Hey, my art friend, I am not sure whether this is an art studio or a fancy Man Cave. Seriously, I am thrilled for you that you have achieved your forever studio. You deserve it for the blessing you've been to all of us for so long. It must feel wonderful to be able to finally hang your art treasures in a gallery space. And your own work fits right in with them!
Thank you so much 😀
Amazing family sir. You daughter sounds like she has endless energy, which is hard for a mom of 2 for sure. Like your new studio layout - looks like a great place to escape to.
Congratulations to your daughter and your illustration makes the novel even more special. An amazing family project!
That space is awesome. We will expect you to be power painting. Thanks for the tour and memories.
Congratulations on your new creative space! May the force be with you!
Awesome studio! Congratulations on your new space and to your daughter for her first published book!!
What an inspiring space. Completely worthy of you work.
Steve I changed my handle but it’s Jennie. I am truly thrilled about all the exciting news, your daughter’s new accomplishments with her book and nursing career. I came from working there and there is such a need for knowledgeable, compassionate and assertive nurses. I love the book cover. It really is beautiful to see our families grow and their interests, it never is boring. I noticed your Tron sign and remember that game well, the original. It looks like your room is getting filled with what makes you comfortable. I wanted to mention that there are so many different age groups that have hardly any supplies and to be able to give to them, they appreciate it so much. It isn’t about being recognized, far from it as you well know , but to see the astounding work that is done with supplies that I really wouldn’t use myself but that are perfect for others brings so much joy. I have been floored by just giving 10 minutes to help a 12 yr old in sketching that the work in some old oil paints just took my breath away and other. I really find so much joy and remember seeing the same joy that others felt about me with only having 12 Crayons until I received my first gift of a set of real 1950s metal set 8 colors caked saturated beauty. Certainly what you have been able to do has been on a larger scale and I certainly hope that your room is what you need and like to accommodate ourselves physically as we age and to continue with your goals. Many thanks for your encouragement. 🎉😊
What a wonderful new room Steve! Fellow Sci-Fi / Fantasy fan. I too saw Star Wars in the theatre in '77 with my future hubby when I was just 16. It was life changing for me as I went on to sculpt and paint custom figures, create dioramas in my collection room and because of that was hired to work for an online Star Wars fan site. That led to my working and presenting at Star Wars Celebrations, meeting many of the actors (including Carrie Fisher), Lucasfilm staff and visiting Skywalker Ranch. If you ever want to see a bit of my geekdom, I have a Star Wars tour video on my TH-cam channel. Thanks for sharing Steve - always been a fan of your awesome art.
Congratulations Steve on the illustration and the new studio.
Congratulations to Angel for her newly published book! How exciting that she asked you to do the cover. It looks fantastic!
WOW! Your studio looks great and congrats to you and your daughter! 🙂
Great video. I saw the original Star Wars in June of 1977. Wow, when that Corillion battle cruiser came into the scene from the top - well I was hooked. And Sir Alec Guiness, wow. Help me Obi Wan, you’re our only hope.
I think we need a palette tour next 😏😁
I remember the original Star wars and we were blown away, even me, who was not a act to fan. It was amazing.
Love your new studio space, Steve. My Social Studies teacher - a really cool guy - took our entire class to see Star Wars when it first came out as a “field trip” to a large theater in Los Angeles (can’t remember which one). The theater had put in a new Dolby Sound system which rocked our world and I still remember my feeling of awe when the movie started and that powerful text scrolled up the screen. It was an incredible experience.
So proud of your daughter! That’s excellent!
Ooo how great! I will share her book with the family. It sounds like a good read and the cover looks lovely.
Beautiful studio! I hope you never have to move it again! (Unless you want to.)
The cover reminds me of the Jewels Vern”s 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. I don’t know why it just gives me that vibe. That’s not a bad thing because I think it’s very beautiful and congratulations. We must be so proud of your daughter.
Such an awesome post!! Your daughter sounds like a very special woman. And… your studio is off the charts. Congratulations to Dad and daughter .
