- This car came with 4 quarter valances (makes sense, right, they are quarters after all LOL). The two original ones were in a very bad shape, but the extra ones were good or in need of just a little repair. So let's fix them
Well pleased that you had some good luck with those front valences. Having said that the way you work you make your own good luck.
Great work ...
Victor Frankenstein would fully approve! Thank you for the detailed description of the next jobs!
LOL, When I edited the video it was too long already so I just thought "who cares Elin, they will see it anyway"
Congrats Al ,,,,,I'll just call you Al,,,,simple and to the point ,,,
Always enjoy your work Al ,,,,
Great Job!!,, very daring double skin repair, without splitting the two pieces, I would have been messing with that kind of repair for hours👍
It took hours for me too :) Don't get tricked by the magic of video editing LOL
Outside skin may be thinner metal. Inside has more bends to support structure. If not being thicker. You should move your welder more doing only one spot at a time to reduce heat in one area. Therefore less warping on exterior panels. If you weld in a straight line in one spot continuously you will for sure get more warping. Thicker metal usually doesn't matter and you can run a straight bead. But, with thinner metal always skip around to reduce the risk of warping or distortion. You'll figure it out.☺
Its why Elin uses an air gun to cool it down ... What most panel welders do here in the UK as well
1chish It's better to skip around. I only suggest it because he's still seeing warpage. Too much heat in one area.
Thanks! Yeah, I do that, I do about 1/2" weld, then I cool it down with the blowgun and then I skip 3 - 4 inches and do the same. Sometimes it works well, sometimes it warps. I think it has something to do with the initial gap I leave. Maybe the gap is too small in the areas where it warps. I will have to look closer at my videos, go back and check what the gap was. Anyway, I am learning!
Elin - This guy in Scotland does similarly great welding and panel work (in very limited circumstances) and his work has similarities with your good self in that he spots, moves on and comes back and he also uses an air gun to cool things down. He is currently rebuilding a '77 Mini and has access to new panels but still has to make it all fit into a very rusty body! Worth a look round to see how he is doing a very good job (especially around the A Posts and floors)

Hiya Brother Elin (A-lan). Awesome! I love all things foreign. However, you are lovable for more than that.
Wow, you really don't sleep, middle of the night here. I'm 10th. Still great work.
Congratulations El-een on getting to 6000 subscribers
Thank you! :)
Elin, I know this is a bit late, but how did you rust convert the valance that was already good? The two skins come together at the one end and it is hard to get anything down in there. Would just pouring or spraying it in and swirling around work?
Yeah, just pouring some rust converter inside works OK, but I usually like to clean the big amount of rust mechanically before I rust convert it. That was not possible on the quarter valances so I am panning after paint to wax spray all enclosed areas like the valances, sills etc.
Old wives tale states the brown Triumphs don’t rust as badly. The brown ones are from a Spitfire. 6000 subscribers! That’s a nice achievement.
Yeah, it is like the black socks, they don't get dirty as fast as the white ones LOL. Thanks! Yeah 6000 is a big number and a big responsibility as well. I have to make sure all these people are well entertained :) Thanks for your big participation in this whole thing!
Can you use a spray bottle or a spray pump bottle for your rust proof in
British Motor Heritage sells these new stamped valences, which are a thicker gauge than the originals. Money well spend during my project...
Like I said before. I like doing the work and if I can salvage a part I do it no matter how long it would take. It is like solving a crosswords puzzle and where would the pleasure be if I just copy the right answers...
Could you put the rust converter in a spray bottle?
Yeah, I could do that as well. Good idea!
thank you again for another great show when do get rusty beauties marchendise
Thanks, James! No merchandise. I need my time to focus on what I have so far. Official work, hobby, youtube channel, website and FB page... Oh, and family sometimes :) I can't even keep my website up to date so when I have control over all that I might think for other things.
Great work Elin. Yes... I'm pronouncing your name correctly. ;-)
Yeah, I heard that, thanks LOL
Oh good... because I was yelling really loud as I typed it.
