Music video by M.I.A. performing Jimmy. (C) 2007 XL Recordings Ltd. under exclusive license to Interscope Records in the USA - เพลง
She is saying Jimmy Aja, which means come Jimmy, come. This song is actually based on an old Indian movie I saw 25 years ago. Basically a movie about a performer who is scared to perform on stage and he is frozen because his mom had just died. A friend of his, sings Jimmy Aja to encourage him to move and sing because life can't stand still. A very emotional movie and a good song. MIA just took that song and added her own influence.
I've seen clips of that movie and now that you've explained it, I can understand what's going on during this song, Thanks! :)
I know the movie your talking about, I love that movie, its such a classic movie, and I really like MIA influence on the song, I think she complement it very nicely :)
Can you please tell me what movie this is that you are speaking about? Thanks..
I Love M.I.A...
The name of this movie is Disco Dancer, Indian movie - came out in 1982. You can probably find it online
Thank you very much. I will look into it. I love foreign movies.. and because this song is one of my favorites, I am curious to see, perhaps, the source of inspiration.
Thank you..
She had the balls to do this at that time. She was definitely ahead of her time and no doubt she slayed it.
I’m dying to listen to her new album

Her music and her art is so multifaceted. Fuckin icon tbh, the stuff she makes is completely next level.
If you’re enjoying this song, you have good taste in music.
Cheers love! 😘

What an underrated song and album. Pop music needs creativity like this to stay exciting.
1 up your comment-I don't even like pop music but I love M.I.A. she's original. I was ready for a musical revolution after paper planes, but no other pop star can come close...
It's not really creativity. Not in this case. It's a slightly repackaged version of a Hindi song from the 70s. M.I.A. did manage to introduce/remind many people of that era, though, by this song.
Ritwik Banerjee fine then... what aboug Galang??
Don't get me wrong, please. I love many songs by M.I.A. This just doesn't happen to be one of them. Prefer the vintage 1982 version from Bollywood (I thought that movie was from the late 70s ... I was wrong, it was released in 1982).
This is copied from a bollywood song.
In 9 years she's aged only about 12 microseconds.
Yes! Truly an amazingorgeousexyouthfulookingreatimelesspecimen.
She actually looks younger now

M.I.A. is one of the greatest artists ever. Her songs about political issues were real, something we all can relate to also. Her style was unique - so unique that it made me best friend hate her music. I hope she hasn't stopped making music. "Aim" is an amazing album and I just started to like "Maya", her most overlooked album.

Yup I’m here in 2024. This song will be relevant in every version as long as people named Jimmy will be around.

It's hilarious to me how in all of her videos Her comments section is only filled with people who Really Love her art. There is not one hater. Not One.

She is trying to be cheesy and I love it. She knows what she is doing.
i'm not sure that's true. i think it's probably a legitimate homage to south asian film/music
It's called 'Kitsch' and is a style.
Nah, she always does that lazy sexy voice. It's her thing. Look at her other songs. This is basically her, being herself, doing the aja jimi song.

this woman is super underrated. Love all her songs. and people only know paper planes as its the only one radio. Politics
Marta eyore The song is copied from a 80s Bollywood song along with main lyrics
she deserves to be underrated
ShiVi001 who cares. she made the song better. all music is somehow copied from something...her music is awesome anyhow and if u dont agree u have a hearing problem
Marta eyore The music is copied
nobody cares about the lyrics(even they are copied)
The song might be better than the original( I don't think so)
But copying a song without giving credits to the original artist is straight up plagiarism :)
And if this hurts you that I don't care
I just wrote about the original song because I felt that people are being cheated
ShiVi001 um im sure she did that accordingly. .u cant just sample music without asking for the right to do so. Anyway if u want to investigate that further contact bollywood headquarters
Marta eyore Contacting Bollywood won't be hard because I live in India 😂😂
This song is for my brother! I'm so proud of him..he takes care of our dad! He works and he loves all of us! I love you little brother!! Jimmy Aja! Means your doing the dam thing!!
I’ve loved her since she first came out (I was in my teens) and still rocks! So unique, no one else can compete with her style.
She never could dance, but also since I was a teen couldn't take my eyes off her door style
I also have loved her since that mixtape with Diplo before her first album but I am off the MIA love train now she's a born again Christian antivaxer. I'll always love the old stuff though.
She is so creative yet a realist. Is not a sell out like every thing else in pop culture! Courageous and refreshing.... My respect!

Been skimming through her music for the first time. I first heard of her with paper planes. Her musical styles are all over the place. Not too many artist can get away that. Well in the U.S. at least.
its like she mixes different nationalities in her music videos....
And Jayzee dropped her because she was too unconventional
I love her man. The opening of the dance of a thousand hands was just so beautiful. I love the Indian culture and it’s in my list of travels. Such a good and spiritual country filled with colors and wonders. 🥰🙌🏾🙌🏾🤟🏾

Denis Breimann thank you sweet pea will do!
She sings "Jimmy, aaja", which means "Jimmy, come here". The word Aaja sounds similar to Polish word Chodź (Chadzać) which also means Come Here/Come On. It's because Slavic and Baltic languages are amazingly similar to Sanskrit, Hindu, and other languages of India. Even some tribal symbols of ancient Slavs are similar to these from India.
that is fascinating.
Wow...we learn something everyday! We are all so similar in many ways❤
I once watched some old romani and guji lads having a right old time when they realised they had so many words in common.