Your studio looks very organized and functional! Also beautiful! I am sure you are having a ball at PACE!
Yes! Thank you! Got back a couple days ago. Loved it.
The new studio looks great! Outstanding job of organizing. Looks like it can be a very relaxing place. Congratulations to Angel 👏🏽.
Nice to see this father-daughter collaboration. The cover art is great, as are the spontaneous paintings.
I love the way you have your studio so organized. It's well worth it to take the time to do that at the start to make life easier down the road.
Nice to see another Justin Gerard fan. His wife, Annie Stegg, also does amazing work 👍
Yes she does!
Love the new studio! Congratulations.
I saw the original Star Wars in a real movie theater in 1977. My mom had read in the newspaper (yeah!) about this new film and took all five of her children to see it in downtown Philadelphia. It was amazing! Today my grandchildren are big Star Wars fans, too -- we watched the latest episode with them and it was so interesting how into it they were.
Have fun at PACE!
You have a fabulous area..to create all your fantastic art! Congratulations to your daughter too
Wow, thank you for sharing everything with us Steve, so cool and well done to Angel on her book. Such a great place to hang out in. Star Wars was so huge, I remember that. When it was first released I missed it thanks to my mate who read the times in the paper. We didn't have a lot of money, so going to the pictures was a big deal. Anyway, I got to the cinema on the very last day it was showing, bought our tickets and went in. There were kids everywhere. Then, it went dark and after the shorts, the movie started....Instead of Star Wars, we saw 'The magic of Lassie.' We weren't happy lol. My mate got the right times, just the wrong cinema. It was over 10 years before I got to see Star Wars...
the posters look really cool framed like that! I love the Indiana jones one
Bought the book before you even put it back down on the table. :) Can't wait to read it. Congratulations to your daughter.
Congrats to daughter #3 and your cover art, amazing!
Your new studio is so well organized and beautiful! You're going to LOVE the Etchr satchel.
Thank you for sharing. My husband and I saw Star Wars while dating as well. Awesome studio and wonderful walk down memory lane.
You and I have the same studio décor! I’m envious of Darth Tater and Spider Spud😂 My figurines include Padmé, Mr. Fantastic, and Mike, Sully & Boo from Monsters, Inc. Im also surrounded by comic art and greatly enamored of their styles.
Congrats to your daughter! I’ll look for the book-how exciting! Your son-in-law’s Mandeloroan is fantastic, too.
Your artwork is inspirational, Steve. Thank you for this tour. I am also in the process of a studio re-do. It’s a labor of love, that’s for certain.
I enjoy your stories-we are both at the same phase in life and I, too, remember the wonder of seeing the original Star Wars in ‘77. At the moment Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker fought with light sabers, the audience was enraptured with the amazing technology on film before us. We had never seen anything like it at all-special effects like that just didn’t exist.
At that moment, the film burned (another phenomenon younger generations may never have experienced) and the entire audience gasped! Then just as suddenly, we all collectively sighed, realizing the firey effects weren’t the work of George Lucas, but merely an overheating projector😂.
PACE looked amazing-I’m hoping to attend the next one 🤞🏼
Thanks again!
Congrats on the book! and the Art 😊
Awesome studio and congratulations to Angel. 😀
Congrats on your daughter's book! Great artwork from a great artist!
My 1st date with my then boyfriend was Star Wars - 1997! Now celebrating 44years!
Great things happening in your family!
I'm eating my heart out, Steve. But for you it is well-deserved.
Thanks so much Vaughn! Good to hear from you.
I love your studio. What a beautiful place to work! Congratulations. Thanks for the memories.
Thank you for the new studio tour and for sharing memories from Star Wars, Tron, Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, and of course LoTR. You are a great storyteller and give me a sense of nostalgia for a time that I was too little to fully comprehend but appreciate dearly now as an adult artist and mother.
I know that you will have an amazing time at PACE and hope you have time for photographs to inspire future works. I grew up in that mountain range; nothing provides more inspiration or brings me closer to God than the Smokies and beautiful Blue Ridge.
