I remember reading Goosebumps as a kid and inside my minds eye I could actually "see" these stories playing out. It's crazy how much imagination we have as children. I can still still images from these stories, but they are images I created from R L Stine's words.
Dude. Thats what reading books is about. You start to "see" the story. Youre not just reading text. Thats the beauty of books. Our imagination combined with someone else's narration. Youre creating the visuals in your head, merging what is told in the story and what you imagine something to look like.

Goosebumps is what got me into horror. I remember when i was little i would get up and head off to school and all day i would read my goosebumps books, waiting and waiting, wishing school would just end already so i could go home and watch goosebumps. I always enjoyed the dark vibe that the series had, and it made me look forward to halloween every day. Something about it was just so entertaining. Its definitely a big part of my life. And thanks to R.L. Stine I became a huge horror buff.
I don’t know if this section is still active or not, but I agree so much. Goosebumps is such an eerie feeling and I don’t feel it out of anything else. But it’s a thing I can’t explain
S4GE It’s like a kid friendly kind of creepy, but it gets so weird at points that you question how someone would even have the imagination to come up with such an episode or scene. Like Say Cheese and die was so dark compared to a lot of episodes. Its like some of them were just goofy and then the next episode after that is completely serious and actually creepy
Throws paper at the plant man, "I died again!" "That killed me?!?" of course everyone knows that paper is made from trees and plants hate paper cause it kills trees.
I'm 11 and my library at school is filled with em. I've grown with goosebumps. I have the haunted mask. and I took my Casio keyboard and put fake blood on the keys and stuck a Goosebumps decal over it.
"Have you seen this dog? Short, brown hair, almost seven years old?" I'm positive that's a Silent Hill reference. "Have you seen a little girl? Short, black hair, just turned seven last month?"

***** Synopsis of Calling All Creeps, one of the few Goosebumps books whose exact plot I can remember: So the main character (Ricky?) is bullied at school by four eighth graders. He works for the school newspaper, but is on thin ice, and gets an assignment to cover some event. He shows up to cover the event, the four eighth graders bully him, and he ends up breaking the camera he got to cover the assignment. The newspaper boss "fires" him. As a joke, he inserts an ad into the paper saying "Calling All Creeps! Call *boss* at XXX-XXXX after midnight. If you're a Creep, you'll call." or something like that. After it's published, he gets a lot of calls from strangers asking stuff like "When are we meeting?" The four bullies meet up with him and apologize for bullying him, calling him their "commander." Then they pull off their skin and reveal that they are reptilian people disguised as humans. They call themselves "Creeps" and mention the ad he put in the paper. They start asking him when they can plant the seeds that will turn everyone into Creeps, too. Ricky has no idea what to do, so he stalls for as long as possible, I think he even tries to destroy the seeds. The bullies get suspicious and confront him, telling him to transform into a Creep to prove he's one of them. I can't remember how he gets out of that, but somewhere along the line you learn that once children eat the seeds they turn into mindless Creep slaves. So Ricky decides to put on a bake sale and put the seeds in a bunch of cookies. As he looks at all the other kids, he remembers how they've bullied him over the years, and decides to give everyone free cookies. Then, he eats one himself so he can enslave the whole school and begin wiping out the human race. It's the only Goosebumps book (to my knowledge) in which the villain wins, and it was completely unexpected.
I don't really recommend watching the show - I enjoyed the TV series, but only as supplementary content to the books. A lot of the books that I thought were pretty creepy kinda got ruined by the show.

+The 13th Earl Yeah. You're kind of torn between the 'do the right thing' and '...you know what, you assholes totally deserve this'. The thing I like about Goosebumps is that even when there's an established protagonist, you kind of put yourself in their shoes and sort of be the protagonist yourself. So in a way, you totally understand why they decided to do what they do.
+Tatiana Daniels Absolutely! Except for those few who you really don't want to survive.... I think the ending I found the strangest was My Hairiest Adventure.
"It may not be my hairiest adventure" I remember that one is that the episode where that guy turned into a dog and was originally a dog turned to human and turned back to a dog.
