FORGOT to mention about the many jerks who wander to the front of the line pushing others out of the way. Happened to me and another relatively big guy standing next to me-- He actually called out the group of line cutters. He told them to apologize to people they bumped aside and basically walked over. He then in a forceful voice told them to go to the back go the line or he would take them to the back of the line. I told the guy I had his back but they quickly took off once the rest of the crowd turned on them too....

When lining up for the buffets, guests should have to grab a pair of clean gloves provided at buffet. No more ungloved hands touching the food! Then simply take off and throw away at end of buffet line. Always have to use clean new plate and clean new gloves.

Pay attention to the bells on the elevator. Usually it's one ring for 'up' and two rings for 'going down'.
That way you don't herd with the crowd at the sound of a bell.

Peggy - I use a mobility scooter & warn people that I’m not a good driver getting on & off elevators! I have come very close to running over some toes, especially the people who insist on standing directly in front of me when I exit the elevator! I only have a small area that I can fit through - whereas able bodied people can walk around me!

I've worked at assisted living homes where I've served in the dining rooms. Residents who regularly complain about the food or the facility are talked-to by the manager....and for good reason. The complaining can bring down the other residents and affect their appetites and thus their health. Complaining and disgruntled attitudes are contagious. Residents are given many other avenues to give their feedback, such as monthly resident meetings or daily visits to the tables by the chef. If one resident insists on constant complaining, they get a table...by themselves.

Enjoyable video. We’ve met everyone you mentioned on our cruises. We shared a dining table with couple who regularly ordered special salads and multiple appetizers, entrees and desserts. The food wasted was appalling and we skipped the several nights in the dining room to avoid it. We should have asked for a different table as you discussed in this video. Happy New Year. Looking forward to your videos in 2019!

On our last cruise to Ireland, we had a wonderful tour guide. He was very interesting to listen to until he says 'I know I'm not supposed to talk about politics ... ' then proceeded to bash a particular politician in our country. We went on a cruise to enjoy ourselves, don't assume everyone in the group hates the same guy you do, especially if you don't have your feet in the game (ie. not your country).

Yup! We quit using the main dining room, because we were seated with a gentleman (ahem!) who just had to spout off about everything he didn't like about the U.S. Really! I live in this dumpster fire shit show - I sure don't need somebody from Australia reminding me of all our shortcomings!

OMG Bruce! I just got off the Norwegian Bliss and we couldn't walk 5 feet without hearing someone complaining! It was ridiculous. My family and I thoroughly enjoyed the ship, the crew, the Cruise Director and staff, the amenities and entertainment. Were there things that can change? Sure! But am I going to let something trivial ruin my vacation? Absolutely not. Great video! Oh yeah... DON'T TOUCH THE FOOD! The only thing I would add to the list... wash your hands... often. It keeps you from getting sick and others too! Be kind... washy washy!

Great video. I've only ever been on one cruise in my life and I really enjoyed everything. I was surprised at the size of the pool, it was quite small with about a zillion lounge chairs all around the pool. And almost every lounge chair had a towel and maybe a library book on it. No actual person. Some lounge chairs sat like that for hours. People were off doing something else but saved their chair for later. And they'd obviously done this many times because they even had clips to hold the towels in place. Meanwhile people had to go up a deck to find an empty chair. Everyone complained about this. If no one is using the pool lounge chair for hours on end it should be ok to remove the beach towel and library book. Other than that the cruise was wonderful and we're saving for another cruise (it's expensive)

Excellent video as usual. I don't mean to complain but.. haha. We had one of those on our first cruise a table for 10 at sea day breakfast in the dining room. He went on and on how the ship was terrible and had gone down hill and on and on. I finally spoke up for our group of 4 and said hey this is our first cruise and could he please keep his comments to himself. Surprisingly the group he was with agreed with me and he shut up. Thank goodness. I loved the ship and went on it again.

Re elevator etiquette: Years ago, when I worked as a patient “runner” in a southern university hospital, I had to firmly ask Johnny Cash to please give my patient some room when we entered the elevator. Mr. Cash was profusely apologetic, and he helped hold the doors open when we got off. True story! (And yes, he wore black, and he was probably the tallest man I had ever seen at that time in my life.)

Another Elevator pet peeve is able bodied people using the elevator to go one flight up or down. Elevators are constantly bogged down on cruise ships because people are too lazy to use the stairs which are usually located near the elevators. Many times elderly or disabled people can’t access the elevators because they are so full. With all the food that is consumed on a cruise ship a good walk up or down the stairs is good for digestion!

  • @matthewhoffman9788

You nailed it Don! Agree with ALL of your Top Ten Things NOT to Do On A Cruise 2019! Elevator Buffoons, Buffet Line Food Handlers, and especially the "I never complain" constantly complaining about something cruise passengers are some of my pet peeves as well! People who use the SAME thongs to put EVERYTHING on their plate are just as ignorant and inconsiderate as well as the food handlers because they cross contaminate food without any thought of how they may be affecting their fellow shipmates who have food allergies and through no fault of their own may have a severe allergic reaction because of such a selfish behavior. Hope your Holidays were merry and bright. Wishing you a happy, healthy, and prosperous New Year filled with many new and exciting travel adventures!

We rarely take the elevators. You eat so much, even if you try not to, and taking the stairs at least burns off a few calories. Yes, the people who wine about everything, are toxic. Also, if you have issues on your cruise, talk to the pursers desk, in a calm voice. They do want to help make things right, and yelling at them isn't going to resolve things any faster.