Thanks for this tour! What a wonderful environment in which to create! I just got done with a long project at work & am planning to reward myself by binge-watching your videos over on Patreon. Will also check out your dauther's book!
You are exactly right about Star Wars. I saw it in '77, before the word got out in my town and the lines got long. People said at the time that "Star Wars has changed movies forever" and IMO they were right; even the scrolling title sequence was so new and different.
Re: TLotR - The 1977 poster of Gandalf by Al (Alvin) Hudson was always my mental image of Mithrandir. But mostly I avoid seeing images (including movies!) of Tolkien's stories: want to keep "my vision" of characters and settings "pure" LOL. One painting I've always loved is "The Last Shore" by Tim Kirk. Wish I knew where to get a larger print of that - it's kind of my lodestone for decorating my house.
Re: artists who start with physical media then move to digital - Have you seen the illustrations D.M. Cornish did for his YA novel trilogy "Monster Blood Tattoo"? Great stories supported well by his illustrations; fyi not scary: a good plot with wholesome meanings.
Thanks Steve! eSee you on Patreon!
Congratualtions to your daughter for writing a novel! The cover is so interesting love the perspective and colors. Your studio turend out really nice looks very comfy too.
Awesome cover for her novel!
Shout out to Angel for all of her recent accomplishments as well!
How nice to see your working place 🙏🏻 thanks for sharing it and everything you said about your family and your daughter is heartwarming in those days of uncertainty 🤗 please continue to push up us forward in our quest for good painting 😊❤
TRON was an amazing movie for its" time. Still one of my favorites. Your looks great. You are inspiring me to clean up my studio to make it look more organized.
Such a great studio. And I loved the chat about pop culture and your inspirations!
Glad you enjoyed it!
What a wonderful space! I love it. Thank you for the tour. I am making every effort not to be jealous, but I am super happy for you! Congrats.
That is such a beautiful studio!!! Such an inspiration. Congratulations on the book too.
So many cool things going on for you! Your studio is awesome and seems like a great creative space. Congratulations to your daughter for her book - with an awesome illustration - and for her nursing degree! 💐 That is no small feat and we desperately need good people in healthcare. Looking forward to a video about your experience at PACE. Thanks for being such an inspiration 😘
Looks like an interesting book so I've added it to my reading list. You have a great space there. I'm hoping that eventually we'll all have a comfortable and inspiring workspace here too. Our daughter and I are crowded into the dining room part of our open plan kitchen/dining/lounge so wall space is scarce and we really need to figure out better storage. Our daughter's into art, crafts and sewing, I'm painting and writing and learning digital art. Our son is doing a bit of digital art and gaming in one corner of the lounge and has a collection of things downstairs. My hubby is working on model railway and woodworking plans and gaming on a desk in another corner of the lounge. We're all into something different but we manage to fit everyone's interests into that open plan space, somehow without getting on each others nerves 😂
thank you for sharing your studio and your love for these films and artists. it's so great to see how you've settled into the new space 😊 i love that verse as well, i was just thinking of that one in particular, thanks for always putting scripture at the end of your videos ❤
Congrats to you and your family. What great news.
Wow-what a wonderful new art studio! PS I love Lord of the Rings too😊
Enjoyed the update and a walk back into the 70's. Congrats to your daughter. Thanks for sharing your "dad" side with us. Enjoy the conference.
Thanks, will do!
Congratulations to your daughter! Looks like she found her art too!! 🎉❤
1977. Hearing you share Star Wars and the awe it created makes me smile. My husband and I were newlyweds and that was the first movie as husband and wife. We Boomers were optmists and dreamers.
Man, your studio is a dream! ❤
This is so friggin cool! I’m so happy for you, your daughter, and your family! Congrats! Totally gonna check out the book!
I love your art studio, it’s magnificent 👌 I do art as well for 30 years and I gotta say, I’ve never seen an art studio like that before, it’s really neat 👌
Your new studio looks incredible. And of course I will check out your daughter's book. It sounds right up my alleyway.
