    I have watched Sean Dillman's videos for ScanSnap scanners and found them very informative. He is a true asset for the Fujistu products. I enjoy his relaxed presence.

    I'm an old UNIX guy, so the DOS commands were fun... but an easier way to copy the filenames to Windows is:
    Step 1 Open Windows File Explorer.
    Step 2 Navigate to the folder that contains the files.
    Step 3 Select the Files.
    Step 4 Press Shift and Right Click.
    Step 5 Click on Copy as Path.
    Step 6 Open MS Word and Paste.
    Step 7 Find and Replace.

      I'm glad to hear it Peter. In a few months I'll be releasing a second version of this video that shows an even easier way to do it. Stay tuned. 😊

    Excellent video answered several questions: YYYY-MM-DD format, bringing in an Excel spreadsheet, how to use the profile function efficiently.

    The older Scan Snap Receipts software for Mac ( pre Scansnap Home)( came with my ix500) used to take care of all of this… too bad they discontinued it…never understood why … it was great!

    • @SeanDillman
      @SeanDillman  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes indeed. It's difficult to understand sometimes why companies discontinue good solutions. What solution do you use now? 😊

    • @SeanDillman
      @SeanDillman  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@andytheuke I know that the higher-end business-class series of scanners have more advanced software for handling these kinds of jobs, including using different kinds of capture technology to pull information from documents, but these solutions are relatively expensive. For example, here is a video I made about the fi-8170: th-cam.com/video/ipdo6Gt62z0/w-d-xo.html.

    Seems if you use the Receipts profile to scan the receipts they are not searchable unless you run a character analysis using your PDF software. This is a definate bug as the other profiles create searchable documents. Very strange behavior as it somehow picks up the amount of the receipt and puts it in the name of the file. So if you scan 50 receipts you have to open each one and convert them to a searchable format.

    • @michellemadisonRE
      @michellemadisonRE 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I have found this to be super frustrating also...why not have a receipt fully searchable?? Hopefully they update the software to allow that in the future.

      Hi Eddie. That's fair. A friend and colleague of mine who works with ScanSnap sent me an email showing an even better way to tally receipts using ScanSnap Home. I'll be making and posting a video showing his technique soon. =)

    This process seems extremely convoluted (albeit well explained). Is this a required process for managing receipts versus simply scanning and exporting all receipt data to a CSV?

    • @SeanDillman
      @SeanDillman  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Hi Russel. You're right, and I appreciate you saying that you think it is well-explained. You are right. There is a .CSV way to do this. A colleague of mine at the company told me about this and I haven't had time to make a video to demonstrate the better way to do it. It is on my list of future videos to make. 😊

    Great videos! I have a question can the Fujitsu ScanSnap iX1600 scan right to Excell? Or do I need to go through all those steps to get a pdf then to Excell?

    • @SeanDillman
      @SeanDillman  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hi Janet. The ScanSnap can scan directly to a .CSV file which can indeed be opened directly in Excel. A colleague of mine recently gave me instructions on how to do this and I will be making a video on how to do this soon. 😊

    I never even knew anything like this even existed. Does this know automatically that this is a receipt or do you have to use software before scanning to say I’m about to scan a receipt.

    • @SeanDillman
      @SeanDillman  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Danny. Yeah. It's pretty great. The scanner can automatically detect that it is a receipt depending on the scan profile. The software is called ScanSnap Home. I show it in a few of my videos, reviews of the iX1300 and iX1600 as well as Q&A videos. :-)

    Hey, nice video! I have one question - have you ever tried scanning some receipts from abroad in this software? I'm from Europe and I wonder if the sum/date will be picked up by the software correctly? Thanks!

    • @SeanDillman
      @SeanDillman  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Marek. Thanks very much for the compliment. That’s a great question. Yes indeed. I have tried receipts from Europe, and it works. I was in Italy about 3 months ago. Within the ScanSnap Home settings, if you click the round button for “Edit Profiles” and then click “Receipts” and then click “Detailed Settings” and then click “Title”, there is a dropdown box called “Location/Region of Receipt (Language)”. The included languages are Australia (English), Canada (English), Canada (French), France (French), Germany (German), Italy (Italian), Brazil (Portuguese), Russia (Russian), Singapore (English), Spain (Spanish), UK (English), and US (English). Ideally, by selecting the correct location/region/language, the scanner will pick up the information correctly. I tested it with my Italian receipts, and it worked just fine. Lots of pasta and coffee!😅🍕☕🧾👍

    I'm looking for a way to scan receipts that itemize my purchases and then be able to detail what I spent for what individual items (like a series of grocery receipts and pick out the number of times and amounts I bought a particular item like bananas or oatmeal, etc.). Would I be able to do that with one of your mentioned scanners or software? I watched the videos on long receipts and Tally receipts and neither one seemed to do what I'd like to be able to do. Thanks!

      @emb2454 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm looking for this, too. Honestly, at this point, I feel like I've spent more time researching scanners and software than it'd take me to do by hand! The NeatDesk scanner seems like it's the most advanced, but it's insanely expensive - just to use their scanner, you have to buy the software and it costs $200. per year - that's every year forever, or your scanner won't work. :(

    here is my question can it organize receipts by date

    • @SeanDillman
      @SeanDillman  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Hi James. You bet. It can auto-detect the date on receipts and you can select where you want it to appear in the file name. It will be organized by date in the ScanSnap Home software, and if you put the date as the first entry in the file name, it will be sorted by date in your operating system navigator too. 😊👍
