Amazing piece of equipment. I spoke with Winona Van Norman and an engineer explained to me that if you are doing a set of engine lifters, every one comes out the same with the crown. There is a stop that limits the amount of feed for removing material and a stop to locate every lifter at the same depth in the collet. A crown is introduced by using the right hand of that loop style handle to push the lifter back and forth across the diamond wheel face. There is a new and finer wheel that comes with each new unit. Soon, an attachment may become available to grind a chamfer on the edge of the lifter face but until then, you have to devise your own method. I also learned of a company using this machine is doing 4,000 lifter per day. Many of the earlier refacers only ground a taper on the face, this one grinds a proper crown. Quality control of flat tappet lifter faces is almost non existent today, that is until this machine was introduced. I have 32 lifters for a small block Chevy, One brand provided 15 almost perfect lifters and the other brand provided garbage. Both used Johnson lifters and you can see a difference in the grind between the two sets. I checked out the garbage set with a dial indicater and went from side to side and also checked the face for runout as I rotated them while being located the same position and checked different places from edge to center. The garbage set went from flat to a difference of 0.00 to 0.003" as rotated. Only 6 were usable and still questionable. No wonder the failure rate is so high. It isn't Johnson's fault.

What lifter diameters will this machine service.Aside from std.flat tappet and mushroom type bodies what will this machine be able to handle.
with all the crappy made lifters that have incorrect radius on the foot of the lifters in GM Ford and Chrysler engines. Since they all use a different measurement for the radius how adjustable will this machine be??
Most HP cams have more lobe taper then stock OEM to promote lifter rotation but the foot of the lifters are so inconsistently made these days we are spending an extra 2 hrs on a build just to checking the lifters as well as the camshaft lobe taper but its like the makers of these parts are not properly finishing and of these to allow them to live.
Its been along time coming for some one to re-introduce this type of machine since sunnen discontinued their machine many years ago.
The spindle on that machine isn't square at all!! You can actually see it as it turns! No Bueno!!
