      I bought one that as low/medium/high function. There is no less/normal /more. I'm confused about which one to use to make the yogurt. All the recipes I've seen says select "normal" and 'high'. Is it safe to assume normal is medium in the instant pot duo?

    The Instant Pot is single-handedly saving my marriage 😂 It has motivated me to cook more, because if I forget to thaw the meat, no problem; if I let the cooking for too late, no problem; if I’m too tired to cook, no problem; and the food is always cooked just right. Now my husband finds warm homemade food on the table every day no matter the circumstances of my day. No more takeout, waiting, or arguing. For those of us that are challenged at cooking and not very fond of it, this appliance is a life saver. I LOVE my Instant Pot!

    I bought my first pot 2 months ago. I didn't know if I would like it, so I didn't want to risk an expensive purchase, so I was thinking about the Duo model. When I finally made up my mind, it turned out that the Duo Crisp was on sale, so I only added a few pounds and bought this one. And it was a great choice! I use it very often for cooking and baking or roasting. Broth in 1.5 hours (I count the time needed for steam release), where before I cooked it for 4-5 hours, delicious meat, soft and juicy. Soups, goulash, baked potatoes or chicken or ham. This device is amazing and I recommend it to everyone. The first cooking was a bit scary, but now it is as intuitive and stress-free as cooking in regular pots. And the time saving, life changer! You throw in the ingredients and forget about it. After 40-60 minutes you take out the ready, delicious, juicy food.

    Thank you for taking the time to explain the differences so clearly. That will be useful to so many people. I've used the 6 qt. DUO since 2016. The only thing I use the Slow-Cook function for is dried beans, and it works beautifully for that. The same cannot be said for the PRO model, because the cooking temperatures are too uneven. However, the sous-vide function on the PRO works perfectly for that. Even temperature throughout cooking. When my DUO dies, I'm getting the PRO.

    • @CookingandCalm
      @CookingandCalm  13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes, I rarely use slow cooking myself as I love pressure cooking. I saw a video from @helen rennie about this sous video method for beans so that sounds good! As long as I remember, I pre-soak beans in brine and find I get a good result that way using pressure cooking function, but I'm also not too worried if some are squished :)

    Just used my new Pro, after using a Duo for years that needed replacing. All the things you said, the adjustable sauté temp, the pot w handles so it can be removed from the heating element immediately and be used on the stove, the bit more power, AND the flat bottom are so much more convenient. I was going to get another 6qt Duo bc they are only $70, but the Pro is $100 (Black Friday promos) and the upgrades for just $30 are totally worth it.

      For some reason, the Pro has been withdrawn here in the UK so the jump is to Pro Plus and (even in the sales)about $100 equivalent which is a lot, especially for beginners not sure if they’ll use it. I am so pleased to hear you’re happy with the upgrade and hopefully many more years of Instant Potting with the Pro. It’s a great Instant Pot

    I loved the old pressure cooker with the rattler on top. Put the lid on and when done, wait for the rattle to stop. I purchased an Instant pot two years ago and have yet to use it because of all the buttons to learn, lol.

      @CookingandCalm  13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes, I used those old ones too but honestly, don't worry about all the buttons. I mainly set the time manually every time - pressure cook, high or low then the time and start. Done. It's a bit like the washing machine- a thousand settings but most of us use the same one every time :)

    I am not a cook and am looking for gadgets that can help me with the cooking process and came to know of instant pots found your video and learnt quite a bit 😊. Being a student money is definitely an issue. You mentioned that these pots are mainly for pressure cooking and slow cooking steaming are add-ons and may not work great sometimes. My question is if I buy just a simple pressure cooker the old traditional ones then do I at all need this kind of a fancy sensor controlled pots? For people like me a small dedicated pressure cooker and a kitchen top small oven would suffice?