God the amount of nostalgia I have for these books and this lets play series. I remember coming back from school around halloween time watching this home alone with a storm, wrapped up in a blanket eating candy corn. Thank you for the memories John
For me it was my mom >.> she loved them, so I watched them with her. Although a lot of movies like A Nightmare on Elm Street and Child's Play are kind of amusing today, Hellraiser (the first ones) are still awesome to watch.
Darko Matterus Cool to have a mom that likes horror Movies because all the women i have ever known hates that kind of stuff. And the Nightmare on Elm Street movies are still some of the scariest and most disturbing horror movies ever for me.
+Annalise Catenacci - A competent parent knows when their child is old enough to do such things, usually once they can disconnect reality and fiction. I watched the Alien movies and some of the more standard classic 80's horror films at that age and I didn't turn into a mass murderer or babbling psycho. You just have to be aware of when your child is old enough for THEM specifically.
I have recently found you because of resident evil. I'm so excited to see this game. Goosebumps and are you afraid of the dark are the reasons I grew to love horror. I'm excited to binge your content!
I remember watching John's first vids like bo2 and so many other things the old days were the best I would just sit in my car seat and watch him all day when I went places...I litterly grew up with John's vids
I remember being younger, and when the movie was coming out, I had a huge goosebumps phase. One day I decided to watch this series, and it scared me so badly that it was the first thing to ever keep me up at night. I don’t know what it was, maybe it was the uncanny graphics, the point and click gameplay, the eerie music, or maybe because it was my first ever time being exposed to jumpscares consistently. I remember that I was so scared that I didn’t even watch the last video until years later, but now that I’m older, I find these videos freaking hilarious and extremely entertaining.
Literally this was the first vid I watched as a kid that made me WANT the game… I got the game back when the switch first came out and I never stopped playing it! Such a good game… I’m still trying to get in the shed at the school.
huge wave of nostalgia after looking this up bro. this is crazy work. i genuinely read almost all the books and this game was so cool. sadly never got to play it. buh imma soon jus to relive it again
When I was a kid, I was really into these books. So much so that I asked for a Charlie McCarthy dummy for Xmas. Worst idea ever. I got one and he sat in my room and scared me shitless on so many nights.
Goosebumps is the reason I got into reading. Now I have about 50 of them. I will be forever thankful to R.L. Stine. And this game captures the atmosphere of the books pretty well.
Wayforward is more known for their own titles Shantae and Mighty Switch Force. I'm not sure if I'd call them an indie company, but they are somewhere in that realm. Actually, it was people who branched out from Wayforward that eventually became the team that made Shovel Knight! Not going to say this looks like their strongest work so far. Might just be something they've done on the side while they work on Shantae Half-Genie Hero. It's still enjoyable so far though, I'll be watching it.
I've played this game and 100%'d it and didn't think it was great, but I think it's so cute and nice how excited you're getting playing it. One of my favourites from you.
lol loved the choose your adventure types of goosebumps book, of course it took me forever to find the right way though the ones i read. The wax museum one was probably my favorite
"Double dragon neon..which was alright." I mean, the MUSIC in double dragons Neon was amazing. The gameplay was VERY basic but servicable for a good 2-3 hour co-op romp with a friend locally.
As a kid I really enjoyed It came from Beneath the Sink (I have a fear of pipes so it was super scary as a kid) and Revenge of the Lawn Gnomes. As a kid I read the gnome one because I thought it would be like David the Gnome coming to life.
Yes, your lack of concern, because I felt it was really rude with no cause. You are still rude but at least you have a reason now. Also I'm not an idiot and I tend to use words that I understand the definition for.
+Natalie Payet I did not use the word incorrectly. Just because you found it funny doesn't mean it's not offensive to other people. You were rude and continue to be rude. Then you tell me to back to tumblr. I've never been on tumblr. You think I should be there because I took offense at you being rude? How strange to take offense at some stranger's terrible manners. How dare I! It must mean I'm just an emotional crazy person right? Because no one should be offended when someone makes crass remarks about a real phobia. I'm just the worst aren't I?
