I think your comment perfectly summarizes my opinion on Mr. Marsalis. I just spent an afternoon listening to his Blues catalog here on TH-cam and you can't not smile in the middle of each tune. This man has the juice.
I think Wynton Marsalis is amazing, not because he has won so many awards, but the way he connects with everyone, and respects everyone and gives them their time to shine.
Herlin Riley sets the rythum for this jazz tune. His drum solo is unique. All the other musicians feed off this beat. The audience really gets into this arrangement.
I remember when this German guy made a comment about black music being primitive. He said it to try to insult me. I never replied because I wanted him to go on making that comment around other people, never interrupt a fool when he cutting his own throat. Black people created America's classical music, which is called Jazz.
So, tell me who's a better living jazz drummer than Herlin Riley? I think that Steve Gadd is talented in many genres, including jazz. Check out TH-cam's "Concierto de Aranjuez'.
WHO dat white boy ticking those IVORIES ?? (Wait... I know, it's the inimitable Dan Nimmer who is a POWERHOUSE when it comes to making those 88's sing !!) BTW: Dan is a "regular" with the JLCO -- something you don't want to miss.
Jazz will never die while we have musicians like this, swinging like mad. Great!!!
Wynton is Marsalis and...
Marsalis is Wynton....master!!!!
Marsalis´ style may not be for everyone, but he brings back one special aspect to jazz which it had once - happiness.
I totally agree!

Quando la batteria non è solo uno strumento d' accompagnamento ma un vero e proprio strumento musicale autonomo ! Grande performance.
That drum intro honoring the roots of all American music. That beat. ❤

Herlin Riley is the real deal - swinging straight out of that New Orleans tradition.
It's so nice to have a famous trumpet player that loves this style of jazz. I hope it never dies out.

I wish that I could hear the band members' words of encouragement during Riley's great solo. They're all digging it.

Dan is under-appreciated and under-rated. A shame.
What are they singing in the intro?
Well...I miss Chick Webb.

Jazz the music of American slaves. Who said we come from nothing and could never be anything??
Right on.
