Yes, this worked like a charm. My washplate was stuck and this did the trick, RIGHT AWAY....unfortunalely, the hub was not the problem with the agitator....I am debating to keep troubleshooting, or just get a new washer.....
It worked!!! Several attempts and different combinations of air and water. Mine took bags as deep as possible and over a gallon of boiling water in one continuous pour. Thanks for the help
WOW...........it worked. Thanks so much. After trying several different methods suggested on YT I came across your video. I ordered the less expensive Gute air bags and they came with several different plastic levers so you don't have to use metal screw drivers. They only cost $18.31 on Amazon Prime and I received then in two days. Thanks again.
Thank you for this video! After 3 evenings trying to remove the wash plate, I went to Harbor Freight and bought 3 bags. I placed them just like you instructed in the video and poured some CLR in and BOOM, that thing came flying off! I can't thank you enough!
After removing the bolt, pour CLR into the hole and let it sit for 20 minutes. Then partially reinstall the bolt as protection against the wash plate blowing off into your face when inflating the air bags.
I tried all the other methods this time and I couldn't get it off. I came across this video and borrowed some air wedges. Keep them even and be patient. I had to move them around as it started to loosen up. The hot water was the key. I had to repeat the process 3-4 times and bam!! It popped off.
Great video. Mine was completely seized. Followed this video to a T. Did not break lose until I started pouring boiling water into the center of the agitator plate. Kept pouring slowly and continuously for about 45 seconds when it popped up on its own. THANKS.
I had a seriously stuck agitator. I loosened (but not removing it) the agitator screw, put the machine in wash cycle a few times and finally removed the screw and the agitator came floating off. The strong back and forth movement during the wash cycle will loosen any stuck agitator.
@@poolmonkey Nope, I could not get the above method or the airbag tools to succeed. I decided not to risk trying harder and breaking a perfectly functional washer in a misguided effort to recover a small object that slipped behind the agitator. Really frustrating.
@@ByTheLake81 My husband did it with super hot water (reversed the hoses to the machine and set to 'tap cold' and two cups of citric acid. Still took two entire cycles, but it finally came off without damage. These were clearly designed to be throw away, like so much else on this generation of Whirlpool machines.
@@ethelryan257 I worked my hind end off and tried several of these methods I ordered the 6 pack of air wedges on Amazon for 26 dollars they arrived next day 30 minutes ago 😅 it’s off and I’m back to tell you all this is the way to do it took a couple of air in and out to adjust placement but this is the best 🙏
Use of air bags was a great tip for me. They cost like $60 for 3 and took a bit to get placed but were key to plate removal IMHO. I ALSO needed a wire-to-ratchet strap pull-up assistance AND I used a steam machine (on the bolt area) for some direct heat. To be clear, that's 3 different, simultaneous-used tools in play. I was preparing boiling water too but the plate popped-up before the hot water was ready. I did a little rubber hammer shock-pounding too along the way. My LG top-loader plate took me hours to get off and I mangled the plate's top a bit - I can bend it back. The plate's going to receive a little cleaning and bit of anti-moisture lubricate (AKA grease) when it goes back in. All this effort (and next-up drum removal and cleaning) to remove some persistent scrud. It's been a costly endeavor and real inconvenience but better than buying a new washing machine!
I grabbed a large bit extender that was similar size to the metal nut end of the shaft that you see in the center and tapped it down whilst pulling up on the stuck agitator and it slid off easily
I used the airbags and hot water and my washplate did not come off. Only when I put the bolt back and screwed it down some and tapped it lightly with a hammer then I had sucess.
...or a blood pressure cuff?? But, This is Outrageous! Why can/t they just fasten everything together with bolts?? I'm working on my (1984) GE washer. I got the top cap off the agitator with a hairdryer. Hoever, I see NO bolts or other type of fastener to get the agitator off.
Quick question, the liquid that is captured in the drum, is it in there from the factory and if so, is it water or a glycol, I want to store a spare drum up in my attic to save space and I'm concerned that it will freeze, destroying the drum.
I just did this and it worked, but the metal piece didn't come out with it. All of the replacement parts have the metal piece and I can't get it off the washer. Any advice?