+Natalie Payet Wow, you just dropped your argument straight into the shitter. Phobias are very real and not something to laugh about, they can very negatively impact a person's life.
I love it, this is an ultimate TH-camr’s play through. *He’s either excited for references as a GB fan, trying to make adult humor, or he’s just too serious about how FNAF-level spooky this game is 😂*
I miss these books, and the stuff on tv (can't remember if it was a movie or series). They were pretty scary, honestly. Something you'd expect from a well-designed haunted house.
Though I never read the Goosebumps books, I read Blogger Beware and saw all of the TV series recently, so I'm pretty knowledgeable about the lore. I gave this to my friend to blindstream a while ago, and we were both incredibly impressed with how good it was. I'm not kidding, these game creators really put in a ton of references, enjoyable writing, and some great scenarios overall. It was a pleasant surprise to us. Glad to see you've done a playthrough of it! =)
Have you heard about Goosebumps: Escape from Horrorland game? It's very interesting and I would love to see you play it of your ever able to find it/have something to play it on. (I have never played it, but I saw a walkthrough on TH-cam before and it looks pretty cool for a kind of old game(I think it was made in the 1990's or something)
Ah Goosebumps, I have/had (we had to move so no idea if they're not gone) some of the books and this exact game (still). My childhood growing up, it's always been strangely comforting. My favorite book is ironically Werewolf of Fever Swamp.
Fifi is from the Give Yourself Goosebumps book: Please Don't Feed The Vampire. It was the very first Goosebumps book I ever read in elementary school, and I STILL LOVE the series to death. Being 23 hasn't lessened my love for R.L. Stine's work. HUGE fangirl. Both me and my boyfriend love the Goosebumps series. I've started collecting them actually, and I'm still trying to find as many as I can. GOD I WISH I COULD GO BACK TO THE 90'S SO BADLY!!! Goosebumps made my childhood awesome.
Sure did, Monster Blood IV was Goosebumps #62, the last one in the main series. Also one of the worst books in the series, IMO, but Stine probably just decided to have fun it considering it was the last.
I know I'm so late but I wanted to point out how you can clearly see the excitement John shows while playing this game and I'm living for it.

@Citrus 17
ill never forget the weird feeling this game gave me as a kid
Wow! I don't think I've ever seen John look so excited!
I seem to be the only person who actually loved the ending to Calling All Creeps....
+The 13th Earl I like it now, but at the time when I was a kid it was Super WTF
+HarshlyCritical When I was younger, I absolutely loved it, to the point where it was probably my favourite. It probably says a lot about me really....
+HarshlyCritical the dog Fido is from give yourself goosebumps: don't feed the vampire
I thought I was the only one who got nostalgic for this series
My dad making me watch hell raiser and chain saw massacre when I was 5 got me into everything horror
I used to watch horror movies with my dad as a kid too.
SpaceClown404 watching scary show at 5 years old with your dad and you didn't get nightmares what was your dad thinking?
+Annalise Catenacci - A competent parent knows when their child is old enough to do such things, usually once they can disconnect reality and fiction. I watched the Alien movies and some of the more standard classic 80's horror films at that age and I didn't turn into a mass murderer or babbling psycho. You just have to be aware of when your child is old enough for THEM specifically.
Aw you missed Amaz-O's hat in the van, you can give him that for an achievement. Still it's fun to see someone else play this. I enjoyed this game.
I was never really into Goosebumps, but man do I love to watch HarshlyCritical play these games XD
Dude i remember watching this series when i was younger. Man this brings back memories
I have recently found you because of resident evil. I'm so excited to see this game. Goosebumps and are you afraid of the dark are the reasons I grew to love horror. I'm excited to binge your content!
I think we need a adult rated remake of Goosebumps, with all the scariest spookypastas of the modern age
JoyDeparted R.L. Stine wrote some horror books for adults, too.
And the return of the Goldblum Dracula. 😂
And a good goosebumps game where you can walk around and interact with things
Except creepypastas are literally only scary if you're 10-12 years old, so making it adult would be impossible.
