Bro if Bill and Ted actually had to come from the future to save someone important from the past. It would be them. Legit they are saving humanity the most of anyone.
This couldn’t have come at a better time. As a tennis coach, my left knee has been wearing down and down until a point where I just can’t imagine recovering. These exercises give me new hope. Thank you, Squat University!
Just don't forget supplementation as well - collagen hydrolysate and glucosamine to help cartilage by providing building blocks and signals to regenerate, and oral hyaluronic acid for better lubrication. And, as a secret tip, taurine, because that'll work against inflammation in the synovial lining.
I heard from a doctor that to avoid knee pain, you have to get flexibility and strength. But the most important ist flexibility and it's faster to achieve. I hope i write it correctly 😅
So how did you get to full range of motion? This is my issue. Not sure if pushing to full range of motion through pain is good or bad. PTs tell you all kinds of different things so it seems I have to figure it out myself. One thing is for sure: when I do glute bridges religiously my knees feel better, all things being equal.
Glad to see ive been strengthening my knees without noticing, I've just been focusing on unilateral leg exercises since i do martial arts and they made more sense for in my mind since kicking is *pretty* unilateral lol
Amazing, thanks a lot! I started getting not a pain but a weird feeling in my knees and I noticed that flexiing my quards helped but doing a pistol squad improved it even more - gonna try to slowly incorporate it into my workout and see gow i feel.
Aaron you are THE BEST . I use your tips and trainings with my patients on daily basis . All the things you recommend are so effective. Best Regards from Croatia.
This content is priceless. These are all super tough for me. L5-S1 fusion a few years back has really put a new focus on my knee weakness and has revealed a lot of pain in both knees. I really hope this work can relieve some of the constant pain.
I wish i could have this guy as my trainer! I have several issues from crazy training i did years ago in Spartan training but have no idea how to address them. This channel has been valuable
Thank you for you videos! They are always so helpful. I would like to ask if you could create a video about what causes TFL pain and how to solve it. It would be very much appreciated!
This is *phenomenal* advice! Hip instability/weakness has been affecting my feet for running, AND lateral/rotational motion is something I'm *always* harping on for my "battlefield sport" (LARP). 😁 Really topnotch insight! Thank you!!
thank you very much for these advices ! I'm in the middle of a squat training block and my knees hurts, so i think i'm going to add these to my squat workout
In the crusty, my knees feel torqued...should I not do those? Don't want to cause more pain, or push through the pain and train with compensation. Thank you for your channel. Safe, easy to follow.
Did it really? I took a week off lower body to allow my knees to recover and looking forward to strictly doing these for legs and hip exercises for the next few weeks.
I’ve got one for you: whenever I do any split style squat or lunge, I get a sharp, hot pain at the end of my tailbone. It’s debilitating the moment it happens. I even got it once correcting my spine in the middle of a heavy military press. I know it’s impossible to diagnose without seeing me move, but is this something you’ve heard of. I’m an athletic, healthy, 35 year old who’s played sports my whole life (for context). I have some single leg stability issues due to a torn ankle a year ago and plantar fasciitis that I’m trying to strengthen. I’m worried it’s going to get worse over time and I’m hoping I can prevent that. If you request, I can take some videos.
Interesting on the curtsy squat as I’ve been using weight on either side, plus having the leg pretty straight. Will certainly look into changing that over my work outs.
These are 3 great exercises. I would suggest learning the movement patterns without any extra weight first. Especially the second and the third one because the foot positioning here is trickier than it seems.
GREAT VIDEO! Thank You so much for taking the time to do it and share it. Can You please tell me where did You get the bench You use in the video? Many thanks and PLEASE stay healthy and safe out there.
i am at a point that i cannot make a single squat without pain or cumulative damage both are very small but add and add slowly. the only exercise i do that helps are laying flat straight leg raises with weight, so i get stronger muscle without flexing the knee
Hi! I love watching your videos and I’ve been using some of your tips to help me squat! A couple days ago a car door closed on my knee (not extremely hard but enough to cause pain) and I thought it was fine because I was able to go to the gym for the next two days after that fine. Today, I was going again because it’s my full body day and after I finished warming up and moved to stand, my knee hurt really bad. I’m not sure if I stood up incorrectly but this has never happened before. After trying to squat I couldn’t because my knee felt extremely stiff and hurt once I sank into the squat. I’ve been making really good progress with my squats and Im worried this will set me back. Do you have any advice on what I can do?
