The scene where the camera guy bludgeons the infected woman to death with the camera is fucking hilarious! The camera still working and in focus, the blood effect, the sound effects, That's just too funny.
Dogs are always like unintentional easter eggs in movies. In Reservoir Dogs, there was a cop dog that was supposed to bark at one of the major characters as if it found him suspicious yet instead it looks like it just wants to lick his face, lol!
actually, where i live the fire department will show up on 911 calls because they have paramedic training. emts won't show up unless someone need hospitalization. so it's not that far fetched for them to show up to this call.
DaGhost Rathir all the ones i've seen do, at least when they show up. granted, some don't continue to wear their coats and hats if there is no fire, but some do.
Same in Canada, all Fire Fighters are considered First Responders. If they can make it to the scene before the Paramedics then they are called, every second counts in an emergency. Ours also show up in full fire gear, my guess is it's a rule/regulation that you need to wear your emergency gear no matter the call.
That's true where I currently live too. But where I used to live (middle of nowhere Louisiana) cops were trained and ambulances always showed up no matter what. Firefighters were fires only. Also there were no fire hydrants out in the farming country. Firefighters had to use their water stored in the trucks then go to the village to fill up and come back, so maybe that's why they never bothered them for medical emergencies.
This unrealistic footage/cinematic mess is a similar issue I had on the non-horror camera movie Into The Storm. It looked more like a cinematic format instead of found footage with the same BS here. not wanting to restrict itself to the cameras and reality.

To be fair, movies aren't really designed to be read like a book the whole way through and a lot of people don't like that. It's not how the medium is supposed to work, so it makes a lot of people uncomfortable. Especially since most people don't sit there staring at the screen the ENTIRE film. They're eating, or checking their phones, or talking to friends. If you have subtitles, you HAVE to watch the screen the whole time or you won't know what's going on. "Only the angriest dogs wag their tails" Actually, tail wagging is a sign of being high strung. Most of the time it may be from joy, but it can be from anger, fear, pain, or anything else too. Infuriated, angry dogs will also wag their tail.
You are right, however the position of the tail is important, also the speed amd range theor tail is going. A happy dog' tail will be high and move more irregular while an irritated dog's twill will be lower and wag more stiffly.
You mean the obviously dangerous woman who viciously attacked a firefighter and killed another? Killing her was probably the right move there. But whatever durr Murica sucks durr right?
People are getting killed by zombies, people are getting infected by zombies, there is no escape from the infected building full of zombies. But all they're worried about is the camera.
9:11 SOme dogs do wag their tails when angry. My dog does at least. Its just a matter of determining the different wags. Like if its super fast, she's happy. If its slow and she's growling, then she's angry.
Watching this again for the millionth time, it occurs to me that a zombie movie where the survivors have to get from one place to another in a fast and frenetic running zombie fight sounds like a perfect idea. As Phelous' montage points out, it'd feel a lot like an actual zombie game, get you immersed in the action and danger of the moment, and really let the fast zombies and the survivors go all out trying to reach their goal. It sounds like such an obvious idea to put into words, but I'm struggling to think of a single zombie movie that's done an exciting running fight like that.
2:25 You can truly tell the detail the set designers and director strived for...when they put a pool table confined against a freaking wall just for the sake of the MC leaning on it...instead of making sense, the equivalent of having a poker table with only one chair Brilliant
Two rare but good examples of movies where POV-camera works are - coincidentally - REC 2 and Battle for Los Angeles, both for the same reason: the cameras in question are actually set into characters' helmets, as they're special forces and military, respectively. Otherwise the handheld camera thing just seems strained...
I'm not arguing that, or stating that Battle LA is actually good, just that the method/reason for it being found-footage where the camera isn't just dropped at the first sign of trouble are movies like the two I mentioned. I loved Chronicle, and wish the planned sequel will still see the light of day.
fun fact - angry dogs will wag their tails! tail wagging isn't just to show happiness but can also indicate aggression, warning, fear, insecurities or a social challenge. Source: my ex was a do trainer
There's actually a Japanese horror game like this where you play as a cameraman following a reporter around. It was terrible, just like this movie. lol 😆 awesome review, Phelous ✨👍
"the sick dog at the vet's office started attacking the other animals." apparently all the animals just run around loose at the vet with no kennels or anything. "don't restrain the infected" is the main theme of this movie yet it's specifically about a QUARANTINE
Actually, where I live it's STANDARD for firemen to show up to things that aren't fires. In fact our local fireys once mentioned that they respond to something like ninety percent of all emergency calls, so they're literally just trained in everything. It's often because they'd be faster than an ambulance, or the people calling just didn't know who to ask for so they asked for firemen. Also, dogs wag their tails for tons of reasons. Anything from anxiety to anger to joy. It's about knowing your dog and recognising their other body language WITH the tail wag.