@@jdwii ^^ What he said
I guess John's feeling a bit, HarshlyNostalgical.
+Gnurt You just had to ruin the fun, didn't you?
Gnurt Alright man, it's cool.
If he feels nostalgic and is a critic does that make him the Nostalgia Critic? No...? Ok.
+Gnurt oh shit dude
+Gnurt Your face is not a word.
This is one of the most nostalgic videos ever for me
I remember watching John's first vids like bo2 and so many other things the old days were the best I would just sit in my car seat and watch him all day when I went places...I litterly grew up with John's vids
I've watched this series like 4 times already
The Face of his first death: Priceless!
Is that A Silent Hill reference? "Have you seen this dog, Short Brown fur, about seven years old?" That sounds oddly similar to Harry's catchphrase
This was my childhood this vid!!! I love this
Literally this was the first vid I watched as a kid that made me WANT the game… I got the game back when the switch first came out and I never stopped playing it! Such a good game… I’m still trying to get in the shed at the school.
huge wave of nostalgia after looking this up bro. this is crazy work. i genuinely read almost all the books and this game was so cool. sadly never got to play it. buh imma soon jus to relive it again
This is just so nostalgic. I remember watching this many years back.
When I was a kid, I was really into these books. So much so that I asked for a Charlie McCarthy dummy for Xmas. Worst idea ever. I got one and he sat in my room and scared me shitless on so many nights.
This plays like one of the educational point and click computer games they tried to make me play in the 90s.
Goosebumps is the reason I got into reading. Now I have about 50 of them. I will be forever thankful to R.L. Stine. And this game captures the atmosphere of the books pretty well.
The Scarecrow walks at Midnight was my fave of the Goosebumps
Samee
I used to watch this 5 years ago and I just wanted to come back to see the old days
with a running start you dove into the big black hole.
Damn man that kid is hardcore even though he just died...

So he'll stop before being nosy... but not before stealing stuff from the moving van?
VampiricDarkDragon
I have watched this more than 20 times but still find this game with you so entertaining to watch 🤩🤩
it's been months since these vids but I still think it's my favorite series you've done. rewatching again & i love it
Wayforward is more known for their own titles Shantae and Mighty Switch Force.
They're piggybacking with Nintendo a bit now, tbh.
Are a boy
+J Amundsen they also made that great new double dragon neon game
i love how the character is too good to open the boxes while looting the van hahaha
My freaking childhood :-)
This is skyrim not oblivion. Majic the lier is better than u

YouTurd I got into Goosebumps in elementary school, and Please Don't Feed The Vampire was my very first book from the school library.
@@MsMebeashley By Azura, by Azura!
I've played this game and 100%'d it and didn't think it was great, but I think it's so cute and nice how excited you're getting playing it. One of my favourites from you.
8:29 Game: "The only thing more permanent than tattoos are stickers."
John: *Carefully determines the validity of the statement.*
Viewer beware: you're in for a scare! Total TV show reference!
This is the first video I have seen you. I am surprised I remember everything.
lol loved the choose your adventure types of goosebumps book, of course it took me forever to find the right way though the ones i read. The wax museum one was probably my favorite
I’ve watched this video many times years ago, it’s time for the journey again!
It was scary and it’s still pretty scary
"Double dragon neon..which was alright."
I mean, the MUSIC in double dragons Neon was amazing.
Yes, thank you, I will.
+Natalie Payet Wow, you just dropped your argument straight into the shitter. Phobias are very real and not something to laugh about, they can very negatively impact a person's life.
TIL the speaker/writer bears no responsibility for what they say or write. Nice etiquette.
I like your slappy voice, it's good!
I love your channel and this is so nostalgic, my brother and I had loads of the goosebumps books. We used to watch the TV series as well.
I love it, this is an ultimate TH-camr’s play through.
*He’s either excited for references as a GB fan, trying to make adult humor, or he’s just too serious about how FNAF-level spooky this game is 😂*
Calling All Creeps and The Day I Learned to Fly were my favorites because they both had twisted yet happy endings to them
I recognized most of the books that you mentioned in the intro. Those were great books. One of my favorites is "Say Cheese and Die".