    • @CookingandCalm
      @CookingandCalm  วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi there, I'd say especially if you're not a big cook, old style pressure cookers are much harder to use and although the Instant Pots aren't 100% at everything, they are pretty good at a lot. I think in your circumstances, I might go for an entry level Instant Pot like the Duo Plus range. The really great thing about them is that you can set and forget and don't have to hang around in the kitchen and they have loads of safety mechanisms to switch off if you make a mistake or something is burning ( I would never leave a stovetop pressure cooker personally). Because the Instant Pot also sautes , it doubles up as a pan for reheating food or cooking up something without pressure too. They are great for rice. Slow cooking, not so much though it can be done. You can save a lot of money on cheaper cuts of meat, cooking dried beans etc and soups and stews are a great way to save money and much quicker in the Instant Pot.
      I rarely use my oven these days and am a big fan of air fryers. I cook a lot from scratch and do most my cooking in Instant Pot and a large Air Fryer. My sis has a microwave that's also a mini oven and that can work too. Hope that helps and good luck!

    • @CookingandCalm

      Hi 👋 and thank you. I haven't had any problems at all pressure cooking in the Pro Crisp 8Q. My standard Pro is a 6Q so I haven't got any info no the 8Q but again, not heard any issues here and people do tend to share.
      Functionality wise they are a bit different with the Crisp having the AirFry and Dehydrate etc functions etc as it has that 2nd lid. The Pro (at least here in the UK) has the customisable buttons on the front and is a little different to the Pro Crisp. Here's my 6 month review on the Pro 6Q in case it helps th-cam.com/video/WxrbMFXSR38/w-d-xo.html

    Hi Susan - thanks for all your great videos. What do you think about Instant Pot Duo Plus Whisper Quiet? - I was unable to find a video on that model. It seems the best choice although it's not the cheapest ;) I know the inner pot has no handles but it's possible to buy a separate ceramic pot unlike in Pro and other models with pots with handles.

    • @CookingandCalm
      @CookingandCalm  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hi Paul, I've literally only started testing it this week but like you, I like the look of it on paper as a good model for many wich is why I decided to get one and test it. I have done the water test and made a beef shin stew in it last night and those went well. I got mine for £99 and that felt like a good price point given it has the enhanced digital display and adjustable sauté. There is a plastic cover over the steam release area you might have spotted on the video - as a regular user, I'm not sure what I think of this yet as I'm so used to being able to see what's going on, but I'll reserve judgement on that and see if I get used to it. Very early days but hope it gives you an idea. It's also lighter as the lid has more plastic than metal so if you're lifting and carrying it, a bit easier.

    I didn't realise the Pro Plus (canning) model was in the UK now. £150 seems very reasonable for that capability. I already have a massive stovetop pressure canner, but have thought about getting something for smaller batches.
    My first Instant Pot had wifi. I *loved* that it had Wifi. Mostly because I'm hard of hearing. To me, the instant pot was silent. The only sound it made that I could hear was when I did the pressure release. The wifi let me monitor what was going on inside the instant pot. It also provided a graph of the temperature that the IP was at and for how long. (If I were ever to use an IP for canning, I'd really want this feature.). The wifi app would give me a notification if a burn notice was triggered. It also made it super easy to do a delay start for any sort of foods that I didn't want to have start right away (like oatmeal for the morning, rice for dinner, beans, etc). We now have a newer Instant Pot Duo Crisp (no wifi) and I now have hearing aids and I can hear all the noises that our instant pot makes, I never realised how noisy it is lol.

