on the jobs that failed you missed some main tasks like painting the mech in the last one.

You may have already noticed, but you've been checking the wrong thing when completing a job (just the robot assembly instead of the list). You might want to pay more attention to your checklist because it was clearly missing a checkmark every time you rushed to hand in the jobs that you failed. All of those were for painting I think.
The dialog you clicked close on was him telling you to open the shop on your pc to buy the software and that it's an assembly station addon. Maybe trying that will remove the softlock in the tutorial? Kinda wish they'd have an option to open/view the tutorial task, so you can read what you have to do. >.<
When you purchased the calibration station I was dreading it a bit because I've read so many negative reactions about it, and nearly all of them about the controls, just like you said! It's a shame that the devs seem to completely disregard their players because their response so far has been "it's optional, don't like it, don't use the station."
But yeah, enjoying this playthrough so left a like as usual! Now to catch up with the rest of the games you're playing. :D

Clearly the mechs are held up by the same kind of anti grav field as the pieces you fix....
