you got when your son was diagnosed. For my family too, we knew before the official diagnosis that something was different, but acknowledging this does take a while. You are totally right about the bond being stronger between the siblings, we are 4 sisters and we communicate and understand our little sister like nobody else. Im really happy to discover your channel, i can see even with the comments how many more children/parents are in this situation, and in a certain way it really reassure me not to be alone.

      Buy two they should have words from what I’ve been told. Have you touched base with your child’s pediatrician? Early intervention is very helpful as well as speech therapy . Sometimes it’s just a speech delay but it’s best to discuss with a dr.

    Thank you so much for this video! I have a 4.5 year old on the spectrum. He has made so much progress. He will be starting Kinder in the fall & I feel so nervous about it!

    • @ROCKNSTIMS
      @ROCKNSTIMS  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was very nervous about Christian starting school too but it's one of the best decisions I've made so far for him :)
      Is your son going to regular kinder or a special class ? My son still has 1 more year of pre k after this in an autism based class but I'm already nervous of the idea of him going to regular kindergarten ( it's still too early to tell if he would move forward in a regular school setting or continue in a autism based classroom )

    • @PinkPrincess21c
      @PinkPrincess21c 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rocking The Spectrum right now he attends an autism base preschool. He will soon be evaluated to determine what will be the recommendations for Kindergarten. Unfortunately the school district he belongs to does not have a special education program..he would be attending general ed & be pull out for one on one..Im not sure if he is ready for that. We have a second option..for him to attend a different school that does offer special education (SDC) and be slowly mainstream. I will be observing both kinder classes before his transitional IEP. It just makes me nervous..I hope I make the right choice for him. We still have a few months to decide.

    • @ROCKNSTIMS
      @ROCKNSTIMS  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds like you are doing your research on this. What's his biggest obstacle at this time, your biggest fear in regards to him going to regular kindergarten?I'm sure you will do the right thing with all the thought and research your doing on it ! it's always hard to make such a big decision! I always feel like evaluations are hard on parents (like myself) because you get so used to what he can and can't do but then someone else is pointing it out and adding more things he can't do that it brings you down all over again:(

    • @PinkPrincess21c
      @PinkPrincess21c 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rocking The Spectrum yes! I totally feel that way. He has improved a lot with speech; however since he struggles with socialization and has limited interest..his speech and communication is basic needs & manding.. he is also very distracted and will only focus on something if its interesting to him and with that comes some tantrums. At Pre-school he sometimes struggled with staying with his group because if something caught his attention he would want to take off. He is very smart..knows his numbers, letters and shapes..so my concern is finding a class that can provide modifications for his needs but not make the work too easy that he is not learning..

    My son was diagnosed I believe in late 2013 as non verbal autistic. Despite the speech pathologist saying oh he doesn’t need it ( I wanted to punch her) and getting no help with that he can actually talk but only to a certain extent. He will repeat what you ask him and just repeat what you say most of the time which is called echolalia. He was in ABA and OT for 2 years and now has come so damn far I’m telling you! He reads now a grade level or two above what most kindergarteners read at and his writing is amazing due to the hard work me and my husband have put in and continue to put in. IEP is a damn nightmare. Always know your parental rights and always read before signing anything with regards to his schooling

      Im using PECS icons to communicate with my little guy. He has just started grabbing the icons this past couple weeks. I have been working with ABA for about 2 months now. My wife works, I stay at home with the kids. His pointing has become great as well within the last month. I never thought I would have to teach my child to point. This whole experience has given me a much greater appreciation for life itself. Those little things I always took for granted. Im not really a religious person but I do pray to god every night thanking him. Its very easy to fall off the rails (get depressed) when you have a child with autism. But I choose to just let him be a little boy vs be a little boy with autism. They are so special and so sweet. I wish the best for you. It almost made me cry when I saw you crying in this video. Like I know exactly that feeling. Your words here are very encouraging to parents with autistic children and even children in general. Thanks.