    Hello Thanks for your videos. They are very informative. I am in the market for a multi cooker. I am looking at the Ip Duo Plus whisper quite, but the downfall on this modal is not having the handles on the liner as on the pro modals 🥶, but I like the interface. I would love to be able vary the temperature if possible when using the sauté. The pro modals are rather expensive!
    I have used a pressure cooker in the past. And my main aim is to use a Multicooker for soups stews, pasta dishes, although I have an air fryer but I also fancy the duo crisp for browning the pasta dishes Their are so many models what a decision . I just cannot make up my mind 😂

    • @CookingandCalm
      @CookingandCalm  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Oh I feel your pain. I've never felt there's been a 'perfect pot' for me either so it's working out which compromise is 'least bad'. Apart from the Ultimate Lid, I've been super happy with all of them for pressure cooking . The handles and that fancier inner pot are great but as you say, it's substantially more expensive and adding adjustable saute to the whisper quiet is a very good move. I think you'll really love the Instant Pot having used manual pressure cookers and with your food preferences (as I had). So much easier all round that whichever one you get, you'll likely feel very happy! The handles might be more of a priority if you have problems with hands, lifting etc. I've probably confused you more but wishing you well whichever one you choose and thanks so much for saying hello!

    • @CookingandCalm
      @CookingandCalm  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Oh I know, it's torture! Well done for making a decision. I haven't got that one but have the 'normal Pro' which is one step down and a very good pressure cooker. The inner pot is higher quality stainless steel and oven and hob safe too so it does give you some flexibility too. I was reassured to hear that if you don't want to use the wifi, it has all the normal buttons too. Let me know how you get on with it if you get a chance! It's great when people share their experiences here so we can all learn from each other. 🙌

    • @CookingandCalm
      @CookingandCalm  6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi there, by default, the Whisper Quiet will have 'keep warm' set. This means the cooker will just keep your food warm rather than cooking if that is on and it will slowly release steam if on pressure cook. This is how I use it most of the time rather than immediately releasing steam. Works really well for soups, stews, slow braises, chicken etc which can sit and no worries at all. If I was pressure cooking broccoli or something delicate though, I'd switch off keep warm and make sure I was there to let the steam out straight away.
      I hope that helps. If I've misunderstood come back to me 👍

    Instant pot requires a lot of experimentation to get the food cooked just the right doneness for your taste preference. I have found it’s the only way to cook Artichokes in 1/3 the time needed by stovetop steamer. I have a prized 10 quart Duo Nova model (discontinued) I use to pressure cook 4 Jumbo sized Artichoke to perfection in 30 minutes. I also have a 6 quart model and a air fryer lid.
    Slow cookers tend to cook out all the flavor of the food in contrast to pressure cooking.

    Thanks

    • @CookingandCalm
      @CookingandCalm  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi there, thank you 😊
      In general on baking:
      -Duo CRISP:basically has an air fryer lid so you can in theory 'bake' in the way you can with other air fryers but check the sizing for your baking tins as they need some clearance around them and make a foil sling so you can lift out without burning your hands. Also remember it is an airfryer so it runs hot and may burn the top if too close. I don't really bake so not an expert, but have baked dog biscuits and a small batch of 2 bread rolls in my duo crisp and they came out fine, but size is definitely limited. I used a dehydrating stacking rack for the dog biscuits so multi-layer
      - EVO: I've not tried it but I'm guessing the Evo bake function will be fine for steamed things like cheesecakes, steamed puddings (they all are as it's pressure cooking really) but might be more tricky for baking not under pressure. I looked on a facebook group I'm part of for you and one person did cook brownies on the non pressure setting- said it took ages but worked eventually.Not many people bake in the non airfryer versions.
      NON STICK etc - for both machines you can use your own baking tins as long as they are oven safe and fit with clearance around the edge. The Crisp has a ceramic airfryer basket but you don't have to put your food in there - you can use whatever works for you as long as it's good for an oven.
      I hope that helps 👍

      @CookingandCalm  6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi there Emily, I don't cook beef often but I hear good things about using sous vide in the Instant Pot for topside but I haven't done it personally. I've mainly just seared it then cooked in the oven - I'm a big fan of a meat thermometer and a long rest period after cooking. I usually follow BBC good food or Jamie Oliver methods and timings if that helps.Maybe try googling that or one of your favourite chef's and see what you find. I should try that sous vide method- I'll put on my list.

    Brilliant videos. Love your voice.
    Did you consider other brands like Ninja? If yes, any thoughts on other brands.