The Fire Department responding to a non-fire emergency like that is standard operating procedure. They can usually get there quicker than an ambulance.
Zombie outbreak movies are better when the zombies are already a big problem but I do see the appeal of looking at the outbreak from the beginning and working its way up. This movie is meant for those people who are skeptical of a zombie outbreak ever happening because zombies seem to be not that big of a problem on the small scale. However _Quarantine_ did not give a good answer. All this movie came up with is that a zombie outbreak could only happen if we had absolute trust for insane individuals who bite on instinct. To make the movie feel truly horrifying, the characters should have been using common sense but it still was not enough to contain the outbreak.
I've become so jaded to the idea of a zombie outbreak, that one of my favorite images on the whole internet is a fake new article saying: *Zombie Outbreak in NY: Literately Everyone Knew What to do* Don'y know where the hell i found it, but needless to say it stuck with me.

The original 4 REC movies are soooo much better, it was almost one continuous shot, better acted and a better ending (more supernatural rather then a zombie cash in)... and dont even get me started on Quarantine 2! blurg.
REC 3 is a wild spin-off that the writers later decided to vaguely connect to the main story. REC 4 was just a bloody, unnecessary mess. The first two were perfect on their own.
I think you're overrating these films just a bit there. The first film is fine. The second almost felt like a entirely different movie, once they went a supernatural route. Never saw the last two, but from what I've heard i wasn't missing much.
The fire department also can’t invite random strangers with cameras into your house... they are allowed in, but they can’t automatically bring people in. On Live PD they often stay outside of a house until they’re invited in
Been waiting for you to re-upload this one onto TH-cam for a while now Phelous, another one of my favorite reviews next to your House of the Dead review. 14:03, love that joke.
On a relatively slow night, a 911 call may result in police, EMS, and fire all being called to the scene even if there's no fire being reported. (Source: My best friend is a police dispatcher and my brother-in-law is EMS.)
The reason I watch this video again and again is for the "...and made a random woman die from tripping" line. I burst out laughing like the very first time.
marko simunic It is called REC. Don't remember the director but it stars and actress called Manuela Velasco. It also has three sequels. Haven't seen the last but I did like the second and third movies too. Especially the third.
I liked Quaratime mainly because I could cover my eyes and understand what the actors were saying. I know REC 4 gets a lot of hate but I liked the movie. It had good atmosphere.
Ya do realize the "film everything!" line actually came from the original film itself right? Although to be fair, the original film *didn't* show the camera man, at all.
your profile pic is scarier than anything in this film. ... seriously, just something about the way it's drawn lends to a disturbing image you'd see on one of the better Goosebumps covers.
yeah but in there the chick was extremely ambitious and was like "people need to know the truth ! this can be used as evidence" like she actually thought she gonna survive this
I don't speak spanish and watched REC without subtitles. I wonder if not being able to understand the actors may have improved the viewing experience, because I actually enjoyed it.
The camera whacking the the person in the head looked silly because of the perspective it looked like the guy was head butting the infected person. This could be a frightening if the camera acted as our eyes.
Um... they wore the "Gas Masks" because it isn't airborne, but spittle and blood can fly through the air and get in your eyes, mouth, nose, or in through any zits you have on your face. A cop friend of mine works as an Evidence Tech (if you watch Chicago news and see a guy walking out of a crime scene and it looks like Herman Munster or Frankenstein's Monster, that's him) and he wears protective eyewear and a "Gas Mask" and that's just to take pictures and collect samples of already dead people... If there were someone alive with a disease, of course they would wear full hazmat gear.
"The only thing keeping this story going is the abundant stupidity." THAT'S EVERY ZOMBIE MOVIE EVER! The trick in good Zombie movies is to make the mistakes seem reasonable or at least the person has some ulterior motive.