    Hello mom of Christian..I feel so much in your shoes...My daughter is 4 and has autism, currently doing full time ABA. She was diagnosed at 2 years in my home country(Sri Lanka). She started ABA fulltime only this January after getting to the USA last May. She is nonverbal..But sings a lot with a few clear words. Although she has completed 3 months of full time ABA she resists getting dressed in the morning and seems very unhappy to go there. She looks at me every morning as if to ask"why cant i stay at home and play with you?". It breaks my heart sometimes and i feel confused about if im doing the right thing for her. Like i dont know if i should continue ABA or just let her go to special ed pre-k or try floortime /DIR. My daughter has just started learning a bit of PECS..her i contact has improved and she doesnt spin anymore. But she still is nonverbal and doesnt pay much attention and i dont feel like there's a massive improvement after being in ABA full time for 3 months. And it makes me wonder why she seems so unhappy to go there?She has started biting her own hand and pulling her own hair. I see you are doing an amazing job as a mom. Christian is so sweet ..he's so lucky your daughter is there to play with him.i wish my daughter had someone like that to play with..what should i do about ABA? i thought since you have been through this rodeo you might be able to help me.

      I think every child is different. What might work for one may not work for another. With my experience with my son you can not expect to see amazing improvements within a short amount of time. My son has had consistent ABA therapy for over 2 years and it has been very slow progress, ups and downs but I do think overall it has helped him be more independent and helped him with communication. But I also have him in pre k and speech so it has been team work for sure. If your child is very unhappy there try talking to the bcba and ask what they can do to make It more fun. My son doesn’t like getting up to go to school either but once he is walking up the steps he has a smile on. My son is not happy to start therapy after school and will at times cry but when he’s in the room working I hear laughs and giggles as well. Follow your gut if you feel something is off do your best to pinpoint the source. Look into other therapies and you can always try others out. There is no wrong or right way. Sending love and positive vibes 💙💙

    Hi my son was just diagnosed with mild autism at 34 months. We are about to start ABA therapy and he is currently taking early intervention at a public school. What is your opinion regarding which is more helpful? Do you recommend that we get as much ABA hours as possible and forfeit any public school hours for the sake of starting ABA as soon as possible? Also, did you see huge improvements (i.e game changer) when he started ABA? Also, we can not get our son to follow our pointing. I remember in one of your videos that you said your son got this down; how long did it take because we have been trying as parents for the last few months and he just doesn't seem to get it. We point our finger to the milk cup on the top shelf and he won't look at the direction of our pointing finger; he will just get more mad and whine for milk and keep looking at us without looking at the direction of our finger. He might look up and do a full hand reach but i was told this is not the same as pointing as it is not pure communication but rather a physical grabbing if that makes sense. Thanks so much. I wish you the best. I see you are working very hard for your son.

    • @ROCKNSTIMS
      @ROCKNSTIMS  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello. It’s hard to say since every child is different and could benefit from different things. From my personally experience I can say it’s a hard decision since you hear ABA is best and its best to do as much as possible at a young age. Keep in mind that our kiddos are still very young and we want them to have free time to play and not just do therapy. When my son turned three he was having 4 hours of therapy a day as well as school but after a while that seemed to overwhelm him so we lowered it to 2 hours of ABA a day and school. My son really benefits from having other kids around him to learn and socialize so school was/is important to me but he definitely gain a lot of skills in focus and following instructions with ABA. I can’t say which therapy benefited him more I feel like it was more a combination of all. One thing that I would like to say is no therapy is a game changer. It’s more of a slow and steady wins the race thing. It takes a lot of months of constant work. Consistency all around is key and you will see improvement. My son was slow progress and at times I felt like it should be more progress but i definitely see a lot of growth overall.

