This is a very entertaining way of world building a location! A little context before I start. The Charlotta is a gigantic tower in the centre of the city of Katon. It's the political, cultural, and financial hub of the city. Anyone who's anyone has some form of presence on one of the many floors. But Katon has also seen better days, its influence has waned over the region in recent decades. anyhoo... -------------------------------------------------------------- Story one - Grotesques: Perched on the north side of the Charlotta, about midway up, are two grotesques. Each would claim (if anybody had ever thought to ask them) that they had developed more aesthetic faults than the other. Watching over the city below for centuries, the pair have seen their fair share of storms, freezes, and acts of malicious masonry. “I got chunks out of me, all up me left haunch!” One would decry “At least you can see your haunches, mine have been covered in moss for decades!” The other would retort. “Well, at least you didn’t have your ear ripped clear off by that idiot who fell from the top floor” “He was aiming for me! You distracted him!” "Sure, just like you got that wren to nest on you last year. When I’d been chatting her up for weeks!” The pair are interrupted by a voice, muffled by water and unintelligible “Bloody Gargoyles, think they’re so special” “ooh, look at me, I’m a necessary drainage function” In unison “Twats” --------------------------------- Story two - Thin Lips, Thin Hair, Thin Frame: No one could recall a time when she hadn't been sat at her desk in the entrance hall, no one could recall hiring her. I have bad news: I've got nothing published yet! But I've been working on it for the past 4 years. I'm doing this as fast as I can - but it is a remarkably slow process. One location (in the anthologies it's a city, here a single shop) with many stories centered around the given space. All different people, factions, motives, means and ways but one central place.
Uffff Daedalus, this one's a hard one - I'm familiar with the Akuma no mi and I think it's a wonderful piece of worldbuilding. But writing about One Piece would require me to watch One Piece and.... wow... the size of it... it's really intimidating!
Alright, gonna make a hyper-pedantic nerd comment: The cityscape shown on the video thumbnail is *not* of Ankh-Morpork. This illustration is a scene from -Faust- Eric, where Rincewind ends up being summoned (after being stuck in the dungeon dimensions for quite some time following the ending of Sourcery) by a fledgling demologist. The demonologist, one Eric Thursley, introduces himself with his full home address and that address is actually a place in Pseudopolis, another discworld city which, whilst occasionally referenced in passing, is basically never described in detail. The scene of the thumbnail happens shortly after Rincewind is summoned, with Eric (still thinking he had summoned a powerful demon) demanding that he be given rule over the whole world. Rincewind, trying to make a point about how he can't just snap his fingers and... well, he snaps his fingers, causing him, Eric and the Luggage to be sent on a sort of magical journey where all of Erics demands are met, but all of them in a monkey's paws kind of way. The scene on the thumbnail depicts the beginning of that journey where Rincewind, Eric and the Luggage are whisked away into space (after all, you'd wanna get a good view of the world before becoming the ruler of it). You can even see Eric in the picture, clinging to the Luggage. So yeah, you inadvertedly chose like the one Josh Kirby Discworld illustration that shows a cityscape that isn't Ankh-Morpork for once as the thumbnail of a video where you talk about Ankh-Morpork.
Good eye! I actually don't know, it was just a room that I was renting temporarily and it came with all the furnishing and decoration from the original renter (who was overseas at the time)
