mariahs whispery tone is very natural to her cause of her nodules so imitating it could be very hard

Breathy/airy/whispery voice are all the same thing: Cord closure.
Mariah just happens to have rasp because of nodules and singing on a very low pitches and also she has less tone, almost like a whisper.