    • @ROCKNSTIMS
      @ROCKNSTIMS  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      In regards to pointing, what helped us was not making it very hard at first. Don’t do things that are high up or far away. Start with something very motivating (food,ipad etc) pretty much in front of him. Have someone behind him and do hand over hand pointing with time give him some space to do it alone without help. Once he has that down u can make it a little more challenging by making the item he wants be farther away. I hope that makes sense. When my son is learning something new, he requires a lot of prompting at first

    • @leeeus
      @leeeus 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your comments. I realize my son is autistic and does not have great eye contact but being in a class with other kids with also not great eye contact, do you feel that kids can learn to "to lose" their eye contact? I feel he learns alot when he is in the mall playground and running with the other kids. Even though he does not interact with them, there have been rare moments that he will chase the other kids around with a big smile, and the other kids will also look him right in the eye to try to talk to him when they bump into each other.

    • @ROCKNSTIMS
      @ROCKNSTIMS  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No i don’t think so, also at least for my son his class has children on the spectrum as well as neuro typical children so the goal is to have our kiddos learn how to socialize by having all the kids engage with each other. Yeah some bad behaviors may be learned but same goes for good behaviors. My son gained so much his first year in pre k.

    • @leeeus
      @leeeus 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      My kid's class only has kids on the ASD spectrum so I'm a little concerned about the bad behaviors. As a sidenote, I have started my kid on gluten free broccoli fries as a way to try to get him to eat vegetables. He is a picky eater and he eats these pretty well.

    And about your daughter, I can tell you that she is truly awesome sister! Christian is very lucky. And mark my words, she will grow up to be an amazing and caring adult :-)
    I know how you feel about worrying if she's getting enough of your time. What I do with my older kids, is we have a "special day" or a "date" once a month. One month it's just me and my daughter going out (cinema, swimming, shopping- anything, just a two of us) whilst my oldest son is having a special day with his dad. And the next month we swap, I go out with my son, whilst my daughter is out with her dad. You could give this a try if you want. We really enjoy our "dates" and kids look forward to spending some quality one on one time. I think it's very healthy for them (and me)

After researching and finding one of your videos I see SO MUCH OF MY CHILD in your videos. Thank you so much for making these videos. It has helped me so much to understand and relate in a way I didn't before. My daughter is mostly non verbal, says random words at times. She mostly brings me and my hand to get what she wants. I have had break downs because now I understand why my child is different than other kids her age. Again, thank you for this and being raw about it. Omg my son just turned 2 years old and he is in the same situation than Christian exactly the same he will be diagnose at the end of this month August 2018. I am scary, I kind I know that he is in the spectrum,but is something we don't want to hear. I am ready to fight this battle against autism. Thanks for your video. I have a question I have heard at lot about the gluten free diet at soon at I noticed that he was in the spectrum I stopped giving him milk and gluten and I noticed the change on him because he was obsessed with milk he didn't want to anything just milk. Have you ever tried the diet?

    • @ROCKNSTIMS
      @ROCKNSTIMS  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello,
      When my son got the diagnosis we did try the gfcf diet for a while but we didn’t really notice a big difference so we pretty much stopped giving him dairy milk switched to almond milk but he can have things with milk just not straight up milk because he did have stomach pains and giving him almond milk did help reduce the pain. But he does have gluten. Im glad to hear you see positive changes with this diet. What kind of change did you see if you don’t mind me asking ?💙

    • @ROCKNSTIMS
      @ROCKNSTIMS  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Being scared of the diagnosis is normal. I felt the same way but you will see this is just a diagnosis nothing changes who your son is. Think of it as a way to get even more help he will need to live a happy independent life. With time it will get easier and trust me you will be amazed by the growth you will see over the years with therapy and your love. sending you positive thoughts don’t worry everything will work out and you will become even more of a super mom and you will be his biggest advocate 💙

    I just found your vlogs. My 21 month old is showing all the symptoms you mentioned. But when I took him to get evaluated they said he is showing all signs of autism but he is too young to diagnose. But they haven't started early therapy yet.

    • @ROCKNSTIMS
      @ROCKNSTIMS  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your pediatrician said he’s too young to diagnose ? My son started early intervention before he was diagnosed with Autism. Early intervention helps with children that show delays so regardless of the diagnosis if your son is showing delays most pediatricians give you a referral to get help with speech,fine motor skills and gross motor skills.
