When you're 100% sure that building looks familiar, he shows a map helping you realize you drunkenly stumbled off the bus stop near it to the US state department complex across the street. FYI, calling it a "base" is generous.
It is the main transit hub for US officials between Tokyo and US military bases that fly them in and out of Japan. There is a minimum of a morning and afternoon flight every day, but you get 5-10 at busy times, even more when VIPs visit. Flights also run 24/7, and don't have to comply with Japanese aviation regulations on height and noise.
@@nicbrownable, stayed at the Hardy Barracks a dozen times. Never saw one bird on those pads. To this day I'm sure it's a CIA safe house and the Chinese restaurant across the street is spying on it.
@@Crazt It has effectively become a transit terminal in recent years. The Japanese Defense Force say that they passed on 200 complaints to the Americans about helicopter flights to Hardy Barracks between 2017 and 2020. That is just the passed on complaints. Some of the flights do informal tours of Tokyo landmarks on the way too, so they are likely VIPs coming and going. I agree that "State department" is very much a euphemism, and they will have certain offices embedded within. You could probably predict US diplomatic pushes and military exercises in East Asia by graphing the number of flights.
@@nicbrownable, talking with the staff there, most the flights they get are basic flight quals that pilots need to complete. I wouldn't be shocked if some hot shot took the opportunity to play with their flight path around some good photo opportunities. I know complaints have gone up since they started construction on the new entry control point, flights have have gone down during that period and I just didn't notice much on my first trip in 2009. Also the WWII underground bunker is a cool detail, but it was buried since it held no real historical significance.
The problem I find with Japanese City apartments is that the design is quite functional but ugly, something I would expect in a 2005 MTV Cribs. If we compare this with the beautiful old buildings in the countryside, its quite a massive design change. For reduced space ofcourse.
So the bathroom doesn’t have a sink? To wash your hands after using the toilet? Yea nah. After visiting Japan, I’d say this place is nice but compared to American homes, I’d never pay that much for something so small. Definitely a good vacation spot.
I grew up in this neighborhood, I knew I would be gentrified 30 years ago. It was fun living there but also depressing knowing my eventual fate. I now make enough to afford this rent 10 times over but it feels wasteful spending this much on rent.

The rent for something that looks nothing like this in NY is 5-6k
Lived in roping I as an embassy brat from 86-95
I've seen so many places with a washer and no dryer. For 4200 bucks I want a dryer as well. I don't want to dry my clothes on the balcony.
That machine is a washer and dryer in one
I love it
Show us Roppongi hills residences near Mori tower
You look absolutely Dapper sir
Name of the building? Address doesn't give any results on design/architectural plans
Nice area
He said 450k yen a month at current conversion rate that's actually down to 3k instead of 4.2k lol.
That's something interesting if you make USD in Japan your income techniquely grew a lot in last few years lol.
Chris is behind the camera init? 4:03
I feel sad for anyome who have to loose that much money for an apartment that small. And without luxurious furnitures. And no facilities at all. What a scam!
Totally a scam.
Random curiosity, Why do outlets in japan lack a ground?
Most appliances don't need one. For refrigerators, microwaves, and AC units, among others, they make a different outlet with two prongs and a screw that tightens around a ground wire attached to the plug itself
i've looked at prices to buy in roppongi and you have to be a millionaire to afford to live there so 4200 usd isn't so bad
