- Hey guys, I know this isn't the normal video but I recently picked up a new 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback and wanted to add a little bit more power to the stock turbo. I added an intercooler first then while the bumper was off, I installed the cold air intake as well. All and all I am happy with the results, the air intake sounds great and I can feel the difference in power. I might try to chip it next and see if that helps even more :D

I have a Honda Civic lx 2017 and I’m looking to add more to the car to make it sound and look like the street car it’s dying to be. I’ve never done anything to a car so this is learning experience and seeing your video did help I keep having problems looking for parts for the car because a lot of them say it’s not compatible with it. Love the way it sounded

Thanks for the video! I just got a hatchback sport a few weeks ago and have been considering the intake and intercooler. This video just makes me want it more! Prob gonna end up going with a k tuner or hondata flash pro first, but the intake and intercooler are definitely on the list. Thanks for sharing!

Here in Puerto Rico the roads sometimes flood/big ass puddles so I didn't install a CAI on my 2017 2.0...is it still the same danger of sucking in water for the 1.5turbo?

Is there a blow off valve on that? If not that it must be from the air intake which I heard you can hear the turbo more sounds nice gotta do it to mine.
They all have a blow off but no I did not upgrade it, it was just the cold air sound
Won't see any gains without a chip tune. The intercooler upgrade was either a placebo effect or the cars not pulling timing as much because it's not heat soaked from the stock IC.
Yup, I chipped it after this mod and it woke it up for sure

Change the inter cooler pipes “charge pipe” you have to may pipe size changes.
I have the 19 SI and just put an the Injen Cold Air intake and the Injen upgraded hot/cold pipes and intercooler .

Finally I found someone with a cvt too! I have the sport hatch touring (cvt only trim unfortunately) and want to mod it but I was hesitant until I found someone else who did it first.

+Jord Samson hey buddy! Love that car! If you're looking for the best bang for your buck, I would look at chipping it. I chipped mine after this video and made a very noticeable difference. These mods help but it mostly adds noise lol

Omg I have to take off the bumper to install a CAI yeah I'll just get a short ram. Too much work to take off the bumper and if I have to clean/replace the air filter

Question. I have the civic 2017 hatchback ex, I'm trying to find an intake but I want the short run instead of the long one. Will they both fit? Or is it the long one that only fits?
+Mr. Green the injen that I used will do both, you can choose to do a short ram or the longer cold air intake

Great Video!! I just got a 18 Civic Hatchback 1.5l and looking for a cold air intake and this really makes me want to get it! I havent been able to really find any videos of cold air intake installations and I was too scared to just buy a injen or any other brand but because of your video I just decided to go with the ones you got! but thank you for this awesome video! BTW do you have stock exhaust? or ??
Thanks so much! Yeah I am still running the stock exhaust. A protip, when you install add some tape/wetherstriping or something alike around the subframe that you run the cold air intake through. It can rattle if you don't.. you will know what I mean when you do it.

Aren't you / Were you having issues with AFR using the INJEN Air intake? I understand that they were causing issues? I also do not get the "Cold Air" application for a FI engine; since the intake charge is being heated up by the compressor anyway. The IC is all you needed and perhaps a drop-in filter to increase the air velocity when on demand from WOT.
With a Mishimoto IC and a KTuner Starter 21psi, I still see stock fuel consumption.

Southern Ginger Workshop I’ve seen mine read lean a few times but I can’t say in truth if it was because of the cai the diverter plate or just because My radio was acting up. I went to my local honda dealership they reset my system by disconnecting the battery i have yet to see any issues. I have a micro mechanic which i use to reset or shut off the system from my phone awesome stuff 20 bucks. I’ll keep you up if i have any more issues with my Cai
the part that i dont fully understand is what is the cold air intake for when you have an intercooler, are those two redundant?
Car breathes air through cold air intake then farts exhaust which recerculate through turbo then hot compress air goes to intercooler then back to intake for more air to breathe

Are you going to bolt a supercharger on that thing at some point? That would be cool. My brother modded a VW Golf TDi years ago, and it was such a sleeper.

Southern Ginger Workshop it is possible..... question is, are your pockets deep enough? Lol. I seen a video with an Mr2 that was super and turbo charged. I'm going supercharged on my 9th Gen. These 10th gen Turbo Civics beat the 9ths all the time.

+Pablo Gonzalez I didn't but I did use a flashpro to tune it and made a world of difference!
Hondata testing shows Injen intakes have very little gain on horsepower. Only 5-6 hp gains.