Me first learning about this movie: Oh, like anyone would act this stupid during a quarantine against a dangerous and fast-spreading disease Me now: This is somehow a documentary even thought it's about Zombies
Actually, where I live the fireys DO show up with the police quite often. The "they're trained as paramedics" shit is actually REAL and happens all the time; there's even this whole thing about how it's hard for the fireys to do their ACTUAL job because they keep getting called in for other shit. Basically here, if people don't know who to call they call the fire department. So they constantly get called in for medical shit, especially since they often show up much faster than an ambulance would. People would rather call the wrong department than wait an hour for an ambulance.
If you add the Benny Hill theme over the last 4 minutes of this movie you'll be laughing your ass off. Also, mix the middle with the Hamster Dance/I'm Blue. 😂.... I got super bored one day and found that out. 🤨... I have a weird sense of humor. 😖 Also, mucus membranes are your eyes, nose mouth, groin, rectum, and anything else that secretes.
Not so quick. There is a common myth that a wagging tail means a happy, friendly dog saying “come pet me.” While it is true dogs do wag their tails to express happiness, they also wag to show other emotions such as fear, insecurity, a social challenge or even a warning such as, if you approach, “I am apt to bite you.”Apr 6, 2018
So, how the hell did ONE dog infect the whole house? Why did all the infected people start popping out at the last second only out of their homes? Why would they go and hunt others? That's not how rabies works. Also, why would the police not go in and help the firefighters?
To be fair, people are super strong when they don’t care about themselves. I can see biting into people or throwing them like rag dolls because they don’t care about bones or safety. Like when people lift cars and break spines. Especially given these are rage infected and don’t have stiffness set in. That said, they still break, so even with that adrenalized strength she still will eventually collapse. Broken bones are still broken, even if you don’t care. Funny enough wagging tails are problems in movies, so they have to cg them or focus on not the tails. The treat waving to get them to act does it.
Uh, for getting a brain sample, even if they were rational, people would panic if they felt their brain being poked and cut. They should restrain them.
@@GOFFBITZH666 true there. Even if fresh needed, smash out the teeth and restrain. They don’t NEED teeth, so won’t kill fresh living samples. I think zombie movies have mentioned that a few times
I have the movie Quarantine on Blu-Ray...in the US. It's quite different. The movie's in B&W, shot entirely from the first-person perspective, and a whole lot shorter. I'm pretty sure it starts out in the building, too. I don't remember the firemen at all.
Sadly with the corona virus effecting everything this movie is now highly relevant even though i maintained the original movie REC was so far better then this remake but that's just my opinion.
+Dixie Normous In the original version, there was no dog. I can only guess this dog wasn't Max... Seriously many things in Quarantine are way less stupid in REC.
10:18-10:38 Wow, I didn’t know they made a found footage cut of REC 3! ...What? _That_ movie tried to be like an incredibly mild, tonally confused Planet Terror.
The scene where the camera guy bludgeons the infected woman to death with the camera is fucking hilarious! The camera still working and in focus, the blood effect, the sound effects, That's just too funny.

I feel bad for everyone who saw this before the original Spanish movie.
+MsDjessa Whats the original spanish movie called? i kinda wanna see it!
marko simunic It is called REC.
It had good atmosphere.
sweetcinnamonpnchkin I haven't seen the fourth film myself yet. Will be interested though.
MsDjessa I would recommend it. :) Have fun watching it!
People acting dumb in a Quarentine situation? Only in a horror movie right!!
😂Hahahaha
Ahaha
Hehe
Uhuhuhu😭
Thanks a lot for all the flashes near the end. I had a seizure. :)
Who else lost it when phelous rammed his head into the camera ?
Ya do realize the "film everything!" line actually came from the original film itself right?
Although to be fair, the original film *didn't* show the camera man, at all.
IAmTheMikko -3-
your profile pic is scarier than anything in this film.
... seriously, just something about the way it's drawn lends to a disturbing image you'd see on one of the better Goosebumps covers.
+noobmaster117 Really now.
yeah but in there the chick was extremely ambitious and was like "people need to know the truth ! this can be used as evidence" like she actually thought she gonna survive this
noobmaster117 DAMMIT MUTTON BASH.
lain iwakura True.
I don't speak spanish and watched REC without subtitles. I wonder if not being able to understand the actors may have improved the viewing experience, because I actually enjoyed it.
It's more likely for firefighters to show up in a lot of USA states before the police. It's a weird thing, but they are often first responders
The camera whacking the the person in the head looked silly because of the perspective it looked like the guy was head butting the infected person. This could be a frightening if the camera acted as our eyes.
