Man, what a horrible game that Knuckles has found himself in. Like really, it's kinda nice to look at, but man is it dull. Almost completely irredeemable.

I like everything about Chaotix, except actually playing it. All in all, it just contributed more to the mountains of wasted potential to have a new, proper Sonic game for the Saturn.
The soundtrack still slaps.

I still agree with the theory that Sega knew the game was subpar and removed Sonic as a playable/title character just to make Knux the fall guy.
Even before the meta era, the memes and the constant reused "Knux gets tricked" plotline in various Sonic media, old red was always getting stiffed.

As someone who HAS played this because I found the cartridge in my house... yeah, it's just okay. Definitely not worth going after the original hardware for, that's for sure!
Edit: I guess I'm just 1/3 people in the multiverse with a 32x and Knuckles Chaotix lol.
I have a Game Shroom and Chaotix just to say I have all the Sonic games on the combined platform... yeah.
I played this game 2 player as a kid and it was super fun. It's much better than being Tails and being left behind all the time.
But I never played it again, and I've never played it solo.
So it will remain as a positive memory.

I must admit that my favourite thing about Chaotix is studying its development and various prototype versions rather than actually playing it.

Puzzle Bobble 3D in VR only interests me because of the idea of looking down and seeing cute little dragon hands. But then again I don't need to buy a PS4/5, VR accessories, and a video game to do that. I can just visit my local witch and commission a potion.

Once you get used to the weird gimmick+controls, Chaotix can be [briefly, mildly] fun. As you say, it's pretty empty and has questionable flow, but it's a mildly amusing distraction that's decent for a change of pace once in a blue moon. (Or should I say, once in a *"New Moon"* 😏.)

I’m calling this Chaotix 32X instead (Like Sonic CD), cause Knuckles isn’t the leader, Cybershell explained it.
As much personal respect I have for Knuckles Chaotix in introducing my favorite fictional character ever (Vector the Crocodile), at the end of the day I do agree that this game is sadly quite an underwhelming adventure of mediocrity. I will go as far to admit that in terms of overall quality, I would say Knuckles Chaotix is around on par to Sonic Forces. I will go even further to admit that overall, I might actually consider Sonic Forces a slightly better game than Chaotix because I would rather play a game that while feels super bland and boring due to its extremely linear narrow design, at least I can plow through the main campaign in a quick 2-3 hour session. Knuckles' Chaotix however can be quite the tedious slog not at all due to its difficulty (it's quite an easy breeze throughout like Forces actually) but rather it's repetition in playing through the same levels over and over again. Chaotix and Forces have opposite problems. Chaotix really overstays its welcome versus Forces which feels so barebones and incomplete that it leaves so much to be desired left hanging in limbo. As a crazy Chaotix nut, it hurts to express all these personal honest confessions and while I do not necessarily agree Chaotix is a bad game, I can understand why people would claim this. At least Chaotix has much more personality and colorful aesthetics than Forces does making the 32X classic feel like an epic fever dream! 😆
So yeah, I do agree that Knuckles' Chaotix did have the perfect art direction for the Sonic game series by which I hope the upcoming mainline 3D game, Sonic Frontiers brings back the fever dream aesthetics of Knuckles' Chaotix in glorious fashion.

I love the spriting in knuckles chaotix, especially metal sonics sprites, metal sonic looked terrifying in those sprites.
Knuckles’ Chaotix isn’t bad IMO. The combi ring while kind of frustrating, is kind of a good way to innovate (there is a Pro Action Replay code to disable the combi ring if you hate it.) the game is very beautiful and the OST is A M A Z I N G ! (My favourite is Speed of Sound) In fact, I would kind of recommend this game to newbies looking for a quick sonic game to pick up and finish in a couple hours. Sure it’s tedious as hell, but it kind of flies by. Also, mighty and espio is the best pair up in this game, hands down.
Eh, while I don't begrudge anyone who enjoys this game (I enjoy my huge share of blatantly bad, unfinished games), if I have to disable the game's core mechanic to enjoy it (and truth be told I still probably wouldn't), I'd never recommend it to anyone ever.
Truth be told, all of the terrible design decisions aside I think this game's biggest problem is that there's really just nothing to do for most of its runtime. But to each their own. It's not like they ever made any more of these, it's not hurting anyone by existing (except maybe Garrulous, lol).
Thing is, in amazing arena, You're forsed to turn the lights on... otherwise you gotta try again.
It is flawed, but I quite enjoy Knuckles' Chaotix. Of course, to do so, I treat it less like a Sonic game and more like just quick adaptations to the chaotic nature of the Ring Tether. Once I made this shift in paradigm, the game was fun in small doses.
In some ways, Chaotix is mechanically less broken than Sonic Heroes, which seems hell bent on randomly hurling you into every bottomless pit in every stage.
I played this game so many times. I thought it was super fun honestly.

This game has a good idea, it's just the fact they made it nonlinear and that's what killed this game, if you want to make a nonlinear game take cues from megaman, and DON'T MAKE IT 5 DAMN ACTS A LEVEL!
Why did this game even put 4 original characters in it rather than just having the cast be Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy and Fang? They wanted 5 characters for the game, besides heavy and bomb, and there were 5 non-robot, non-human Sonic characters.
Some of these characters were actually from early concepts of sonics where he originally had a band, and vector the crocodile was one of them along with charmy bee, espio was an original character created for the game. And the reason the game has knuckles as the main star is because the devs knew that the 32x was going to crash and burn and so didn't want to put a genuine sonic title on it.
Ah, that game. As J's Reviews said in "Being a Happy Sonic Fan in 2021", (besides Adventure, Rush, the Comics and fan games) why be a Sonic fan when the franchise continously makes you upset?

I have played knuckles chaotix through [TOTALLY LEGIT METHODS] just to see what it was like and...I mean I like the chaotix but that's all I can say. Considering Sega used knuckles instead of sonic for this game it makes me question how much faith they had it in, kinda feels like giving your little brother the off-brand controller.
If you want to move past Sonic, I'm open to other content. Metroid maybe?

at this point there's really only pretty decent - good Sonic games that you have yet to review, you know, other than the one.

Ah, yes. The official Forces tag-team-inspired fan game that came out long before Forces was even being workshopped. Where you don’t even have a choice to play as Sonic even though it’s a Sonic game, but are still required to control two characters on your own. Presumably because your friends all ostracized you for even considering having them help you play such a bad game.
This game reminds me of the South Park episode "Super Fun Time" where Butters won't let go of Cartman's hand.

Great sprite work, great music... but when it comes to the main area of forced 2 player via the linked rings that is a 50/50 which will either make you love or hate the game. I like the game myself because it's a pace change from the other 2D sonic games, so every now and then I load it up and bounce around levels for thirty minutes or so then turn it off.
It's more than I do with Sonic 1 on the Genesis/Mega Drive which is... play Green Hill zone then turn the game off (less than 2 minutes play.) Because all other stages than Green Hill are simply an annoying drag.
I think gameapologist might disagree with you. He did do 2 months dedicated to this game after all

I feel like this game gets more hate than it deserves I find it really fun to zoom past the levels with the rubber band and the different characters and combinations how levels are randomly selected I actually really like this game it’s a shame when people don’t see this game in the light I do
