Back on the 76 Pontiac Astre barn car, wiring, ignition, and other repairs in hopes of reviving this little Astre from it's 25 year nap! #broken #car #classiccars #project #barn #viral
When I was looking for my first car in 1974, the Pontiac Astre, and Chevy Vega Cosworth were on the table. The Cosworth Vega was black with gold pin stripes at the dealer in town, and the Astre was lime green. Needless to say, I choose the Pontiac because it was a substantially cheaper. I did modify my Astre, with Gabriel hyjackers rear shocks, which were air shocks, and sixty series rear rims and tires, and seventy series front rims and tires, and a Thrush muffler and tail pipe. My Astre was lime green, and not a hatchback. Sure was a blast to drive around town, and a fun car for my first car, it was a 1974 model. Those were the days my friend, we thought they would never end.
Don't you hate thinking about buying something that you just know is sitting on a shelf somewhere.....unwanted. Those Vegas were cool....they went to the larger bumper and spoiled the look. tHanks for the video!
I might have a distributor for you. The oil pressure switch also runs the electric fuel pump on these. You better check the timing belt for rodent damage.
....Cobbled up stuff......not doing it right.......Those were the words back at the factory when these cars came out with their aluminum blocks. Why stop now? You are just keeping with tradition and being smart about it at the same time. Money doesn't grow on trees; first things first.

That is a really cool memory, thank you for sharing!
@@Wrenchingwithray My pleasure my friend!👍👍
From what I remember these cars had the most comfortable softest seats.
Definitely not bad for a economy car!

For sure!
Caddy ATS 2.0 Turbo and transmission would be a cool swap for that car
That would definitely be cool
Add a little oil in the cylinder's that will bring up the compression...
It's currently sitting with cvt fluid in the cylinders

Timing belt is in tact I thought the same thing, it won't even fire off either it doesn't have much compression
A little ATF in cylinders might help with the compression
@@Raycr I think that is my next step
You tried. No it is time for a swap engine, many great options out there!
Ya I'm actually not sure what I want to do
@@Wrenchingwithray
Ment to say now it is time! Should a blast to drive!
A turbo V6 Buick would be cool
I'm thinking about a turbo 4.3 V6 much easier to find lol
The main problem with those engines is aluminum cylinder walls. Scratchy Scratchy.
Aluminum block iron head is a weird combo lol
Check that the timing belt isn’t rotted and broken.
It's not broken that was my thought
V8 swap would be fun
I agree
Try Mistery oil
Might try it next lol

Lol true build quality sucked on these
That's a repaint
The guy I got it from said it's original paint but who knows
That’s the way they painted them
Sounds horrible pull the valve cover
That's the next step I think, it's getting oil in the top end you can see it through the fill cap
