This is part three of our KTM 690 & Husqvarna 701 complete engine rebuild. In this video, we dive into the bottom end of the engine and begin with the bottom end disassembly. The steps shown here will be very similar for other late model KTM 690 and Husqvarna 701 motorcycle models. Stay tuned for this series to see the complete engine disassembly and rebuild process.

Thank you for making this! My 690 LC4 decided to munch the main connecting rod bearing, and I'm just starting the teardown. Very, very helpful, and I'll be ordering parts soon. The level of detail here is outstanding, and will help a lot of people. This is my first KTM teardown, and doesn't look too too hard. Nice work and thanks again!
the most complete video about to disassembly and check a bottom end! thanks
Glad you liked the video! Thanks for checking it out!
this is why i love ktm so much super simple easy motors to take apart and rebuild, only motor i ever rebuilt in my life was my 09 ktm 530exc i did a full bottom and top rebuild and its been about 9k miles later and shes still running like a top, getting about time for another top end rebuild she consumes a bit more oil over time but its expected, i wondered how the lc4 looked and its very similar to the 530, my 530 motor was the one that had 2 seperate oil sumps one for gear one for crank but when i rebuilt mine i combined both sumps which helps tremendously prolong oil life and in my opinion is better on the crank it has more clean oil to use rather than the measly 600ml it had before, im hoping i wont ever have to crack open my 690 i plan to use 15w30 motul offroad we shall see how it goes ive heard good things about the new lc4's
I'm scared to open an engine up, I feel like I'll lose stuff, get frustrated because something won't come off and break it, leave it to cool off only to come back to a half done engine and not remember what step I was on or how things went together.
This happen to me making a lego star wars battle ship... where I got lost half way.
I ended up just using the pieces to make a shitty house for lego people...
@@oscarbear7498 With that doubt you (and me too BTW) are far better off shelling money to a pro....or maybe even better just trade in prior to getting to the point of a rebuild....life is too short to screw around and risk mechanical HELL! lol.....been there done that a few times! ....Gone are the good old days of air cooled 2 strokes that actually were almost pleasant to rebuild....
Great vid as are all from you guys. As I posted elsewhere. It’s like having a master tech checking my work in real time. I’ve put together a couple of motors now, using your vids as a guide. The detail verbal notes are great for double checking during the assembly/disassembly process. Never a concern that anything might be incorrect. Allows more time to think about minor improvements that help bulletproof already good machines. Thanks so much guys. Jakg Team Bengt Phorx
Hi thanks for their nice and simple videos ... I'm thinking of just replacing the crankshaft with the bearings on my 690. Can I split the box without disassembling all the gears on the right side.
Fantastic, thank you
Amazing series. Watching them 1 by 1. How many kms on that bike?
Hello, thanks for all of yours explicit videos! I just made an oil drain of my 690 smc 2011 and i find a piece of kind thooted ring on the drain plug. Do you have an idea what part of engin does it could be from ?
Yo you left the 5mm x 35mm bolts u used as a ktm tool inside the engine. What's up with that
Awesome vid
Great job Charles, thank you!
Hi, I hear that this motor is prone to cease due to oil starvation during very long wheelies. Is this true?
Up
If you look exactly underneath the C from from MC, you see a hole is that not the where the oil goes to the pump?
At 15:39
@@leau7732 not sure, but there are videos on YT of people pulling 6minutes + wheelies. If the engine doesn't cease in 6 minutes, I'm pretty sure it wont cease.
@@Gex121 i also own one and i noticed if i wheelie a long time my engine will make a weird noise like there is no oil pumping 'dry running', but i think if that was the case then my engine would explode a thousend times
When I tear an engine apart, wherever possible, I put the bolt back in the hole it came out of. Less to keep track of in the long run.
Great video just as the rest of the series! What kind of ‘special’ bolts are used to keep the clutch pack together? Looks like just regular m4/m5 bolts?
www.rockymountainatvmc.com/parts/ktm-clutch-holding-bolts-p I forgot what the thread size and pitch is, but we added these to our site just in case someone (you😅) needs them. I might have mentioned the pitch in the 690/701 clutch video. -Charles
The splines on my countershaft looks bad. So new shaft! But to get there... Everything needs to be taken apart! Bloody hell! Keep an eye on the sprocketnut folks!
Sorry my bad english. What is the flywheel puller size and the primer gear puller size in Metric?
The flywheel puller we used for this bike was a M33 x 1.5 and the primary gear puller should be a M36 x 1.5.
thank you (Y) @@rmatvmc
Hoy many miles of use before the rebuild?🧐
Hi..my question is...i have a problem in my bike....about box gear......the 1-3-5 speed gear no work..only 2-4-6 ...whatever i cannot to ride to the bike ...what could be the problem inside the box gear,?..thanks
Is there a Complete Engine Kit?
There is not a complete engine rebuild kit for these bikes that we're aware of. Many of the parts will need to be located in the OEM parts finder. The first link in the description will take you to a page with all the parts and tools we used.
Straight forward enough lol
