    Don't load your plate up at the buffet and then throw half of it away. I love cruising and the food is one of the highlights but the amount of waste disgusts me. You can always go back for more but you can't return uneaten food.

      04harleysoftail I totally agree with you. I hate to see people pile up their plate just because it’s included.

      I went on my first cruise and it was a family reunion cruise. It was carnival horizon. Mom and I ate lunch one day. A few people besides got 3 pieces of cake. They ate one bite of each cake but did not eat the whole cakes. The waiter said to us that in Germany they charge you for unfinished food. One of our excursions was supposed to be Jamaica and one night I got in the pool on one of the decks and a lady asked me if the water was heated and I said I wasn't sure and she said well it should be because we couldn't go to Jamaica because of the coronavirus.

    My advice as a licensed/clinical Cosmetologist be very picky and limited with what you're going to have done at the spa! I wouldn't do chemical peels,microdermal's,teeth whitening because these are procedures that can take weeks to heal,you could end up being super sensitive to the sun,not allowed to be in the sun or water at all,in pain and etc! These are the types of treatments you want to have done at home ..probably cheaper and more regulated! I have over 2 years of certification where they may have only had 3 weeks worth! This is definitely an area where buyer beware! 😊

      VERY sound advice. My sister did a “mild” chemical peel on our family cruise and ended up in agony for the remaining 6 days. She didn’t get to do ANYTHING with us because she felt like crap and looked like a burnt chicken nugget.

    So glad to be Australian, we DON'T pay gratuities, tipping is not and NEVER will be a part of our culture. We also are given a price and that's it, we don't have any extras added on top, the price is what you pay as if you win $1 Million that's what you receive, not taxed afterwards. Cruising is great and as said in the video, don't spoil it for others as it's a holiday, if you're an arse, jump off the edge and don't fuck up other peoples holidays.

    • @chriswilliams6568
      @chriswilliams6568 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Philip E. actually the cruises out of Australia are priced to include the tips as the cruiselines know you won’t tip, so they raise the prices to include them.

    I disagree somewhat with the be outgoing suggestion. Some of the best time on the ship was in the quiet of ship's library reading a book and looking out at the sea. There was also a small somewhat hidden specialty bar that almost no other passengers used. Maybe a handful of us passengers had this space to ourselves. Quiet, wood panel look, like an old club. A place where ordering scotch and water, no ice, was expected. No umbrella drinks.

    • @stephaniemac4637

      David Hoffman I agree. I love the hidden nooks and quiet places on the ship.

    • @scot60
      @scot60 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Same here. I'm a normally outgoing person but on the cruise I just wanted to "do my own thing". I spend many wonderful hours sunning myself on the balcony reading a good book and drinking wine. Instead of doing hurried excursions I'd take a taxi to the beach and just chill. To me, a cruise should be about relaxing and everyone has their own idea of that.

    What drives super crazy on a cruise is when a fully capable 20 year old guy takes the elevator up 1 floor when or worse down one, when there are already ten people on the elevator going to different floors. I also hate when you are waiting outside the elevator and right when the doors open some people come and just walk right onto the elevator then you have to wait even longer because there is now no more room on the elevator and they don’t even care. And it’s even worse when they take your spot to go down one floor

    What should happen regarding chair hogs is the ship's officers, or other crew, should confiscate the items, turn them into the Purser, inform the owners that the Purser has their belongings, there will be a fee for retrieving there belongings, and future violations will result in being kicked off the ship. Sounds harsh, I know, but I guarantee that will drastically cut down on the number of flagrant chair hogs.

    • @lizraney3567
      @lizraney3567 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tony Hinojosa This is my biggest pet peeve on cruises and I think your idea is perfect. On a RC cruise, I waited a half hour to see if anyone was really using their “ saved” lounge chair. When they didn’t show up I complained to staff, who looked at me like I was a troublemaker. Another time I couldn’t sleep so went up on deck around 1am to read, so as not to disturb my roommate. At 3am I watched as a male passenger dumped various personal items on six chairs in a prime area and then left. Having seen it, I went around and removed every last item and put them on a bench away from the chairs. Do these people not realize we could all enjoy these chairs if it wasn’t for their selfishness?

