I am soccer player and these exercises are defo gonna be a part of my workout at the gym. Very good for athletes that needs a sudden change of direction. Great one Elliot!
amen. as a martial artist, I started with karate which focuses a lot on movements to the front(sagittal plane) later, I started training tai chi, which has multidimensional movements. bagua zhang (my personal favorite) has an incredible array of multidimensional movement patterns, designed to put power through the structure in all of the dimensions. being strong and having ease of movement in all dimensions is a key to lifelong athleticism. good video, thx.
When I watch old videos, like this, I am getting very sad about your new version. Please don't be angry, I know everyone can be what be want. But you truely helped me about sport and life and now watch you exhausted with katabasis? You are idol man, please don't lose your faith. Comeback video like this, we love you E.
Hey Elliot, at the university where I an interning as a strength coach, we do these and call them "wheel lunges" Same patterns with a few differences. On the stepback portion of the lunge, we actually do a crossover. And on the reverse 45 lunge, we turn and open up our hips
This is excellent. I currently have limited strength and flexibility (long story) but I am going to incorporate these as small, shallow movements in all three planes and gradually work into the full movements. Great video, well executed and explained. Thank you.
Thanks for the workout tips. I love workouts I can do anywhere. I know a mirror would help for initial positioning but any workout I can do without equipment that I can do anywhere are my favorite.
I have worked for about three years with the Silver Sneakers and it dawned on me that to stand up without that damn chair tied to my butt I would have to quit the Silver Sneakers. I did and I still can't stand the use of without anything around me. But videos like these of you are great for showing me what I need to do.
Very very helpful especially for basketball players just like me... I think just my opinion is that if you do have bad knees, just try this out with body weight first and then incorporate it to your regular leg day routine... Also, using a knee support can somehow make you feel comfortable with your knee too...
hello I've tried this today (leg day), ohhhh man that really works. I found out that my left leg is weaker than the right one when it comes to moving in a diagonal motion lunge. Thank you Elliot So Much.
Nsima Inyang "Movement that Matters" and "How to Eat, Move and Be Healthy." I think the latter one is superior, since it has a lot of information about health, nutrition and lifestyle besides exercises. HtEMBH is also constantly reprinted and some new information added. I have a reprtint from September 2013 and it is an eleventh reprint already
There's nothing sketch about the 45 degree lunge. If you feel as if you may injure yourself than its probably not the best idea to start with any weights or barbells, just do free-body lunges. The idea as explained in the video is to work every aspect of your muscles, not just thighs/quads.
Bryant Gauthier Yeah those 45 degree reps look like they could hurt! Especially if you're prone to injury, such as myself. I wonder if these multi-degree lunges can actually develop strength to help REDUCE chance to knee injury.
Yo Elliott! I've had tendinopathy/chronic tendinitis in my left distal biceps femoris insertion for over a year now (as a result of a 22 km run that I hadn't trained for). I've seen physios, done a bunch of exercises (calf raises, isometric hamstring curl holds etc etc) which relieve symptoms, but upon even a little exertion or not doing the exercises for a few days, the pain in my tendon comes back. Ultrasound didn't reveal any inflammation. I have a feeling that this is because of muscle imbalances in my legs - my left leg is a stronger and larger than the right (so is the rest of my body - the left is weaker than the right). I used to lift heavy a fair bit a few years back, but haven't lifted heavy for at least a couple of years now. I've started doing your upper body corrective stretches, but I was wondering whether you have any suggestions for lower body corrective stretches or anything that might cure this chronic tendinitis. By the way, massive fan, been watching your videos for years, you've helped me through a lot!! Cheers, Mahakaran
Much needed exercises, since I only have free weights for leg exercises. 1. Do you know any free weight exercises for hamstrings other than the medicine ball one you showed us before? 2. When I used to do machine leg squats I used to lose my first quick step for basketball. In fact any machine exercise for my legs used to destroy my quickness. Do you have any thoughts on that? Thanks.
I watched this last night at work. There isn't a barbell there so I thought that I would just perform the pattern the dance so to speak. There wasn't much room to move so I wasn't even taking very big steps. I did a couple of rounds empty handed and noticed later that I tweaked something. I looked it up on a gross anatomy chart at wiki and identified it was an ass muscle that I pulled. I managed to sleep it off and work out today but it came back a little. That's probably what happens when you get this memo at 56 years old. I'm going to continue to do this empty handed for awhile and then work up to little dumbbells
I got over that bout. I've been working out like a maniac since 1991. I was 31 then. I started lifting the summer of 2015 though. It's all because of this guy. The only four exercises you need to grow stronger is what inspired me. I can do this exercise now. Piece o cake.
Just found out about you on here. Love your videos. You seem very down to earth and legit. And you know your stuff. Keep up the good work! Please don't become a six pack sellout lol. Thanks again for all the tips. Appreciate it.
been waiting for a good video. Good shit. I've definitely been ignoring other planes because I'm trying to improve my sprint. I already know it will help.
I am soccer player and these exercises are defo gonna be a part of my workout at the gym. Very good for athletes that needs a sudden change of direction. Great one Elliot!
your building all kinds of performance capacity.. all kindzz
all the time
I see you watched athlean eh haha
Tried it yesterday, it sucks. But the excersizes that suck are the ones that get you stronger 👍
More videos like this. Helpful, short, direct and practical.
this is excellent. gonna try this tomorrow.