      Thank you so much. Yes definitely.
      Instant Pot were the first ones with the pressure cooking focus in UK but I do like Ninja as a brand - what I don't like is the non-stick pots for pressure cooking that are in Ninja's and when I talked to them they said they wouldn't be offering stainless steel so that's put me off (I don't love non stick which is a personal choice and I'm not one for using non-branded inner pots when pressure cooking cos of the tight tolerances and high pressure but I'm a risk averse type). I have got that big Ninja multicooker with the thermometer to see what it's like but I had to put it away as we moved into a little flat with open plan and it's too heavy to carry about and we couldn't hear TV- it's very loud. When we get moved to a place with separate kitchen I'll try it again. If my focus wasn't pressure cooking, I think I'd explore Ninja more, I don't think that's their strength so far and someone told me they're moving away from the pressure cooking side.

    My son & his wife gifted me their instant pot I think it’s 6qt she threw the book out😢 I need the book can you tell me how to get one.?.?? It looks like yours next to your big one… I don’t know what model

      I suspect it is an early Duo if it's not obvious- the one on my video is one of the first UK version of the Duo. Have you had a really good look yet for any small print on the front with a model name or number or inside the lid or under where the inner pot sits? If nothing there, you could take a photo of the Instant Pot Control panel then reverse image search on google or just search for images of the Instant Pot Duo or Duo Plus and compare as a first attempt. The buttons changed as there use to be a 'more ' less' button on some and that might pin it down. Once you've got your model , the Instant Pot Site for your country have downloadable manuals so that will help. Let me know where you are if you have any problems and I'll send you the link to the manuals. Also, you could take a photo and ask Instant Pot help people - I'm sure they'll know.

    I can't make chili in mine. Keeps saying burn on display. Once opened there is no burn.

    • @CookingandCalm
      @CookingandCalm  23 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Thats common but usually very fixable. Have a look at this video. I suspect with chilli it’s either a deglaze problem ( scrape away all crispy bits on bottom before putting lid on) or the tinned tomatoes. The vid explains - hope it helps

      @CookingandCalm yes. I did look under pot and there was two areas I cleaned

    • @CookingandCalm
      @CookingandCalm  23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      If it’s not deglaze issue ( see video) try adding bit more liquid and add tinned tomatoes on top without stirring - stir later and that should stop ‘the burn’. Good luck with it 👍

    What about the Rio?

    • @CookingandCalm
      @CookingandCalm  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi there, yes I haven't had a Rio personally as very new here but what I say in the video is basically for you to decide what's most important to you then check out if the particular model fits with you and how you like to cook, size of kitchen space etc. From memory, I think the Rio 6Q has a slightly smaller footprint than some of the others and the big one is more low and wide. ope that helps

    I still use my Instant Pot (6-quart) that I got in 2014 several times a week. I don't trust the presets, so I never use them. I bought an Instant Pot mini in 2017 because it was so darn cute, but I hardly ever used it. I would not recommend a mini as a starter. You will really limit yourself. Also, I've never felt the need for an 8-quart size. Those pressure cooker-air fryer combination ones look monstrous. It would Not fit in my kitchen. I think Instant Pot had to make them because Ninja started the fad, and IP was losing sales. Thank you for the videos.

    Instant pot is a brand name of a pressure cooker

  • @qualitytraders5333
    @qualitytraders5333 28 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

    There's confusion about the terminology. Those pots are definitely not "instant". Nothing in cooking is done instantaneously. I prefer pressure cooker. Two basics: pressure and temperature. The higher the pressure, the higher the temperature and the faster the cooking.

      I agree. I loved the old pressure cooker. Turn up or turn down the heat and wait for the rattler to stop! So much simpler.

    Here is the good and the bad with your channel.
    The good: Very thorough reviews of cooking equipment, good job.
    The bad: Disabling dislikes shows that you can't handle criticism as well as you can ditch it out.
    This is a reasonable red flag for a lot of viewers.
