Still earned an important place in the history of American music with his wonderfully melodic and harmonic creations. He was also a top flight orchestrator. His music is both strong and attractive.
WGS is far and away our favourite amongst those African-American composers [including Ulysses Kay and Howard Swanson, et al.] who enriched our symphonic repertoire in the 20th-century. Long may their inspired music be remembered.
What a beautiful brain William Grant had! I really enjoyed this one. Its narrated that his 1st marriage ended in 1939 and his second marriage was is the same year, what a fox. Thanks JDW!