It's been a minute but I want to say at the time is was around $600 and I installed it of course :)

+Kevin To I haven't had any issues, it's pretty protected down in the bottom of the bumper. Just don't cut any holes on the "grill" lol :)

+Kevin To when you do that make sure you add some kind a weather stripping around the subframe so the pipe doesn't rattle. I made that mistake :/

Eh... Mostly just noise.. some HP but nothing like a chip would do for you
Can you explain in detail how you got the pipe from rubbing against the car?? im having the same problem.
+Lucas George the only thing I did was add weather stripping around the pipe and zipped tied it on. I might do a video on this later because I haven't really got my fixed either :(
Thanks that is useful, Im trying to think of other ways from the pipe scraping. Also i bought a AF Dynamic Cold Air Intake and the longer pipes bracket that is supposed to connect to the car via vibration mount thingy didnt line up correctly but i got it on ( with a lot of force) buuuuut it broke the vibration mount :(. The threaded piece is in the car frame and the rubber piece is just doing its own thing. I dont know how I am going to fix that part. Any Ideas from this bad of an explanation?

yeahh, theres always has to be a problem with MODS lol. Are you thinking of putting a aftermarket downpipe on your car?

+Paul Na Ranong they say it adds about 15hp but if you really want to unlock the power you need to get a Hondata flashpro to flash your ecu. I'm pushing around 220hp now with all 3 done.
Southern Ginger Workshop I live in sydney and having RS, I am after flashpro and exhaust for now. Hope it make better driving enxperience. Not so sure if intake and intercooler will worth the money because I will need the shop to get them fit for me.

When he says his gas mileage has gone down, does he mean that the mpg has decreased, or that the cost per mile has gone down?
I still average 34-36 in my city driving
Southern Ginger Workshop I’m pretty much a noob at this subject, lol. What exactly does that cooling system do (besides the obvious cooling). Is it expected to reduce mpg?
The idea is to keep the air cooler, if you keep it cooler, the engine will add more fuel to compensate, thus giving more power. I wouldnt say it will increase your MPG. It will give you a little boost in power and more sound for sure! Lol
Thomas Qin An intercooler is an intake air cooling device used commonly on turbocharged and supercharged engines. What does it do? Intercooler cools the air compressed by the turbo/supercharger reducing the temperature and increasing the density of the air supplied to the engine.
Nobody is feeling the override throttle chip. Not that resistor garbage the the real one with the complete harness set up. I'm seeing serious take off with it. It doesn't increase horse power but it seems to release HP faster and shorten throttle delay response. I've has it in since 19 and no defect or issues.

that's always a possibility but you can make it a short ram as well if you choose.. which is what I ended up doing in the end.
I used the enclosed MST unit on mine.rather be safe.

So that cold air intake sits right behind the fake mesh... Maybe drill some holes in that part and get some really cold air in there.

+Kevin Duong the height and width is the same but it's twice as deep. It adds some power but you can unlock more power when you add the chip and stage 2 settings

+Saul Espino haha the horsepower doesn't go down, I noticed the fuel economy went down though and I think that's just because I'm goofing around with it. I'm back up to 32mpg now :)

+Olek Siy nothing wrong with the stock one unless you want more power. No this will not void your warranty unless they can prove that it caused whatever issue. Now I wouldn't mill the block but I wouldn't worry about anything bolt on.

Olek Siy you still will get the blow off sound when you let go of the accelerator.
If something is wrong with the car , id take all the aftermarket parts off and then take it to Honda.
Ktuner for the win. For the cost of the intercooler and the intake you could have bought the Ktuner and actually made some power. Nice work on the install though.

Ah cool, I have a Flash Pro and a Ktuner and switched to Ktuner for a custom tune since they have more options available for my tuner to work with. The intake sounds are awesome. I put the SRI AF Dynamic in bc intakes on this platform literally gains 0 hp but the turbo noises are amazing plus when it rains here in DFW, its like a friggen flood every time.

I have a 16, literally no difference in the 16 or 17. If you are a flash it and forget it person, the Hondata will work fine. The Ktuner actually has some end user options that are drop downs for quick adjustments to turbo spool, boost target ramp rates, and throttle responsiveness. Hondata has all that locked down. my options with hondata on my CVT were +3 psi +6 psi, or both of those with High Octane. On Ktuner I have six options, 3 are locked down, Stage 0,1, and 2. They also have Starter 16.5, 18, and 21 (referring to psi) and those have the drop downs you can adjust easily. are you on Facebook? I wish I knew lol. I was going to Dyno it but that's like $450. I would imagine just those changes gave it about 15 more horsepower but then I chipped it and got another 30+

Whats the advantage of having an air intake?
+Hugh Jazz the idea is that you can get colder air into your engine, colder air tricks the car into producing more fuel.. thus more horsepower :)
If it tricks the car into producing more fuel, does that theoretically mean you can get more mileage out per tank of gas? btw thanks for the answer

whats funny is the new accord will blow away a civic with mods unless its a type r
been there and done that , going for the type r for the next car. Id suggest everyone wait and just get a new accord this fall if you wan HP and torque
+CSIG1001 it's a balance, I wanted a fun small car to drive and get good gas mileage at the same time. I still average around 30mpg with all my mods
CSIG1001 and it's 500 lbs heavier. Completely different car. There's Civics running 12s, with minimal upgrades and custom tunes. Everyone loves to talk out their ass with no real knowledge.
That does not sound as good as it should.. 1.5.. no bueno.
So basically your CVT will absorb any power gains you just made. Ricer.