Press 5 for "Well, THAT was an expensive joke."
i just saw the title and i just knew i had to click on this.
Hey Phelous, when are you gonna upload Five Across The Eyes? I loved that review xD
I've seen plenty of documentaries where the camera crew go into dangerous situations.
Normally they're professionals that are known and have training in these situations and will have signed documents saying they can.
GEEKSoftheWEST could you name one please.
no real ones
REC was really good. It's amazing how they can take direct translations from the original scenes and make them totally awful.
And removing all the religious references, which pissed off REC'S director.
Um... they wore the "Gas Masks" because it isn't airborne, but spittle and blood can fly through the air and get in your eyes, mouth, nose, or in through any zits you have on your face.
I like to imagine this is set in the Two and a Half Men universe and Alan is watching this on the news, knowing Judith is getting what she deserves.
"The only thing keeping this story going is the abundant stupidity." THAT'S EVERY ZOMBIE MOVIE EVER! The trick in good Zombie movies is to make the mistakes seem reasonable or at least the person has some ulterior motive.
Me first learning about this movie: Oh, like anyone would act this stupid during a quarantine against a dangerous and fast-spreading disease
Me now: This is somehow a documentary even thought it's about Zombies
Love that stab at "funny games"
Actually, where I live the fireys DO show up with the police quite often. The "they're trained as paramedics" shit is actually REAL and happens all the time; there's even this whole thing about how it's hard for the fireys to do their ACTUAL job because they keep getting called in for other shit. Basically here, if people don't know who to call they call the fire department. So they constantly get called in for medical shit, especially since they often show up much faster than an ambulance would. People would rather call the wrong department than wait an hour for an ambulance.
I have to admit, the jump scare at 17:02 scared me a lot!
Considering how stupidly people are being during the covid pandemic makes what happens in this movie significantly more believable.
I know, right?
5:03 OH GOD, that sound effect... I'm laughing so hard right now, you have no idea...
I love the cartoony sounds phelous puts in these reviews
Absolutely. A lot of dogs wag AND bark at the same time. It just means they're excited or anxious about SOMETHING
Another great video, Phelan.
You should review more bootleg Pokemon toys.
You can't "feel your brain being poked and cut". The brain has no nerves.
Even then they’ve had plenty of saliva samples since the infected kept spitting everywhere lol
@@LordofFullmetal Could feel the air and skull. Maybe should say head
@@GOFFBITZH666 true there. Even if fresh needed, smash out the teeth and restrain. They don’t NEED teeth, so won’t kill fresh living samples. I think zombie movies have mentioned that a few times
The part where they take all of the tenants out together in the lobby where they can get openly infected still hurts my brain
OH MY GOD AT 10:47 IS THAT LEISURE SUIT LARRY 6 MUSIC?
best resident evil film ever
I'm pretty sure that the dog shown at about 9:25 is actually trying to have sex with its victim.
Debra Morgan, what are you doing here?
I have the movie Quarantine on Blu-Ray...in the US. It's quite different. The movie's in B&W, shot entirely from the first-person perspective, and a whole lot shorter. I'm pretty sure it starts out in the building, too. I don't remember the firemen at all.
Actually, dogs will sometimes wag their tail when they are aggressive. Yeah, mixed messages.
This is like that hilariously bad PS2 game "Report From Hell Michigan"
9:13 only the angriest dogs wag their tails😂😂😂😂😂😂
Sadly with the corona virus effecting everything this movie is now highly relevant even though i maintained the original movie REC was so far better then this remake but that's just my opinion.
Yeah... Because Covid is causing zombies.
@@AnAmericanMusician lol 😂 indeed
Great video man..keep it up
Okay, it's an unwritten rule in movies that nobody has ever seen a movie, but how did these characters even tie their shoes in the morning?
Wait...if Max was at the vet and attacked all the other animals, how'd he end up in the apartment?
+Dixie Normous In the original version, there was no dog. I can only guess this dog wasn't Max... Seriously many things in Quarantine are way less stupid in REC.
Because REC is about people being possessed by some demon. People actually thought it was about zombies which in result, Quarantine.
10:18-10:38 Wow, I didn’t know they made a found footage cut of REC 3! ...What? _That_ movie tried to be like an incredibly mild, tonally confused Planet Terror.