Scrotum Sandwich dgc
I miss these books, and the stuff on tv (can't remember if it was a movie or series). They were pretty scary, honestly. Something you'd expect from a well-designed haunted house.
Flashback: they’re still on the plane
*cries in Johnwolfe*
seeing all these comments refer to you as "harshlycritical" brings back such a amazing feeling for me
Though I never read the Goosebumps books, I read Blogger Beware and saw all of the TV series recently, so I'm pretty knowledgeable about the lore. =)
I was more of an Are You Afraid of the Dark?, than a Goosebumps.
Yes definately!
Tales from the crypt
The Haunting Hour dude all the way!
NOPE ITS GOOSEBUMPS IT HAS LAWN GNOMES MONSTR BLOOD IT HAS THE TREE MAN FROM STAY OUT OF THE BASMENT ITS GOOSEBUMPS
this video is pure nostalgia for me I watched it when I was a kid and I did not understand somethings that harshly critical aka John Wolfe said. XDXD
I love Goosebumps - I'm so glad you're playing this. But John... you died in first 15 minutes! Only you. But it made me laugh.
MY FAVORITE childhood series. I can't believe I am just finding out about this game in 2021 lol
John trying to keep up with the fast scrolling dialogue makes me wheeze
God it’s been years but he’s still good
Have you heard about Goosebumps: Escape from Horrorland game? It's very interesting and I would love to see you play it of your ever able to find it/have something to play it on. (I have never played it, but I saw a walkthrough on TH-cam before and it looks pretty cool for a kind of old game(I think it was made in the 1990's or something)
This was the first John video I watched :^)
Same I was 7 when this came out
This was also my first video I watch of John
Ah Goosebumps, I have/had (we had to move so no idea if they're not gone) some of the books and this exact game (still). My childhood growing up, it's always been strangely comforting. My favorite book is ironically Werewolf of Fever Swamp.
Hey John! I grew up with Goosebumps and also loved it, it was like Twilight Zone for kids kind of. They were great and the films were creepy as hell.
This is such a comfy playthrough!
exactly
i love goosebumps i watched all the episodes and read alot of the books and i loved the movie. i like the choose your own ending books
Who else watches this play through only when it’s dark and rainy too? ✋
I LOVE GOOSEBUMPS. Goosebumps is something that got me into literature, led me into majoring certain language in uni.
I remember I downloaded this game, and I was stuck on a certain part. So, I looked up how to play it, and found you. Oh my god, I am so glad I did.
Who else is watching in 2020 I watched this ages ago and I miss this 🥺❤️
I just discovered John and decided to check out some of his videos I found this playlist and got hyped!
I loved watching this show and reading the books when I was young... anyone even remember the show "Round The Twist"
Yea loved it and "Eerie, Indiana"
John Fifi is from the book " Don't Feed The Vampire"
I love goosebumps, the memories from reading the books and watching the show.
I watched this and got spooped. Send help and tacos.
Liesmith *sends 100$ and tacos*
I'm not spooped but can I still have 100$ Brandi
LOL!!!!
We ran out of tacos but here is a burg🍔
woohoo i had my new curse of the mummy's tomb on hand while watching this
ALL THE REFERENCES TO MY CHILDHOOD
I watched these a lot as a kid, good times
Fifi is from the Give Yourself Goosebumps book: Please Don't Feed The Vampire. It was the very first Goosebumps book I ever read in elementary school, and I STILL LOVE the series to death. Being 23 hasn't lessened my love for R.L. Stine's work. HUGE fangirl. Both me and my boyfriend love the Goosebumps series. I've started collecting them actually, and I'm still trying to find as many as I can. GOD I WISH I COULD GO BACK TO THE 90'S SO BADLY!!! Goosebumps made my childhood awesome.
He wrote a fourth monster blood book?
Sure did, Monster Blood IV was Goosebumps #62, the last one in the main series. Also one of the worst books in the series, IMO, but Stine probably just decided to have fun it considering it was the last.
