    "Fun" facts about this movie:
    - The opening scene was shot in a public park. Without a permit. It was also planned to be "much more extravagant", but there wasn't enough time or money.
    - It was shot in 11 days. There are no deleted scenes.
    - The creators copyrighted the title "Death Turkey" for marketing reasons.
    - Nobody wanted to distribute this film so the filmmakers sold the DVDs on Amazon by themselves. It took a year to sell 1000 copies.
    - Before this one, the creators had an idea of another holiday themed horror film. It would have been called "Eggstravakill" . Take one guess which holiday it would have been about...

      Makes it all the more shocking to learn that not ONLY was there a sequel, but in THAT case it actually had a (by C to Z grade movie status, anyway) fairly decent budget ($100,000, which is close to *30 times* the total budget of the original Thankskilling), raised by Kickstarter. At the time, I believe, the MOST EVER RAISED for a Kickstarter-funded horror film.
      So there is ONE terrifying thing about Thankskilling; not only did people *actually want* a sequel for it, but *enough people* actually wanted it enough to *fork up money for its development*.

    As Bennet the Sage once said: "People would rather watch a bad Sci-Fi than a bad comedy." This movie right here is living proof. Come to think of it, this is on par with Pixels. The only difference is that this one has no budget.

    • @SuperCosmicMutantSquid
      @SuperCosmicMutantSquid 9 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      +PKMN37 You know what? I have to agree. At least with a bad sci-fi movie you can find comedy in how bad it is (Battlefield Earth is a prime example) but when a COMEDY is bad what is there to laugh at? Nothing.

    I find it interesting that in the US they are called "American Indians" or "Native Americans" (depending on the individual tribe) but in Canada they call themselves members of the "First Nations". I think I like Canada's term better, especially since it can be applied to any indigenous people of any country.

    • @LibraGamesUnlimited
      @LibraGamesUnlimited 9 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Super Cosmic Mutant Honey Candle Squid Yeah that would be giving this movie too much credit. :)
      I remember in the old days one or two of the main characters would be a-holes but the rest of them would be normally people.
      You wanted the a-holes to die but actually rooted for the other characters.
      Now it's like they want to you to root for the killer what with the whole cast being a-holes and them trying to humanize the killers with backstories about them being abused and whatnot.
      It's really weird.

    • @SuperCosmicMutantSquid
      @SuperCosmicMutantSquid 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Chris McWilliams
      I hate the whole root for the killer thing since it feels like an easy out to writing a decent story with characters. Just take four or five stock characters, a lumbering killer who walks in the shadows and bingo. Typical horror movie.

    • @LibraGamesUnlimited
      @LibraGamesUnlimited 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Super Cosmic Mutant Honey Candle Squid Yeah. Not only that but it really defeats the purpose. Killers are scary because we don't know anything about them.
      The minute you start humanizing them to make the audience root for them is the minute that's gone.
      Plus, most revenge killer movies mess it up by having the killers kill people they should have no grudge against just to up the body count.

    • @SuperCosmicMutantSquid
      @SuperCosmicMutantSquid 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Chris McWilliams
      Because nothing says a person we should sympathize with than someone who tortures and murders some random ass strangers that have nothing to do with his or her pain or anguish. Even if the characters are annoying, they have more right to be sympathized than the killer since hey, AT LEAST THEY AREN'T FUCKING MURDERING PEOPLE AND TRYING TO JUSTIFY IT.
      Blurgh, I guess you're right. Killer movies were better when the killers were....well, killers and if they DID have a backstory explained, at least the characters who wound up in their traps were actually fleshed out and likable so you DO care even if you're just as scared when the blood sprays. Now its just.....'HEY! WE NEED FIVE DIPSHITS AND A STUPID KILLER! PROFIT!'

    I actually did laugh at "nice tits, bitch," just not for the reason they wanted. I imagine the turkey was trying to be Freddy Krueger, but "nice tits bitch" was the best one-liner he could think of. It misses the point because it has nothing to do with how he kills her or why he's even doing it. But the turkey *thinks* it's a great line. That's why it's funny to me - because of a bunch of context I mentally added to the background.

    • @AllyGatorAnimator
      @AllyGatorAnimator ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Pretty much the same reason I laughed at another line in the movie:
      "Looks like I've got something you haven't got, Turkey."
      "What's that Darren? A VAGINA?!"
      It's such a nonsensical line, but it's delivered with such confidence that I can't help but laugh. It has the same energy as one of those school bullies who thinks calling everything "gay" immediately wins an argument.

    Hi, again, Phelous,
    I had to see what this movie is about because Hack RVA, the local workshop club/maker space,, started a tradition of a party between Halloween and Thanksgiving, calling it Thankskilling. They mentioned that there's a movie by the name, and that it's bad, but nothing more was said. We had more important things to do, such as play Cards Against Humanity with 17 players. It actually moved along and was a blast.
    We don't violate others' identities or hack into their computers. Our "hacks" are more like a running MacGyvere LARP. And I need to get over there, for more fun. Thanks, again, for being the companionship that allowed me to clean up some clutter, and find out enough about a movie to avoid it (unless well-riffed). :)

      +dmjsra04 The actor Michael Horse said in a documentary, that he doesn't like the term "native American", since it's a term made up by white man to feel better about himself. I think he said he identifies as "Indian American aboriginal".