This chick was way ahead of her time. I'm gonna throw her in the Bjork, Jim Morrison bucket of came way too early to ever be got by the masses
@johnny zero So did MIA... look at music in the 2010s and you can't deny her influence
@johnny zero you have no idea about the depth of intelligence, determination and hardships she had to endure and be able to produce such amazing and intelligent content that rocks. White folks always had it easy... Would love to know if Jim Morrison wasn't American or British, came from a small war torn island with no backing and literally no money at all and never comprised on their morals...and only wanted to produce stellar piece of art that moves people visually and words that can move mountains...talk about only social, economical and political issues close to your heart. All big music labels are run by white men or men whose only motivation is the bottom line of their corporate career.
@@Obelixlxxvi
I think many great artists are haunted by their inspiration. Jim Morrison witnessed a horrific car accident on an Indigenous reservation at the age of 4, and said the image of a bloodied body on the side of the road was one of his most formative memories. As a child growing up in a military family, he faced significant emotional abuse and grew up with few connections, always having to move with the stationing of his father. He grew up troubled, with a lack of direction, and sort of stumbled into fame and acclaim. This would only further substance abuse, leading to a heroine overdose and death at the age of only 27. His life wasn’t an easy one. That isn’t to discount what M.I.A. went through at all, but I think most great art is formed in tragedy and often comes from a troubled place, or a voice previously ignored.
I'm secretly changing my friend Jimmy's ringtone to this.

This was the first song that made me fall in love with M.I.A.
M.I.A has taken d music from the great Indian song of 80's...Jimmy Jimmy aaja aaja.
Amu Jaan I know that's why I like it even more. Its like she's making bollywood music go global and mainstream.
Bollywood songs are already globalised...it doesn't need M.I.A. good dat u liked it. It's my favorite too.
Amu Jaan well if most of the foreign people heard this song with mia first bollywood music wasn't so global after all right?
That means you don't have a great taste for music...latecomer may be. Well if you listen famous Bollywood songs, you will be in love forever.

Your music and its uniqueness make me feel good. It teaches me to be myself in ways of dressing, expressing myself. Only people who live with stereotypes won't understand what type of gold you are actually bringing out. Everything you do, wear and imitate with your voice and art style has a meaning.
OMG. I absolutely love M.I.A.s music videos. They are a piece of art alone.

Dude...she's scary in this music business with her music videos lol...and i mean good! but the last time i saw someone do something like this Music Video wise was...Left eye and her Block Party video and she was WAYYY ahead of her time...M.I.A. is too she will be the new start of the generation to to this more she's so damm creative and diverse it's crazy
What's awesome is that she actually isn't terribly unusual at all if you consider the cultural context applied to most music videos. As a Sri Lankan and a Hindu, she draws very strongly from their iconography and her religion in this video, with just the occasional dabble in the sort of things you would expect to see in music videos now (such as the silhouettes dancing). She's absolutely creative and diverse in her talents, it's just that she seems particularly radical to a Western audience who likely have very little experience with these kinds of visuals. :)

One of the most beautiful versions of classic song ever made, infused with a bliss and meditative inspirations.

This is one of my favorite songs from her!! It pisses me off that its so underrated!
If iggy azalea is a millionaire M.I.A. should be a billionaire. So much more talent and way more beautiful
YES!
they both are talentless...
Steve L u were the one who STARTED comparing these artists, not me u little hypocrite
Steve L dont talk about me like u know me. i just heard this artist for the first time and realised that she has no talent. Things u say dont make any kind of sence. How can u know what u like if u dont know what u dont like? I like real talent. The reason why these artists like M.I.A and Iggy azelia can make money with their "music" is people like u that dont have any knowledge about the genre.
Steve L U are probably the biggest hypocrite i have ever talked to. oh and please dont call this crap a "music"
Till now, I am appreciating what a great artist and good person MIA is. I mean, I have always enjoyed her music and checked out her stuff, but I think it is just until recently that I am realizing how good she was. She would moop the floor with many other indie/pop/mainstream female pop singers if she appeared today. I can say that she was ahead their time, when Indie and Mainstream were still extremely divided (something that didn't bother me TBH) but if she came out today, she would break way harder than she did 15 years ago.
I am leaving this comment here so after a month or a year when someone likes it, i get reminded of this masterpiece ❤
This is your reminder to listen to it again, but this time in my mix. It is timestamped for an easy find 😉
I can do that with my arms, I just dont want to right now...

Context for younger generation of Russians and Indians--> In the movie DISCO DANCER, Jimmy is a famous pop star. Unfortunately his Mum dies by getting electrocuted by a guitar. He is mentally affected. Now, he is needed at the stage for the performance, but the PTSD makes him mortified . He cant even touch his guitar. Then the girl sings this song, hoping to bring him back to his true superstar self (summary of the song is basically hey jimmy come back and sing us a song, the world is calling you etc. etc ). Don't worry, it has a happy ending, when he writes a song dedicated to his Mum and he finally returns back to his former glory. That comeback song is - "Yaad Aa Rahi Hai Tera Pyaar" th-cam.com/video/v7B1_y2LAeI/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=Shemaroo

Shes really having fun with this song. I can't get enough of it.
This is one of my favorite M.I.A. songs. She's so gorgeous and makes great music :D
I became a big admirer of this artist after hearing this song. It's not because of that disco-pop beats but because of the lyrics. The incorporation of different political and social references in her songs is what makes her music different from any of the artist right now.
Btw, this song is actually about a love story happening in Sudan on one of the worst time, "The Darfur genocide". Google it if you don't know about it.
And another thing I want to add is that this song is inspired by "T'es OK/You're OK" from Ottawan not from the song "Jimmy Aaja". Only the music was sampled and re-arranged from "Jimmy Aaja".
Thank you for sharing this. I thought this song is just a sampled song of Jimmy(Disco Dancer).

It's a serious mistake that M.I.A.'s "Kala" wasn't promoted by post-Soviet MTV and other music channels. considering this single is a marvelous remix of one song from Bollywood classic "Disco Dancer" which was a massive hit in Soviet Union, M.I.A. could become a really popular singer there.