I like adding clams and some type of pure hip ABD to ensure there is no compensation when working those muscles. Also sometimes have success with ankle ev/inv, since sometimes balance is decreased on the affect leg and drives knee position. Also, don’t forget about shoe wear.
Thanks for the amazing video, man ! Do you have any video suggestion for strengthening against movements that change direction, such as those that occur in tennis matches?
Part of my left meniscus had to be removed because it was completely torn apart and I am starting to feel the same pains before I went to the doctor's for it in my right knee. I am hypermobile, which means as I understand it that my joints are inherently more unstable due to more collagen than usual. I am hence very wary of exercises for knees so would these work for a hypermobile disposition? I had issues with curtsy squats/squats in the past but I don't want to "not" train my legs! They are my favourite part to train 😅
Abduction. Abduction is probably the root cause for a lot of people. Fire hydrants are excellent for this. Doing fire hydrants while standing and holding onto something was the greatest exercise I have done for my knees. Good luck trying to figure out what helps with knee pain!
Please Doc can you tell me how I can find your videos on knee problems? Do I have to read the title on each one of them or is there another way? I have a lot of knee pain, I’m very young and I did not injured myself but I can’t even walk it’s too painful. Please reply!!!!!🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Does all of this apply to someone with arthritis? I’m 30 years old with near bone on bone arthritis in both knees. I can tolerate wide stance squats for about two sets, but the closer my stance the more miserable it is. Would love to see a video addressing arthritis that isn’t intended for elderly people.

Could you please make a video on scoliosis? What exercises for mild one? Is there a possibility to reverse it instead of just making sure it doesnt get worse?
I think there's value in doing deep dives into multiple subjects. However, I also appreciate S. Pressfields dream revelation summed up as "we do not respect dilettantes." If you have an interest, dive into it as far as you need, as long as it isn't completely detracting from your main goal. Yet goals change over time. Check boxes as if they're rungs to a higher level of your own potential. The only true end line is that which arrives in death.
Doc, I've been following u guys for years now, I live in Brazil and just please, read this and give me some light. I've been lifting for 10 years and found out I have FAI on my right side. What can I do? Is there anything? I've been losing hope cuz even after dozens of sessions of physiotherapy, I can barely squat without pain. My healthcare doesn't cover the surgery, just barely covered the physiotherapy sessions, and I don't have the money to do anything else. The last doctor I went to said I still have some cartilage, probably because I have very strong muscles, but my legs r shrinking, and all the dreams I have for bodybuilding r dying.
@squatuniversity, love your videos. Do you have strong feelings on using knee braces during these exercises? I've been getting stronger in my knees lately after doing balance exercises, but I still wear braces when doing squats with kettlebell and club. Sometime I wonder if I should be doing some without them
I like seeing your content, they are so helpful, is there any video for knee when after bending (bending part has no pain) when straightened it pinch , i cant figure why this happen n how to fix this, perhaps you can help ? Thank you
Great and valuable information.. knees ARE THE most important part.. and one should take care from the early stages.. By the way, what's with the INDIAN FLAG?? LOVE TO SEE IT THOUGH!!😍
Question: How would someone, who is already lifiting weights, integrate those exercises in his training when already doing other exercises like squats etc. without having to have a 4 hrs workout session?
Doing curtsey lunges or curtsey squats really cause a lot of instability and pain in my right knee (I have chronic tendonitis in one of my knees) and I also have a lot of bodyweight which makes the exercise uncomfortable to do. Any suggestions of alternatives or regressions?
