    Another fun and informative review. I LOVE the NR1200 and all of its features. This unit could serve as an amazing 2.1 channel PRE-AMP. The preout section is super clean and with an external amplifier, you can drive whatever you want. However, if you have efficient speakers that don't dip below 6 ohms, the internal amp is warm and smooth, yet detailed. The tone controls on the front is really nice and the built in streamer/tuner is really it's main feature. A decent streaming unit can cost easily more than you paid for this NR-1200. I would keep this unit and when you need more power, add a 2 channel external amp. I would have loved to hear you go into more depth regarding comparing this unti which is feature rich to the PM6007 which is more geared for sound quality as it has a toroidal transformer, larger power capacitors, and much thicker aluminum heat sink. But no streamer/radio tuner, no HDMI switching, no display on the front, etc. Tough desicion to make which I believe comes down to what speakers you plan to use and what features do you need to have. For the price, going with the NR1200 and its feature set with the upgrade path to add an external amp and use it as an excellent pre-amp seems like a good way to go. If you are not a streamer and will not be incorporating a TV, the PM6007 is the way to go. I'd love to hear your thoughts or see you do a comparsion of these two budget Marantz units as it seems you enjoyed them both very much and Marantz has a big following. Thank you again!!!!

      How well does it run Tidal? I have an Onkyo unit that has a very clunky Tidal interface. You can't use the Tidal app on your phone, without chrome casting and then the files become compressed (I believe). I do have an Onkyo app that runs Tidal, and I can run the stereo & Tidal via the Onkyo app...but like I said, that portion is very clunky. Terrible for searching songs.

      Just add a WiiM mini steamer which is a super steamer and likely will sound better than what’s built in to your onkyo. Then you can keep your onkyo. Less than one hundred bucks and you are off!!!! Let me know if you have any questions. But your answer is you need a better streamer with better streaming software.

    The NR1200 seems like a great versatile network player., that fits in perfectly with the rest of your equipment I liked the back of the amp with so many different options There is no doubt that Marantz makes quality equipment. I noticed that the more modern network players with advanced graphics cost much more. I am thinking of getting a Network Player/amp combo to streamline my equipment. Within the space of two years, I have acquired bookshelf speaker for my PC, pared two Echo's and have a Sonos One, all in the same room. Audio acquisition madness really. Maybe consider getting a stand alone Hifi Rack and separate LP/Bluray/CD storage in the future, to give you more space.

    In our saloon we have the NR1603 i think it is 8 or 9 years old, it is connected to Morel living room and 10 inch subwoofer. It is only rated 50w on 8 ohm, I feel it is more then enough for our Saloon which is open space with the kitchen , the sound is on the warm side.

    • @UTILITARIANTVUK
      @UTILITARIANTVUK  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Your notebook would need either a HDMI out or Optical out. Another option is to use the headphone jack 3.5mm to RCA and plug the RCA into the back of the amp. The best option would be to get an external DAC with a HDMI or Optical/Coaxial out.

      @Mirsset ปีที่แล้ว

      @@UTILITARIANTVUK Thank you for your answer. Yes my notebook has HDMI. What is the reason behind external DAC in this case? Better audio quality signal? Sorry, I'm very new to this.

    Hi ! Interesting video ! I have the NR1200 I had the occasion to buy second hand for a good price along with the CD player 6007. The idea was to replace my Melody X CR612 cause even though it worked fine it was possibly a bit weak for the Focal Aria 926 that replaced the 906. To be honest, the NR1200 disappointed me in terms of Hi-Fi listening. It felt soooo weak 😕 Even though it was 15W more powerful than the Melody X, it even sounded weaker 🙁 (but a bit more defined). This said, it worked well for TV & HC 2.0.
    So I purchased a PM6007N new and... Waaaaw! That amp is a masterpiece for the price tag!! But did I get rid of the NR1200? Well, it's back in its box. BUT! I have to say the PM6007 is not as good and punchy as the NR1200 for TV/HC. Isn't it weird? Seems like what makes a good HC amp is very different from what makes a good Hi-Fi amp (more than just having more than 2 channels). I was really surprised!
    Also ! The PM6007N has an integrated streamer but has no receiver so no DAB/FM 😑 Ok it has Tune-In but it p*sses me off having to use a third party app to listen to a radio. In that regard, the Melody X has internet radio feature too but not through Tune-In. Just a very simple and usable large list of available internet radios. So why Tune-In and only ?? Besides not all radios are available including some national public radios in my Country (Belgium). You can add them but you have to use some workarounds 😑.
    Soooo! I think I'll possibly unbox again the NR1200 and connect it to the PM6007N through the preamp out for TV/HC and radio 😁 Geee that's going to make 3 remote controls that look so similar 😅

    I absolutely love my NR1200. Got a hell of a deal on it, too. $435 USD bnib, shipped to my front door. I don't know where/how I could get a better stereo receiver for that kind of $$$...and now that I own the NR1200 I don't care. I'm perfectly content w/ my gear currently.
    The phono stage isn't amazing w/ the NR1200, but other than that I have no complaints. ...and I own a Pro-Ject Tube Box s2 anyways, so this just gives me an excuse to keep using it. In fact, it gave me an excuse to purchase a linear power supply for my phono preamp...and seeing as I bought one for the phono preamp I figured I might as well get a linear power supply for my Project DAC Box s2 as well.
    Would recommend all of it. Just sayin'...

    For the money that was a no brainer for sure excellent value, you know what when you consider all the extra circuits needed for this, blue tooth, hmdi, the tuner etc... all of which is not gonna make it sound better (might not make it worse either but you get my drift), when you compare it to that rather fab stripped down Yamaha it did really well, way better than I thought it would.. Funnily enough I have gone the opposite route to you, I had a one box do all solution, however as standards change and things move forward if it's separate you can just change a bit of it rather than all of it and a good amp would out live me. However at £350.00 quid you could afford to dump in say 7 years and buy the next new one. Have to say though it is very convenient and it looks great.

    'Always enjoy your videos - nice job! If your Marantz volume knob is like the one on my older NR1603, you might find that spinning it quicker will result in larger jumps in volume output. To me, the Marantz sounds a bit warmer and smoother (my personal preference) than the Yamaha, but I may prefer the Yamaha if my room was either well or over-damped. Cheers!

    Great video. Those two amps sounded very similar. Could hear slightly more resonance on the 1200 but only on one track. I have a nr1200. Boxed it up to put on ebay. Didnt seem to have detail, dynamics. They're on richer for £699. Bids only went up to £180 so i cancelled. Think i may have been rash. Going to unbox it and try again with my fyne audio 501's. If it sounds as good as the 6007 ill keep it. 👍 Thanks for the video.

      They should work well with that amp, they have a sensitivity of 90dB so easier to drive. The NR1200 is a little more picky with speakers than the 6007 but if you get the right match, it sounds good!
