One thing I forgot to mention is that it sounded the same from the headphone output as it does when connected to an external amplifier, like the Geshelli Labs Archel 2 and SPL Phonitor SE. Both amplifiers delivered a sound that matched the headphone output sound signature.
Your honest reviews are much appreciated 🙂.
Thank you
Thanks. Glad you enjoy the channel content.
Good sound quality... Check

Doesn't blow up your headphones....CHECK ;)
Great review man. I'm going to buy it this week. Thanks.
Awesomeness 😎 Look forward to hearing your impressions.
Nice review! Straight to the point.Looking at either the Topping dx7 pro or this Burson. Thanks Dave!
Sorry I haven't heard the Topping DX7 Pro. I look forward to hearing your impressions on whichever one you choose.
Hi and thanks for the video, so I was wondering, is the playmate still fine in your opinion in 2023? I am looking for that exact sound profile to make my focal celestee a bit darker and with a bit more of dynamic around bass region (the overall headphone is a bit agressive for me out of the box) Do you think there is better products that would do that job better or cheaper now? I saw the price has not dropped at all. Thanks again!
Yeah I think the Burson Playmate 2 is a solid performer and should be considered in 2023.
Thanks for a great review Dave! I own a Hifiman Ananda and looking to get this Burson. Cool that you tried it! But I read the output is too great for some sensitive headphones like the Ananda (even in low gain) so the volume control doesn’t really work. Ie you max out the headphone at volume level 1 or something, which sorta makes it a deal breaker... Is this something you noticed while testing it?
As mentioned in the review, I enjoyed the Ananda with the Playmate 2. The Playmate 2 does struggle with sensitive gear, especially IEM's and dynamic drivers. I found it paired fairly well with most planar but not the Empyrean. But the pairing with the Ananda was enjoyable.
Thank you mate
My pleasure, you're welcome
Is it a DAC or an amp? I mean: if it's a Dac, does Burson offer an amp to create a set (a combo) ? And also : will my Beyerdynamic DT-990 Pro 250 ohms work with it?
Clearly described in the video as a DAC, Amp and PreAmp all-in-one. Please watch the video for more details.
From your memory of the lcdx 2021 . Do you think the burson playmate 2 will pair well with those headphones ?
Yeah that should be a solid pairing.
Hi Mr David, do you think the newest revision of LCD2s would pair well with the playmate? If not do you thin kthe dx7 Pro plus will? Thank you!!
I haven't heard either is a good while but I think the Playmate would be a good pairing.
@@TheHonestAudiophile thank you!
My pleasure, you're welcome.
Burson owner,good amp.
Absolutely 💯
Is it good for speakers too or only headphones? I have dali rubicon 2 to a dragonfly red and looking to upgrade.
Sorry I don't know, I don't recall using it with my powered speakers.
@@TheHonestAudiophile Okay but would it make sense? Or does there exist dacs only for speakers?
@@blax100dk sorry I am not really the person to answer that question. I am not a speaker person. I am very much a noob in that area.
@@TheHonestAudiophile Thanks for the reply, don't worry I am a noob too. :P

@@TheHonestAudiophile Thank you for giving me links sir 💯
My pleasure, you're welcome 😊
Do you think it would pair well with Audeze LCD 2?
I don't recall hearing that pairing but it should be able to power the LCD-2, probably on hi-gain.
What do you think are the difference you have heard between the Playmate 2 and the Conductor 3x Performance on your Ananda?
how is it for Hifiman headphones such as Anada's or Nano
I havent heard the Playmate 2 since I reviewed it, had to return it as it was a loaner. I make mention of gear I used it with in the video. I've not heard the Nano.
Did you try to set it to low gain for IEM's/low impedance headphones?
Yes I tried all the different gain settings.
Hey just had a question.... Can it be used to drive Hifiman Arya or should I just go with another amp. Thanks
I would think so but I didn't have an opportunity to test that pairing.
It can comfortably yes.
How this if compare to a more affordable dac/amp with mic which is Schiit Hel 2?
Haven't heard the Schiit Hel 2, sorry.
I'm looking for something to match the Arya v2's would this work?
Haven't heard either in a long time and didn't hear that pairing but I'd think it would be solid.
@@TheHonestAudiophile Thanks for replying and keep up the good work!
My pleasure, you are welcome.
how do you connect to the iphone 13 pro with this?
Sorry no experience or knowledge with IOS device, Burson customer support should be able to help.
35000hz? so it is not hi res???
High-resolution audio is a term for audio files with greater than 44.1 kHz sample rate or higher than 16-bit audio bit depth. It commonly refers to 96 or 192 kHz sample rates. However, there also exist 44.1 kHz/24-bit, 48 kHz/24-bit and 88.2 kHz/24-bit recordings that are labeled HD Audio.
I know Burson is an Australian company, but I believe their products are made in China. Can you confirm this? Thanks
I am not sure 100% of the location of manufacturing for Burson.
It's reasonable to assume if they were manufactured in Australia it would be noted on the website. Tangential information online seems to point to manufacturing and parts sourcing in Hong Kong and China. Take that for what it's worth, they seem to have a reputation for being well-built and well-designed regardless.
We don't build much in Australia any more the country has gone to hell
I bought the Burson Funk, it's shipping from HK.
@@dasninjastix Thanks, that's my conclusion as well. That makes Burson a no-go for me. I am sure that Burson makes nice products, but I don't buy Chinese-made products if I have other options.
its for gamers thats why its pushed the minds and high up so you can clearly hear the foot steps its takes your gaming to another level pared with high end head phones / akg 701/702 etc beyers / hd800s ,dont buy those shity headphones
