For me personally though it is an OK episode but not particularly memorable one.
You'd think that people who worked with Columbo would know how canny he is. Before these two I was thinking that an innocent suspect might ask his lawyer if he should hire a P.I. with this "bumbler" investigating, and get the response that Columbo's the most brilliant at handling the "clever" murders.
Columbo on NBC from 1971 - 1978 and then Columbo in ABC from 1989 until around 1991 was the best. For me from when they aired "No Time To Die" in 1992, where there was no murder, and was very very dark in tone, this was the point where Columbo nose dived in quality.
The way Pat talks to Columbo reminds me so much of Gowron talking to a Pakled trader in the game Star Trek: Klingon, kind of talking down to him like he's not very smart, except in Columbo's case, he is smart... :P
Interesting that in most murders Lt Columbo solves we know that he's on to the suspect when he almost leaves but returns to the killer and says, "Just one more thing". However in this show it is not the case. He's clueless as to Andy's gulit. His return to the meeting with Andy done purely for theatrical reasons involved in the plot. To get OUR attention he says to Andy, "Just one more thing..." Of course in real life the following meeting (next scene after this one with wife, Andy and Columbo) in the restaurant would NEVER have taken place The wife would immediately have "lawyered up" and not consented to meet with the police at all. In fact this is true of probably all Columbo shows. Had the killer just STFU and said, "I'm innocent! Go speak to my attorney". A real life suspect would probably have beaten the charges. This is most evident in the early 1970s episode featuring Dick Van Dyke titled, "Negative Reaction". The suspect incriminates himself. Every good crook should learn a lesson or two from Lieutenant Columbo. "Never speak to the police".
@@amina-pr8xt Yes. However in the Columbo series the villain is usually from the upper strata of society. A person feeling in complete control of all details. I know it’s irrelevant to the story, but the distances between the X’s on the map that Columbo reported are way off. I live in the LA area and this map shows the area north of the LAX airport. The first X is near Marina del Rey and the second X is south of where the 10 and 405 cross. That’s about a mile apart, not 5 miles. This guy: y e s I a g r e e
So great episode
The way Pat talks to Columbo reminds me so much of Gowron talking to a Pakled trader in the game Star Trek: Klingon, kind of talking down to him like he's not very smart, except in Columbo's case, he is smart... :P
Please bring back the columbo movie's.
I can't tell if the Anthony Hopkins doppleganger is purposefully playing this scene to look disingenuous or is bad at acting.
Wow All these yrs watching columbo and episodes a million times over I never caught that 😂 I'm seriously disappointed in myself
I just want to see the arrest, not the build up to it.
Uploaded full episodes please
everyone in this show talks like they 100% did it. including columbo himself.
What was the name of this episode?? Great stuff 👏.
A Trace of Murder
Interesting that in most murders Lt Columbo solves we know that he's on to the suspect when he almost leaves but returns to the killer and says,
"Just one more thing".
However in this show it is not the case. He's clueless as to Andy's gulit. His return to the meeting with Andy done purely for theatrical reasons involved in the plot. To get OUR attention he says to Andy,
"Just one more thing..."
Of course in real life the following meeting (next scene after this one with wife, Andy and Columbo) in the restaurant would NEVER have taken place
The wife would immediately have "lawyered up" and not consented to meet with the police at all. In fact this is true of probably all Columbo shows. Had the killer just STFU and said,
"I'm innocent! Go speak to my attorney".
A real life suspect would probably have beaten the charges. This is most evident in the early 1970s episode featuring Dick Van Dyke titled,
"Negative Reaction".
The suspect incriminates himself. Every good crook should learn a lesson or two from Lieutenant Columbo.
"Never speak to the police".
Finally, someone observes that too... Most villains wouldnt give up so easily, but rely on their expensive lawyer

Yes. However in the Columbo series the villain is usually from the upper strata of society. A person feeling in complete control of all details.
But by underestimating Columbo the bad guy sinks his own ship. His EGO is his downfall. When Columbo flatters the suspect it is done just stroke that ego. But it's only to trip him up in the end.
@@jorgecallico9177 Not "however". Because they are rich, they can afford an expensive lawyer. Beside that, your analysis is correct. But: Most of these murderers wouldnt give up when Columbo "convicted" them.
If Columbo is explaining the case to you, it's not good for your long term prospects.
"Three eyes are better than one". 😉
i got the dvd set but here it is season 12.
I dunno
oh !!! a different one !! good one from the 80's/90's!! cool!!
Three eyes is better than one… haha !
Yes Patrick, my one-eyed man is a tiger and you goin down buddy.
Man, Columbo and Sledgehammer!
The glass eye is cannon confirmed!
Whats with the lab echo??
I know it’s irrelevant to the story, but the distances between the X’s on the map that Columbo reported are way off. I live in the LA area and this map shows the area north of the LAX airport. The first X is near Marina del Rey and the second X is south of where the 10 and 405 cross. That’s about a mile apart, not 5 miles. The third X is near Pacific Palisades, about 4 or 5 miles from the second X, not 20 miles.
But I don't get it. At that time he wasn't a suspect at all, only got suspect after the 3 met each other
I never saw this one. Looks intriguing.
Love columbo
its a really good one. sadly cant find it online

Its on dailymotion in 2 parts, part 1 is the first 56 minutes or so and part 2 is the rest to the ending.