Awesome. Looks like a great workout for athletes as well, especially for sports involving cutting and planting your feet at all types of angles.
Going to add this in my training for sure.
This is excellent, and I'm glad to see you releaved. Closing the yo elliott series really did you well, I'm happy for you!

these are great!
Digging these exercises, great for lateral movement in any kind of athletics.
Just started this after watching this video, feel sore in a new way which I haven't felt in a while. Thanks elliot!
Another good one, especially for a cool down or warm up, is a weighted cossack squat.
did this yesterday! feeling it today
Completely forgot about doing these, thanks for the reminder I'm definitely going to add this to my leg workout from now on!
Didn't see this before. Might give it a try.
Definitely doing this in my next lower body workout.
This is excellent. I currently have limited strength and flexibility (long story) but I am going to incorporate these as small, shallow movements in all three planes and gradually work into the full movements. Great video, well executed and explained. Thank you.
I always used these as a warm down as they give you a great stretch
I love this thank you. Leg day tomorrow....I will be doing these moves!!!!

What would be a good set rep scheme for somebody trying to train for sports performance and strength?
Such a good idea, why did I never think of this!
Definitely incorporating this into my leg workout today. Thanks Elliott! 😊
Thanks Elliott, I'll be tyring this out!
Great exercise! I did 4 sets of 8 with a weighted vest. Pretty sore in the next 48 hrs. Awesome!

Huge help. Many thanks.

Great video elliot as usual, and there was a good DONE! At the end.

Elliott loves him some structural integrity! More videos like this!

This is an awesome video! Can you do one on the upper body?
Excellent Video!
This exercise is also demonstrated in Paul Chek's book.
No wonder, Paul Chek is Elliott's mentor :)
which book is it?
Nsima Inyang

Ya I read about it in "How to Eat, Move and Be Healthy."
Thanks Elliot, everyday I am building a stronger version of myself. You're kinda like my spirit guide always helping me along the journey. :)
This is fantastic!
The 45 degre lundge seem pretty sketch, I'll try it tho.

Hope you do a whole series based on this "Strength & Structure" theme for the whole body.
Got legs day today. Will give it a go
Thank you

wow, side step leg positioning reminds me of a yoga pose; but yeah you are right it does astheticly work your muscles out.
Yo Elliott!

I have a dream - to see Elliot at at least 8% body-fat
Why does your dream involve someone else doing something?
57worldwide i dream of things i can't control, cause the things i can control - i make them happen
Robert Butacu Nice!
Thx Elliot! Done.
this is so awesome, would love to incorporate this on my squat day but what if you have terrible balance/flexibility for lunges due to a past injury?
Yo Elliot, I think your legs can speak
Elliott, you friggin rock
Nice thanks Elliot

Stiff legged deadlifts are good with dumbbells mate
Great video.
Awesome was thinking about something like this! thanks for the upload
Great video!
Gotta say Elliot, your really starting to get lean again. Keep up the good work dude!
So many people don't drop their back leg deep like this guy. They sink over their front knee. Gonna try these tomorrow with kettles😎👍👍
please write a book!
Elliot can rock short shorts

andrew james awesome!
I appreciate that this is clearly a great exercise and as always Elliot's advice is sound but this exercise is a little to complex for me.
Just found out about you on here. Love your videos. You seem very down to earth and legit. And you know your stuff. Keep up the good work! Please don't become a six pack sellout lol. Thanks again for all the tips. Appreciate it.
damn Elliott has Legs like a TANK. Incredible.
Mad exercise!! Guna include it on my leg day shot bro