I used a Dremel tool with a cutting wheel to make 4 vertical cuts through the insert, being careful to just barely cut through the insert without cutting into the transmission shaft. This I did after a puller could not remove the insert.
As an appliance repair Tech our most common way of removing wash plates that are stuck is with a small sledgehammer or a cutting tool Customers are told this in advance and given estimate as this is a very common part of replacing a bearing on Cabrios. Most technicians don't have the time to waste pumping up airbags which don't always work. If a wash plate cannot be pried up easily it has to be broken because the ferrell part of the wash plate is almost always completely corroded onto the bearing shaft. Replacing bearings on cabrio's is a very expensive job which is why I don't recommend cabrio's to anybody
I put the bolt in just enough to rip them out with brute force and a pair of channel locks. The bolt dies but more often than not i can save the washplate.
10-20 minutes is too long to remove this using air bags ? plus the agitator plate is reusable. so tell me you can destructively remove the agitator plate in less time ? i doubt it. it might have taken me 20 minutes at most because i heated a cup of water in microwave.
What about the bicycle inner tube method; with canned air?? Or...what if you were to wrap (un-popped) popcorn in aluminum foil, along with one or two activated hand warmers, and put the whole thing in a rubber pencil case? Maybe the steam from the popping corn could Really exert a LOT of pressure on the plate?? ...and, how about Demolition concrete??
Hello. OK, FOllow the bouncing ball here, this is not that difficult. FIrt, remember the splines that connect the wash plate to the transmission are tapered! Prying up on ANY side of the plate only makes things worse since it pinches the splines together and all manner of yankiing on the edges simply tightens the two splines even more! Here is the best way that worked perectly for me: First, once you remove the center bolt, pour either heated white vinegar or a good spray of BLASTER around the bolt hole making certain it gets into the splie area. Let that soak in for at least an hour. Next, gently tap all around the center collar of the plate including tapping both sides of each impeller vane. NOT TOO HARD, just enough to break any corrosion between the two splie parts...make and female. Probably should NOT hit down onto where the bolt was...that will only further jam the splines together. Not doo. Now, take a GOOD pair of channel locks, tightly grip anywhere around the top edge of the bolt collar (the raised circle that surrounds the bolt), and yank up. Voila, it should come right out but make certain you pull it STRAIGHT UP and not torqued to one side of the other. All the other methods only worked againsT you. And when you are ready to replace the impeller or wash plate, make certain you take a good brass brush and clean out the splines as much as you can to remove any loose corrosion. Take a tooth brush soaked in blaster or WD40 to clean out the inside of the plate spines. Then, coat both splines with a good Anti Seize lubricant (Permatex is a good choice in the gray tube). Replace the wash plate or agitator and exercise up and down gently to evenly better distribute the lubricant. You are done. Relplace the bolt with the BLUE Lock Tite lubricant. Now if you need to remove it at a future date, repeating the above provess will allow the plate to be removed easily if even you need to do that. And no, the lube will not stain your clothes. It is fully encapsulated by the tight fit of the two splices. Enjoy.. Dr. Z (Lou)

NEVER AGAIN working on a wash plate washer. Worthless garbage machines only massage the bottom of the clothes. And the one I was working on was SEIZED beyond any possibility of any technique working. After dousing it in WD40 overnight and hammering, prying, lifting all corners... NOTHING would budge it. Ended up just shattering it to bits with a hammer, only way to get it off, and it even held on there too. Probably just going to throw the whole washer out. Sick joke too - the one video that actually addressed disassembly of a similar model to mine, just glazed right over removing that stupid agitator. Remove screw, jump cut... lift out the wash plate! Exactly as you show. Thanks for the tip.....

Sounds just like my experience. The water was boiling when that plate let go.
Shoestring worked well to. Wrap it..push something so its under, wrap around and pull up

Ive tried this but mine was soo stuck that broke my plate
I use 2 hooks on each side and get it underneath the plate and then pull up, if not successful I use WD40
TY. MAYBE THIS WILL WORK.
Why hot water not WD-40 or similar ??
thread the bolt in partially before starting to avoid the plate flying up 🤣