An yes it looks GREAT. GREAT JOB ❤
I was 7 in 1977 when my aunt took me to see STAR WARS. I could tell you where I sat in the theater. I would go to garage sales and found the "toys"
I am reading Lifted and loving it. Your daughter is a talented writer. I had to laugh when one of the characters said her last name was “Christmas.” My mother’s family name was indeed Christmas and believe it or not I had an aunt named Mary Christmas!
Thanks for the kind comment. I'll pass it along.
@@mindofwatercolor Several of my family members are ordering the book. I hope she continues to write because she does have a gift. I read at least 5 books a month, when I am not dabbling in watercolor, and hers is right up there with the best of the authors n
Thanks for the tour of the new fabulous studio. I’m always looking for a good used table myself. I need a new chair now because mine won’t adjust the height any more. I enjoy your channel a lot.
Your studio is perfect. Now I am off to get the book! Got it, now I am back to see the rest of your post!!
Thanks so much!
Great studio tour.
But the guitar wasn't mentioned.
Thank you.
62 years old and can relate. $700 for a VHS player in 84, a big splurge for us. Hated to take all the tapes to the thrift store. Never could replace that collection. Just finished a Star Wars cantina acrylic painting for myself. Have a Star Trek one planned next. Thanks for the tour and memories.
My buddies and I drove to Hollywood 8 times to see Star Wars in those giant theaters there that held seemingly thousands. Great times!!!
Congratulations on the book of your daughter’s!🎊 Yes I am fond of the Star Wars movies 🎥 & later the Harry Potter Movies crazy! As a Boomer I introduced my kids to the Harry Potter books 📚 & movies. The new studio is awesome how you have it set up. Gives me inspiration & hope to get my shed turned into my own art studio soon if not the spare bedroom in our house. Thanks for sharing this with us!
Congrats to your daughter!! Very beautiful cover 😊.
Thanks for sharing how you guys felt about Star Wars when it was released. I was born much later so I missed (thankfully) the horrible lull in American cinema, so until now I did not fully appreciate why start Wars was so iconic. I always thought it was the fantasy and the visuals.
Congratulations💓💥
❤ your new space! I will have to check out your daughter's book. Congratulations to you both! I remember when Star Wars came out and the long lines! Good times indeed!
Love your new studio especially all the awesome decor! The original Star Wars is one of my favorites as well. Thank you so much for inviting us for a tour.
It only takes one piece to unintentionally start a collection LOL. Then everyone just gives the rest to you as gifts! Great to see your new studio.
This studio literally looks like heaven haha. Congratulations to you and your Daughter!
Hullo Steve, thanks for sharing your wonderful studio space! An amazing work area with delirious inspirational items everywhere you look! I have the smallest bit of jealousy for the people who can continue to support others on Patreon! I had to give up my Patreon support payments as My income simply is not what it was. I am excited for you and your family it is glorious to see them advance in their lives and know that you are a small or large part of that. I hope you enjoy your time at PACE and can share just a bit with your subscribers and followers, good luck!
Thanks for the tour of your sanctum sanctorum! It is nice to work in an environment where you are surrounded by memories of times past. Do you ever regret that due to lack of space you have to get rid of some things? Well, it happens to me and sometimes I regret being too rash. Hope you'll enjoy your new studio for many years. And may the force be with you!
Rarely. If in doubt I keep it.
What a wonderful art cave you have where you can be inspired to create as you have inspired so many. Congratulations to your daughter for her book and for becoming a nurse. Both great accomplishments. How exciting Angel asked you to do the illustration for her book cover. Such great things happening for you and your family. Thanks for sharing.
Great tour. So cool to see your setup and I dig all your decorations! Totally jealous, my studio currently is currently mobile in a box, get set up on the kitchen table then torn down again when I'm done for the day. Hope to soon to change that situation. Congrats on your daughters book and the cover art is super. Have a great time at PACE!
