"Ol' Red" was actually a Hoyt Axton song in the 70s. Before the song in this video starts, Blake tells the story of being on a job site and Hoyt invited Blake into Hoyt's tour bus and played it for him.
The gathering is the Country's Family Reunion show. Created to bring country artists from past decades and periods of country music come together. They share tales of the past, about interactions with each other, hardships of living in the road and the rich traditions of the genre that is country. They share their stories both verbally, and through their music. You can see the love and admiration they have for each other. Truly a family reunion. Love your reactions and how quick you figured it out...
I think this was played at country homecoming. The artists used to gather together sing and tell stories. This is why I LOVE LOVE country music. They build each other up no matter what label they were on.
“…waited till the time got right.” I think he meant when the female’s ‘time got right,’ like she came into season maybe…?? 😂 This was a huge hit for Blake, therefore his bar in Nashville is named Ole Red’s. ♥️
Wow you are brilliant, you are the first reactor to this song that nailed every detail predicting the ending half way through the song, even the part with them making babies 😂😂
I was introduced to Blake Shelton with his song Some Beach. You’ll love it too. I think I remember there is a live version where he adds a verse to it I think.
So I’m from southeast Oklahoma and the year I was between work and going back to grad school, word got round on social media that Blake was rehearsing at his restaurant Ole Red in Tishomingo, Oklahoma. Keep in mind, this is a small town of about 3000 people and it was like Elvis came to town. Needless to say, we got a free rehearsal and Gwen came out to rehearse Dont Speak. Never in a million years does something like that happen in small town America. Gwen Stefani is stunning at 50+.
The people that are around Blake are not only country singers, they are country legends from the 50s, 60s, and so. You can find a lot of the videos the Country's Family Reunion shows on here, I think you would enjoy it, great songs and stories.
So neat watching your reaction to this since I’ve heard it a million times. I love how you appreciate good story telling and give other genres a chance. I enjoy watching you.
You really REALLY need to see the video with this. It is epic. all those people with Blake are (old time original kind) country music entertainers as well.
If you want to hear what his voice really has to offer then you’ve got to check out his cover of “goodbye time”. The original by Conway Twitty is very nice too. Also, great job on pinning the song early on.
Yep this is a gathering of old and some new country/western singers. Back in the day, country pickers used to get together to teach or just sing or play together out in the back barn/porch/shade while having fun. We used to gather up learn about one another, chat, pick dem guitars, and share food (females gather to exchange or try each other's recipes too!) Everyone was always welcome. Too bad we don't have that anymore. We used to do this once a month on a Saturday late afternoon. The invite sayings was, "we gonna do some string pickin', you in?" 🥰
Everybody in that room that Blake was singing in is famous. It was the country music family reunion. They had one every week for a long time, and all of the old timers would go in there and get together in town old stories sing their songs it was a TV show that was on, and it was great to watch.
They all looked familiar but the one I know for sure was vince gill. He was sitting in front of him in the black leather. He was very very country. He did a song with trace atkins called hillbilly bone. 😂
Songs 'Old Red' and 'Austin' (you reacting to 'Austin' on a different video is what brought me to your channel) were on Blake Shelton's debut album - Blake Shelton. I believe the woman you referred to in the video is Trisha Yearwood. There a numerous big-time country stars in that audience. I very much enjoy your reactions and your channel. You are a bright ray of sunshine to my day.
He has been on tour for a while now and one of the opening acts is a young woman from Knoxville Tennessee, her name is Emily Ann Roberts. Watch her videos for “ The Building “, “The Devil Wears Denim “, “Infinity “. “Loves Me For My Heart “, just to name a few. Do it now !!!
This is one of Blake's biggest hits - but the song is all about the VIDEO that goes along with it. You don't understand the meaning of the song without watching the iconic video that tells the story from start to finish. But it's still a great song nonetheless.
@@MidwestFarmToys I meant that it would have been so much BETTER to have the AWESOME video - with the hilarious visuals to go along with the song. It's like peanut butter and jelly. They just go together.
he was playing on country road a show full of country legends, they talk remines about old times, and a few guests sing, its actually a pretty cool show
Country roads show these old clips where alot of all time great country artists get to together to tell stories and newer artists would join to sing. It was hard to tell but maybe Vince Gill was there, that was 2001 time frame
George Jones actually recorded this song originally. I'm a fan of this song and a huge fan of George Jones, but I didn't discover that until a few years back.
Another great story teller is Red Sovine, but you need to have a full box of tissues handy as most of his songs are real tear jerkers. "Teddy Bear", "Giddyup, Go", "Little Joe", "Daddy's Girl", "Roses for Mama".
Yes, Blake is great and can't maintain his greatness if he just stays with the traditional catalog. This new country sound (pop) is only a thin layer that will come and go, and adapt to what the labels think the masses want to hear, but ultimately ALL country fans will always choose true country story telling songs.
I met one of the songwriters of this song. At about 11pm one night he got a call from another writer with the first line " Caught my wife with another man and it cost me 99. Then he told the friend I got him in prison you get him out,
Chain gang song? I could see that, though I would say it sounds "swampy". Knew you would love this! George Jones did this song first (at least as far as I know), but it wasn't a huge hit for him. You can hear a few of those George Jones-y low notes in Blake's version here. I see Larry Gatlin of the Gatlin Brothers in that audience - "All the Gold in California" is a great song.
Girl you definitely have to watch the music video. SUPERB
I was going to say the same thing
Yes Definitely!
One of my favorites!
You should watch the video of this song 😊
Britt...if you haven't heard him sing God's Country. You especially will appreciate it. Fantastic work.
Agreed. It was written by Hardy.
"Ol' Red" was actually a Hoyt Axton song in the 70s. Before the song in this video starts, Blake tells the story of being on a job site and Hoyt invited Blake into Hoyt's tour bus and played it for him.
had no idea. thank you!
Hoyt Axton knows his way around a story.
" IT'S A "CHAIN GANG"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THEY ARE ALL COUNTRY STARS!!!!!!!!
Story time 😊 girl the look on your face when you figured the story out was PRICELESS 😂
😂😂😂

