      All the heads I make are entirely 3D printed with a small amount of foam to make small features. I use filament call ABS that melts at 270 Degrees Celsius. The nozzle/extruder is 0.1 mm that costed me $3K AUD. You think that is expensive? I have 3 laser cutters, a $250K 3D printer and a $100K 3D printer. My first printer was a Ender 3 v2. Nice and cheap. It only costs about $250 AUD.

    They are the same programs I use at school for my Design & Technology class. To get a more uniform outside wall you should try use the shell feature, if you start by sketching the outside size and the eye hole then extrude the entire thing to the depth you want so you have a solid block you can use the shell feature to hollow it out giving a uniform thickness of the wall. then you can extrude the base if that gets too thin then unhide the starting sketch and extrude the eye hole with cut operation which it should do automatically if you pull it through the main part. sorry if this is a bit confusing, I'm not the best at explaining things. Anyway if you see this hope it helps!

  • @World_Theory
    @World_Theory 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I don't know if the slight inconsistency in the thickness of the wall of the eye bothers you, but it kind of bothered me. I've never used Fusion 360, so I looked up its import formats to check if the idea I had to fix what I perceived as a problem was viable. The idea was to create a vector drawing of the eye in Inkscape. (I'm very familiar with Inkscape.) In Inkscape, you can create curves (which can even have smooth joins between them) and specify a border thickness. You can then select the shape you've drawn, and convert the stroke (another name for the border) to a path. A path is basically what you call the underlying lines of any freeform shape you've drawn, before a style is applied to it to give it color, borders, or a texture fill. I believe that the shapes you were drawing by hand over the top of your sketch photo, were paths. And that Fusion used these 2D pathes as the basis for the shape you made. (A bit obvious already, sorry.) The reason I would convert the stroke of your shape to a path, is to create the base of the wall that you would later extrude in fusion 360. The thickness will be extremely consistent this way, although your hand-drawn wall is probably good enough to be getting on with, if perhaps a bit tedious to do. In order to get the drawing from Inkscape to Fusion 360, I believe you'll need to "save as" or "save a copy as" or "export" as a file with the ".dxf" file format. This was the only format that I saw which Fusion 360 has in common with Inkscape. Another reason why I wanted to convert the border of the shape you drew, to a path, was because I don't know how the conversation process would handle the stroke style, and paths are generally the safest, most widely supported option. So, in theory, the .dxf file you have just created will open in Fusion 360 as a basic path of some kind, which you can do the rest of your 3D manipulations to, to produce the eye you want.
    Obviously, you can choose to ignore this and keep doing things the way you have been, but I thought I'd try as provide another potential option. I much prefer working with 2D shapes in Inkscape; the interface in Fusion 360 looked almost entirely focused on doing things in 3D. I saw that you have Blender installed, too, but I don't know if you like that program, or what exactly you use it for. But I have heard that you can directly import .svg files (the file type that Inkscape works with natively) into Blender directly. I've not really done much more in Blender than open it up a poke around briefly, and that was quite a few years ago. But it wouldn't surprise me even slightly to learn that you can use it for modeling something for 3D printing, or that you could get Blender to work together with Fusion 360 somehow.
    I imagine that if I watch a bunch more of your tutorials, I'll have decent chance of finding out what, if anything, that you use Blender for.

    A couple of CAD tools that you might find useful for future projects are the spline tool for drawing curves and the offset tool for drawing the outer wall.

  • @Zanoab
    @Zanoab ปีที่แล้ว

    I might be late but I recommend using a vector editing tool like Inkscape to create the paths. You can even create the entire eye pattern with color and share the design easily. Save it as a svg and you can import it into most CAD programs (like Autodesk Fusion) as a sketch.

    Great video. Just a suggestion to those looking at doing this and saving a bit of time, the step at 3.34 in, instead of tracing a line around it again you can create a perfect, matching wall by pressing o on your keyboard which brings up the offset pane, select the original line and then set your offset/wall thickness.

    I like your work and your well made tutorials. But I never tried to make a fursuit yet.
    I am also using a 3D printer. I have got an Ender 3 with a heated bed. I got that from a China based dealer, (dx.com) for 165 US$. I have a heat resistant glass on the bed and I use hairspray for adhesion. So I never need a raft for my prints. That saves a big amount of printing time.
    I hate fusion. I use google sketchup insted. That's a little more complex, but it gives you more features as well. For example, you can direct draw curved lines and it has a feature to draw a second outline in a defined distance.
    The slicer I use is Cura. Not to poor, but not to complicted as well.
