    11:13 _this_ landscape near city scape definitely rings a bell
    I think it was here I saw some crosses for pilgrims who had died when crossing the motor way wrong time of the day

    6:36 Redecilla del Camino - rings a bell.
    Not sure about exactly what, but rings a bell.

      Btw, what is written on the hoodies?

    • @hglundahl
      @hglundahl 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah, yes.
      _"De Recedilla, il ne me reste pas beaucoup de mémoire, à moins que c'était là que j'ai mangé le repas avec les proches de la belle de Nájera."_
      From Redecilla (I mixed two letters in haste), I do not have much memory, unless it being there I ate the meal with those close to the beauty from Nájera.
      Obviously, it could also have been (and they do not exclude each other) admiring the baptismal font.

    For progress, I am checking now what the start of my foot pilgrimage was like.
    18.VIII.2004, I left Pamplona, 28.VIII.2004 I reached Burgos.
    11 days - and this is what some guys calculate for this stretch. 217 km. Actually did 19 km 727 m per day this stretch in medium.

    1:56 I agree tortilla is one of the high peaks of Spanish cooking.
    Eggs, potatoes, onions, a frying pan - what could go wrong? (Exept inept cooks bungling the process, if it happens, but that's not what happens in cafés).

      We try to make it at home, but it is never as good as the ones made by Pablo’s grandmother.

      Try mantecada (your husband will know what it is) - I suppose it's sometimes used in Spain, since when I asked to open a tortilla package in a bakery touched by a Muslim, they asked if there was pork in it. There wasn't.

    Thank you for posting your journey. I have done the Camino in stages. 2016 and 2018. I was supposed to return in 2020, but we all know what happened then. I have loved watching your journey.
    I am excited to watch your next video. I was also wondering if you ladies would be interested in being guests on my show Casa DeConfidence Podcast.
    I would love to chat with fellow pilgrims about the adventure. Let me know...

    Hola from Alaska. Did you know that if Alaska were cut in two, Texas would be the third largest state?
    I'm loving your videos. You two are an inspiration. ¡Buen camino!

      I believe it! Did you know that I have been to 49 states. Only Alaska is left. We’ve saved the best for last!

    9:35 While one or two albergues actually had New Age connexion (one category of pilgrims being the "Shirley McLanes" - a NA pilgrim), the idea of donativo is absolutely not tied to that.
    If you saw New Age stuff inside, I'll believe you it was New Age, but donativo is in use with strictly Catholic albergues as well.

    • @staceyandmollypilgrims
      @staceyandmollypilgrims  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This wasn’t a standard donativo. But, we were grateful that it was there.

    10:50 _"that's a lot for back then"_
    Untypical, as it is today.
    A lot? Well, have you heard of a man born in 1200 and died in 1310? St. Alexis Falconieri.
    The median for men in professions other than kingship or nobility is usually around 66 for men - except Italian painters, they are like 55, like royalty.
    This means, if they hadn't had a child mortality unlike ours, they would have lived longer in medium than Russian men do today or did a few decades ago, this century, when the male medium was 58.9 years. The child mortality is pretty probably in excess of ours, but it is not quite as well documented as how long men lived if they had such and such a profession which made them somewhat prominent.