So refreshing when a reactor actually gets it!!! You are awesome.
These are all singers. They just like to come together sometimes with cameras and sometimes no cameras
Another great story song by Blake is the baby
Such a good song, completely relatable to my own life.
That one chokes me up every single time!
Wow you are brilliant, you are the first reactor to this song that nailed every detail predicting the ending half way through the song, even the part with them making babies 😂😂
I love this song. Fun story song!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Singer song writer Hoylt Axton wrote this song and gave it to Blake.
It was written by Bo Bohon, Don Goodman, and Mark Sherrill for George Jones.
Blake has Resturant /bar in several cities called OLE RED Tishamingo, Okla where he lives and Nashville ..Las Vegas I can't remember the other ones.
Has one in Gatlinburg, TN as well.
Blake sang this song on Country’s Family Reunion. All the other people on the show are older famous country singers.
I was introduced to Blake Shelton with his song Some Beach. You’ll love it too. I think I remember there is a live version where he adds a verse to it I think.
Blake has a bar Ol'Red in Nashville

Yessss..watch the video.
One of my favorite country songs
Finally, def one of my favs from him

A winner for sure. On a sad note Eric Carmen passed away. 1949 to 2024. What a loss. Love Blake a whole lot!❤❤👍👍💯🤘🤘
He waited for the heat to come over that blue tick and Ole Red was just nothing but a hound dog and he just did what old hound dogs do.
That’s a bunch of legends around him.
Love that your channel keeps searching for music unheard or missed. The vibe is always amazing.
It’s called a chain gang!!!! And yesssss, I get that same feeling
Blake Shelton has a house around Tishomingo Oklahoma. But he has a bar in Tishomingo called old reds he plays at some times.
His mega hit song gods country will forever solidify him in country's greatest.
Good for you! The quickest I seen anyone figure it out
LOL That hair style's called a "Mullet". Wish you had done the official music video, but this one's good.
Love this song!!
You really REALLY need to see the video with this. It is epic. all those people with Blake are (old time original kind) country music entertainers as well.
The whole group are famous country singers.
You NAILED it girl🙌
Thank you!
You figured that out quick. Love it!!!!
You bet!
Without hesitation "Valdosta"! Awesome. My wife and I love Valdosta, GA.
Right on!
You nailed it way before every other reactor...kudos
This performance by Blake sounds like very much like a Hank Williams tune
At the time he had just came out to the world. He had that long mullet for the first few years. Check out his version of the song “ HOME “.
Will do!
That was fantastic!!! What plan!! 😂
" Chain Gang " is what you were thinking of.
That Valdosta comment almost took me out 😂 Sending love from SE Ga 💜

