The agitator base is used for moving the items inside the wash tub through the cycle

Part Number WP389386 replaces AP6008839, 389386, PS11741980, B072YTS163, B002ZNNJ62, B004XKZVFW

Flat head screwdriver
7/16 socket and ratchet

This helped me a lot. Awesome advice. Also if your agitator continues to spin, hold onto the edge of the wash to where it wont spin.
Thanks for the video, needed to remove the plastic agitator in a similar model to clear a drain blockage, and didn't want to destroy it in the process!
Screw in the center of mine won't budge at all. I even busted out my impact wrench (300 ft-lbs). Nothing. It isn't coming out... Not sure how to get this thing off to clean.
We have a different model and I got the bolt out but the agitator (one piece) won’t budge.

Agitator moves freely only 1 way and supposed to stop if you go the other way. If it spins freely both ways you need to replace your dogs under agitator.

So what do you do when your Amana washer doesn't have a bolt on top for the agitator? Mine is just plastic. I don't see how to remove it yet.

What if your base is stuck and you've pulled and yanked and it won't come off and out?
I appreciate the video but it seems that Amana is different based on the models. I removed the top pieces only to find not a 7/16 nut but a plastic piece that looks like a skinny cone. I am hesitant to pull on it, as I don't want to break it.

I cannot remove the agitator. The 7/16 bolt keeps turning and turning. Any ideas? Thx
Hold the bottom part of the agitator. Mine spun with the nut.
I can't get the bolt loose.
Any advice for what to do when that lower agitator base will NOT slip on so easily like yours did? I Have tried and tried and studied the innards of the agitator and the base that it slips over and it will not go back down all the way like it was. It gets stuck and the base of it is raised about 2 inches above the bottom of the washing machine. Help
Unfortunately without physically seeing it we can only give you a couple guesses. When you put the new agitator on try and twist it as you push it down, some agitator bases may have a notch that has to line up on the shaft and wont go down all the way unless those are lined up. Some agitator bases snap into place so you may not be pushing it down hard enough. Also always make sure you ordered the correct part, because if you have a base that wasn't made for your washer it may not fit properly.
Thanks so much for your reply. It's actually not new it's the same one that was on there before i just cleaned it up while I had the upper agitator off to replace the dogs/cogs. I even stood on it inside the washer to see if that would help it go down - no go. I'm so perplexed bc it was on there before.

What if the entire agitator including the drive shaft that goes into the gearbox comes out with the agitator!? We were ripped off by a Letgo app liar I believe!😠
They said it worked fine. Got it home and the agitator floated up with the water level! Help! I really don't feel like disassembling the whole machine with a sledgehammer and scattering it all over the sellers front yard this afternoon. I would rather do laundry. Thanks.☺
