It was limited for a while, since it only really worked in occult decks, but with the addition of other means to obtain a second soul and the unbanning of the heart of the cards, mind crush was unbanned because it was seen as a fair counter to hearts, and was balanced by multi-soul players.
It probably shouldn't be banned. The only time it's actually relevant is when your opponent adds a card from deck to hand, which makes it an infinitely worse Ash Blossom because it only fulfills one-third of the functions and it's a Trap Card. At best, it's a tech-choice in legacy formats if there's a deck that can easily add from deck to hand.
So, I am not a player, but I did look the card up. I don't really understand why the card would be banned to begin with. Seems like a fairly basic, non-offensive card.

If you ask me, Yugi is a bigger one since the only reason he's the king of games is because the Pharaoh did all the work by winning all his duels for him (albeit mostly by cheating and plot armor luck from his millennium puzzle).

@@andresraffler Its mainly because The First Arc of Yugioh originally intended for the game to be a fusion of TTRPG and Card Game. That's why the environments were able to be affected and summoning building/environment cards changed the battlefield. Summoning walls to protect your monsters. Using fire to evaporate water to weaken water monsters. Destroying parts of buildings to cause them to collapse exposing monsters to attack or using the destroyed building to damage the monsters hiding behind it and all that. I kinda wish we got to see how such mechanics would work in an actual board game. Would have been really interesting to try out.

When I rewatch the first few episodes after 15 years or so, I realized something I didn't get as a kid. They literaly ignore all rules. I already knew it via memes, but I thought they were just exagerated. In the first duel between Kaiba and Yugi Kaiba just throws his white dragons on the field without any sacrafices or effects. This summoning without sacrafice went on for at least the first tournament.
Kaiba literally introduces the rule of high level monsters needing sacrifices at the start of season 2 after episode 50, so of course they don't follow the rule which doesn't yet exists. How would they?
To be fair to Pharaoh, Kaiba keeps making Blue eyes support so he can basically have his dragons out in like what 3 turns tops. So, the pot of greed ban has always felt, kind of suspect.

Imagine watching a show about MTG, except most of the runtime is taken up by the characters reading the description of the card's effects and the art on the cards appear in the real world when the characters play.
For the longest time I thought one of the rules was that you couldn't have more than 3 of the same card in the deck. When I found out that isn't the case, the banning of Pot of Greed made more sense.
I literally just watched the first season a week ago.....it's sooooo bad I love it. It's like the people whoade the show were told what the game was but they had no idea how it was played or how anything worked. It's a gem fo sho.
The best part is that they don't even bother explaining the stuff outside of the game either, initially. For a good bit of the first season the only background on the millennium puzzle is a line in the show's intro and a single flashback that lasts all of two frames. They'll just randomly drop terms like "mind crush" and "shadow game" for the first time, but then offer zero explanation for what that means or why it's happening.

I used to own a tournament banned card when my brother gave me his entire Yu-Gi-Oh collection. I didn't like Yu-Gi-Oh and my brother didn't want his collection so I accepted his collection to just give it to my friend who collected them. He ended up getting very expensive cards along with a movie and a thing of popcorn to enjoy along with the movie. My friend never seen this movie and I have multiple times so we were able to talk about it after he watched it. He really enjoyed it. The movie was Bonds Beyond Time. I only watched it a few times when I was bored and I just happened to kinda like it but not enough to keep anything Yu-Gi-Oh related. I had so many good cards that collectors would seek out for their own collection. I did end up looking every card up and finding out how much they costed on ebay. Some went to $35 just for one card. I ended up saving my friend money on buying them as some were actually ones he wanted but just couldn't get in his collection.

For the longest time I thought one of the rules was that you couldn't have more than 3 of the same card in the deck. When I found out that isn't the case, the banning of Pot of Greed made more sense.

I literally just watched the first season a week ago.....it's sooooo bad I love it. It's like the people whoade the show were told what the game was but they had no idea how it was played or how anything worked. It's a gem fo sho.
The best part is that they don't even bother explaining the stuff outside of the game either, initially. For a good bit of the first season the only background on the millennium puzzle is a line in the show's intro and a single flashback that lasts all of two frames. They'll just randomly drop terms like "mind crush" and "shadow game" for the first time, but then offer zero explanation for what that means or why it's happening.
To be fair, the show is based on the manga, and the manga was made when the card game didn’t exist yet

I used to own a tournament banned card when my brother gave me his entire Yu-Gi-Oh collection. I didn't like Yu-Gi-Oh and my brother didn't want his collection so I accepted his collection to just give it to my friend who collected them. He ended up getting very expensive cards along with a movie and a thing of popcorn to enjoy along with the movie.
My friend never seen this movie and I have multiple times so we were able to talk about it after he watched it. He really enjoyed it. The movie was Bonds Beyond Time. I only watched it a few times when I was bored and I just happened to kinda like it but not enough to keep anything Yu-Gi-Oh related.
I had so many good cards that collectors would seek out for their own collection. I did end up looking every card up and finding out how much they costed on ebay. Some went to $35 just for one card. I ended up saving my friend money on buying them as some were actually ones he wanted but just couldn't get in his collection.