The song war written by Hoyt Axton and he was a charater
You got Tennessee blood lady!!! Lol!!! You had this quick....
Not Blakes original song, although he made it the most famous. Kenny Rogers and George Jones both had versions first!
Kenny Rogers did this song?! Brb - gotta go look that up!
@@matthewdooley7855 hope you liked Kenny’s version!
On the Chain Gang, cutting brush alongside the road, filling potholes and such.
That would be a Chain Gang :) Ol' Red is the song that introduced me to Blake.
Old Blake...Try The More I Drink and Some Beach videos. You would love both of them.
I'll check it out!
You HAVE to watch the video

Blake Shelton is covering this song. It was originally sang by George Jones and Kenny Roger's also covered it.
Austin was Blake's first single.
1. Super glad you're back.
2. I told you you would love Blake Shelton's Ol' Red. This is Shelton's break out song.
Songs 'Old Red' and 'Austin' (you reacting to 'Austin' on a different video is what brought me to your channel) were on Blake Shelton's debut album - Blake Shelton. That is one of his first songs he recorded. It was written by Hoyt Axton
Hoyt Axton is a story all of his own, and a great storyteller.
Close, He did hear this song from Hoyt on Hoyts bus, but Mr.Axton didn’t write it. He just played it for Blake
I’ll look into them!
:) That's a good one! I think his first hit was "Some Beech, Somewhere". : ) I like him too!

YES!
What do you mean? She got the meaning of it plenty fine. It isn't rocket science lol.
@@MidwestFarmToys I meant that it would have been so much BETTER to have the AWESOME video - with the hilarious visuals to go along with the song. It's like peanut butter and jelly. They just go together.
P.S. this is from the country family reunion shows.
he was playing on country road a show full of country legends, they talk remines about old times, and a few guests sing, its actually a pretty cool show
When Red goes in heat she will look for Blu
I love this song by Blake. I am not a huge fan of his but this song I love. Great story.
Loved your reaction
Country roads show these old clips where alot of all time great country artists get to together to tell stories and newer artists would join to sing. It was hard to tell but maybe Vince Gill was there, that was 2001 time frame
I remember the long hair shelton days
Yeah three video gives you the visual. Lol I love this song it's cute
This song is so much fun!
Austin. Is a great young Blake tune
Good call!!
Need to react to ‘Raymond’ by Brett Eldridge!!! And the locket by Lauren Alaina!!!
You need yo react to his video...The Baby!! AMAZING!!❤
Girl them glasses give you the hot naughty librarian vibe!😜😜😜😜😜
Everyone on that stage was famous. I think that was Blake’s first hit.
"Austin" was his first hit.
Britt, his song "The Baby" will really show you a young Blake. And chain gang is what you were thinking...
I’ll check it out!
Go back and watch the video for old red that Blake put out it puts a lot of context to the song
your next reaction should be Brad Paisley he didn't have to be
Needed to watch the video on this one
I believe the lady in question was Vince gills first wife Janice Oliver.
If you like story songs, you need to react to some Jerry Reed - "Amos Moses", "Gator", "She Got the Goldmine (I Got the Shaft)", "Guitar Man".
I agree with most comments. Watching the video is much better
George Jones actually recorded this song originally.

I know you've reacted to some Marty Robbins song, but "Big Irion" is one of his best.

Yep
I met one of the songwriters of this song. At about 11pm one night he got a call from another writer with the first line " Caught my wife with another man and it cost me 99. Then he told the friend I got him in prison you get him out,
"chain gang"😊
Kenny Rogers did a version of this song before Blake. So did George Jones.
It’s called a chain gang Pretty sure his first song was entitled Austin. It’s a girl of that name.
***DO REBA "The Night That The Lights Went Out In Georgia"!!!
She reacted to that like a year ago now

Fun fact, this song was inspired by Shawshank redemption
And written by George Jones in the 80’s
@@user-ko1nw3em8k I had no idea about that. I thought blake wrote it. I know he writes a lot of his songs