Awwwh. Can’t watch. I’m so envious of your space. I have one very messy desk
And that’s the cleanest my space will ever be.
Congrats to your daughter, you must be soo proud. That"s a very special piece of art for her book. wow. Love the new studio tour . I have the same thoughts on the first STAR WARS movie...it was so totally unique and caught everyone's attention. Even the Vinyl album was and still is great. 👏🎵🎵
Very nice tour! Congratulations to your daughter as well! I remember seeing Star Wars back when it first came out ..that was an incredible movie! You mentioned everything but that classical guitar..do you play?
A little.
I love that picture you did on the stretcher bar!
Congrats to Angel that is super awesome!!
Love the new studio!
Interesting
Congratulations on the new space and daughter’s achievements. Would love to know more about the Otto stretcher. Looked at the link but not much info.
Did an episode on them a few weeks ago. Check it out.
Your creative space is beautiful and looks so functional. May I ask about your chair? It looks comfortable and I'd like to know more please, thank you. I had a back fusion and struggle with chairs ( I own 3) thanks, Diana
Saw SW in 77 at the Cineramadome jn LA. 70 mm (?) Sitting in the theater with the Star Destroyer coming over your head cannot and has not been duplicated . Ex worked for Disney and one of the perks was going to the studio to see movies before they were released Tron. That and free admission to Disneyland - with access to underground and just dropping in for lunch at the Blue Bayou. Love your new studio space. Your Star Wars T-shirts were one of the reasons I started watching your channel. I stayed for the art. Thank you for sharing your work and I forgive you for making me feel old. 😎 '77 I was 24.
Every five minutes felt like the base of an entire conversation! I just want to park myself in your studio for a week! Each area has so much to explore. ❤
(My Dear Husband and I are both seniors, and our fifth wedding anniversary was May the Fourth. I had a Millennium Falcon groom's cake made. 😁)
Loved the tour of your studio & the fact I noticed I own a lot of the same books that are on your shelves 😊. And I paint miniatures too. 😅
Ordered the book. Will receive it Tuesday. I expect to enjoy it. Thanks for the recommendation.
Thanks so much!
what do you think has changed that it's so tough to have more children nowadays? When you were talking about that vhs I've been thinking (and I've been wondering has it been the same) how much money it takes to raise a kid and it's like comparing cost of a house to cos of a key chain. multimedia is jest a fraction of a salary and 2/3 of it goes for the kid. and it's not for the toys, you don't have to spoil him... its the space in the flat, medical bills...
Your mention of StarWars brought back memories. I attended the first screening of the movie in my area along with maybe 10 others in the theater. Didn't know anything about it nor expected much. Then that first scene came up and I knew at that moment movies would never be the same. What a fun, wild ride. I had a similar experience with "Raiders of the Lost Ark".
Oooo...love your paintings! I'll be praying for your daughter's great success. Blessings.
Hello again Steve! Love the new studio! Your memorabilia shelves must have been very satisfying to put together.
Its nice to meet a fellow geek pop culture fan. I also am a huge fan of all those things....Tron, LOTR, SW, Dune. Do you like any of the Miyazaki films? They are great inspiration for paintings. You also look like you enjoy reading......if you are looking for a book recommendation, I am currently reading the Senlin Ascends books by Josiah Bancroft. Kinda of steampunky with fantasy elements. Im not really a steampunk person but I am loving this story. The writing style is exceptional.
As always, thanks for your videos, they've been a tremendous help with my painting skills.
Cheers, Justin
Yes, Miyazaki is pretty cool.
How are you recording this video Steve. Are you wearing a lanyard or something?
Yes for part of it. iPhone for other parts.
You mentioned ironing the painting to get it more flat, do you have a link to demonstrating that? Congrats to your daughter!
Not yet! But check out this video from Emily Olson th-cam.com/video/D4lTyCCBNmU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=4GFNOvRoJVacDhZM
How long will the sizing on the Arches watercolor paper blocks?
I love your studio. Where did you get that chair? I've been looking for a studio chair and that one looks perfect.
