WGS is far and away our favourite amongst those African-American composers [including Ulysses Kay and Howard Swanson, et al.] who enriched our symphonic repertoire in the 20th-century. Long may their inspired music be remembered.

Bravo!!! Excellent arrangement and amazing execution! I can't explain _exactly_ why, but measures 77-83 (the octaves) just speak to me. That's my favorite passage, with one exception... That ending was freaking amazeballs!!!

I have been blessed by such an account of this great black composer ,who lifted the colored man out of the slums of being labelled as less and unfit to be amongst those deemed as being above the black man in refined music or classical music. BRAVO. ! All men were created in the image of GOD. !

I really admire Julia Perry. For examples of modern music in a dance composition class, I played her music for the group.

I first heard of story of Samuel Coleridge Taylor from W.E.B Du Bois book Darkwater, he was a voice of the disenfranchised and an activist in his own way. Unbelievable man!

That's her music in the background? ... REALLY creative ... you explained it well, the blending of styles. Clever but also convincing: sounds obvious that this SHOULD be the end result.