  • @sarahphillips295
    @sarahphillips295 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Haha tell em Don. The cruise lines should pay you to teach courses in cruise passenger etiquette (aka common sense that eludes most people). I have several family members that don't even wear their wedding rings when they travel. This is something to think about because expensive (or even expensive-looking because thieves don't know real from fake) jewelry can make you a target. If you absolutely feel naked without one, plain gold bands are great for travel. They're very inexpensive, readily available and are far less conspicuous. Leave the big expensive rings and jewelry at home.

  • @mattcolver1
    @mattcolver1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The jewelry thing is always a concern. The best watch I have for in the water and snorkeling is a fairly expensive dive watch. So I wear it.
But I generally go to my shore excursion and then back on the ship. I don't go shopping and explore up dark alleys.
The elevator thing always pisses me off. I avoid the buffet as much as possible.
I've been on several cruises where they won't let you touch the food in the buffet and they have servers that put what you want on to your plate, even bread.

Husband and I witnessed passengers treating the staff rudely, saw one woman refuse to wash her hands before entering the windjammer. We expected to see the reserving of the deck chairs which is the norm for any cruise it seems. 😕

LOL!! OMG!! Shut up! Too funny. I've thought it, but never said it. Yes most of what you stated is common sense / courtesy. I feel that our society now a days is "all about me". So many places other than a cruise ship people are oblivious to their surroundings and just being polite. I just got back from the grocery store today and what utterly amazed that an older lady was apologizing for taking awhile to do what she was doing and the man that was waiting told her told her to just take as much time as you need. WOW! There's still some nice people out there. Thanks for sharing Don! Happy New Year to you!

There are a lot of mainland Chinese out there who would not use tongs on foods and touch it with their hands and cough without covering their mouths. My Chinese in-laws are like that. They are not taught any kind of etiquette. They also do not let others on the elevator get off, afraid of loosing their spot on the elevator. I told them to step aside for the people who needed to get off and to not worry because people will always hold the door for you. They are so attached to their ways it’s sad.

    Hi Don!
I think we were both on Queen Mary 2 on the same trip! I did see one person do as you described and duck the barrier rope to go on deck in what was Beaufort Scale 11 weather. Fortunately I spotted a crew member outside King's Court and told them and I think they alerted others who went out and got him.

I agree with all that. In a dozen cruises I have had two meals that were unacceptable. In those cases I tried to raise it queietly with the waiters to prevent upset. Despite my discretion the head waiter came to talk to me making it a bigger issue! I didn't ask for another meal, as the food was in the main restaurants with multiple choices elsewhere I wasn't going to faint from malnutrition! The most embarrassment was from dinners around us even though we were on a table for two.

The elevator bit happens on land too. It's extremely annoying. Actually, there's two things that everyone seems to forget to pack: COMMON SENSE and MANNERS! I know, it's inconvenient and extremely heavy to have to lug around 24/7. Besides, we're on vacation and you expect us to drag it with us here, too???!!!

Learned something though about the Camouflage Cargo pants. I don't wear them but didn't know at certain ports they are illegal
You saved the best violations for last - the complainers
I like Carnival Cruises new Open Dining option - you now can avoid being a captive audience sitting at the same designated dining table with a complainer (s)

Touching buffet food: a coworker of mine would routinely pick up, examine, and then return items from shared trays as she browsed for something that appealed to her. Another coworker would pick up an item, take a sniff, take a bite out of it, decide against it and return what was left to the shared tray. Yes, really.

Thank you again for another informative video. I truly enjoy all of them.
I think it would also be informative for you to do a video explaining what a passenger should do if they were to miss their ship after getting off at a port.
We all know it is the passengers responsibility to make their way back home or to the next port of call. However is there anyone from the cruise line at the port to assist them? Maybe help them access important documents they may need? Assist them with transportation to the next port? Things along those lines.
    Thank you again 😊😊😊

Right . . . along with everything required in the curriculum, be sure to have the teachers do more of the parenting responsibilities because the parents themselves can't be bothered to do their jobs. I guess if they don't get it at school, they won't get it anywhere. (SO happy we're retired!!!)

@@alittletexasingeorgia Good point, Jerry. I never knew any teachers personally in my 35 years who taught their own political beliefs and positions. The history,/social studies/civics teachers I knew taught more about political process and governmental structure of our country, comparing and contrasting with those of other countries. Regarding "politics" and the platforms of our major political parties, they were more concerned with trying to teach students to be well read and informed citizens who investigate the sources of information to determine accuracy and truthfulness of what they read, hear, etc., in order to make decisions about their own beliefs and positions regarding issues, political parties, and candidates. As an English teacher at the middle school level, I also tried to reinforce things such as evaluating the accuracy of information and sources to help students be better critical thinkers. Something else that is hard to teach is how to disagree with another person's viewpoint without being disagreeable and argumentative - - - remaining calm and showing respect for another person even when your opinions are opposite, and having discussions and debates where participants back up their assertions with factual information rather than hearsay and misinformation and/or becoming emotional, sarcastic, or belligerent when someone challenges your viewpoint. That's very difficult, as we see every day in the news and in our own encounters. Wow! I guess this isn't exactly about traveling and cruising, is it? Sorry about that! Anyway, I agree with Don's comments and observations and enjoy so much his unique humor and way of expressing himself about things that cruisers shouldn't do. Wishing everyone a Happy New Year, good health, and safe travels in 2019 and beyond! Don, feel free to delete this if I have gone too far off track! :)