    Just got off an MSC 7-day cruise. First time cruise for me. I was SO IRRITATED and PISSED OFF about the pool chairs situation. So people would go down at 6:30, right when the crew would start putting the chairs out - they would place their towels on the chairs and then LEAVE !!! Go back to bed, go get breakfast, etc...... So saving your pool chair/table/recliner was a complete free-for-all. AND throughout the day - 3/4 of the chairs were always empty - but saved with a towel, t-shirt, drink bottle. NOT RIGHT ...

    The only time we take the elevator is when my wife is wearing heels, on formal nights. Otherwise we race the stairs, using them to burn off a few extra calories, on top of using the gym. I have to agree with those who don't get the concept that you don't have to eat to excess. It's amazing to watch people with plates heaped up at the buffet. Of course, they're the one using canes or walkers, or even worse, the dreaded scooters.

    Truly excellent tips; #9 don't go super-cheap. #be considerate of others, if you're chatting be mindful of others sleeping.Be polite. Pick a couple of shore excursions don't overdue.Keep CALM & SAIL ON, Don't over-eat, drink, or sleep. I never would've thought to wait on the teeth whitening making your mouth so sensitive so why not wait? So many great tips. THANK YOU.

    31 could be on on balcony etiquette: be respectful of the other people on the other side of the partition sitting on their balcony; We were on a cruise where about 5 "ladies" on the next balcony were decribing their "poop" as to both size and smell! Something we could have missed hearing. We had to go inside and shut our door as they were so noisy. Not impressed.

      We found a nice and quiet little table in an outside bar with nobody around and then here comes the the party queens who sat right next to us and every other drunken word was "F"...we finally left. I love to see people having a good time, but good grief- please have some pride and have some manners.

    Great video, Don, but I feel that your last advice is a little unnecessary. Cruise lines are generally aware of this scam tactic and they would always have you verify your identify one way or another. If you’ve forgotten your charge card, then they would request your driver’s license. There’s no way they would just charge another account based solely on your say-so.

    I haven't been on a cruise EVER. Want to go, what is a muster drill? Do you have a step by step process for buying cruise through day you get back from cruise? I mean, all these cruise people talk as if we all know what embarkation day is like or talking about the whatever deck...your awesome. Thank you

    Another thing to be careful about is batteries in your cabin. I was having a nap in my stateroom, when I dropped the remote control. One battery fell out, the other bounced into the next compartment. At home I had recently purchased a chinese device that had both batteries facing the same way. I went to put the battery back in, noticed it was the same way, as I am from Australia, the ship was from America, I thought it was the same as my chinese device. After about 5 minutes I picked up the remote to find it was getting extremely hot. I was able to open it up, get both of the batteries out, that's when I realized that the battery that remained in the remote must have jumped into the next compartment, they were meant to be the normal - + , not like my chinese device which was ++. If I had left my room after I replaced the battery the first time, I reckon a fire could have broken out within 10 minutes of leaving my room, which could have been disastrous.

    I cracked up regarding the elevator etiquette because it always makes me laugh when I’m trapped in the elevator by ADULTS, that never even imagined that it’s possible to encounter a human trying to exit the elevator.

    I disagree about someone being able to charge drinks to your room with your name and stateroom number; that would never work on Carnival. If you lose your ID badge, you have to get another one from Guest Services. Also, they take your picture so your face needs to line up with what they have in their system.

    Great advice as always. We trashed ourselves on our first 7 day cruise - 5 shore excursions out of 7 days. Phew... btw did you ever cruise on the SS Norway when she was still sailing?
    Your one on not giving out name and room # is a really good one too. It's so easy to get too relaxed regarding that in the midst of so many other people you don't really know.
    Thanks again Don.
