    Struggled for months, lofting the ball to my target, an arrow. Hit it consistently with little down-lane action. Old guy watching suggested I aim closer at a dot or between. BOOM! 5 consecutive strikes. Studying this game I've learned the sooner the ball is on the lane the more reaction it will have. Good tip, thanks.

      I struggle with the same thing Lofting the ball as well so you aim where? Dots instead of arrows this helped you stopped Lofting??

      Yes, I too made that change, but I also use the arrows to pick up spares! Made a great improvement🎳

    The great Earl Anthony agrees.
    He said in his lessons, if you want the ball to hook later, look past the arrows, and if you want it to hook earlier, look before the arrows.
    This is all he said it takes to get the ball to start up later or earlier.

    • @ericpadilla2454
      @ericpadilla2454 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not true at all,at least for todays game. Aiming at the arrows or dots only changes how u loft or roll the ball. Aiming at the dots causes an early release while aiming at the arrows causes a later release. Sanding/resurfacing your ball determines the early or late hook or throwing it more into the oil or dry part of the lane. Earl,while great, did not bowl with the new and modern technology of todays balls so taking his advice would be a bit wrong so to say.

    • @nordattack
      @nordattack 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ericpadilla2454 I practice this "aiming early" and "aiming late" technique today with modern balls on both Sport and House shots and it still works.
      So have to disagree with you.

      @@nordattack so do i as i used to loft the ball so i went to dots instead. My hook is still the same depending on the lane and exit point.

    This was incredibly helpful. I never used the arrows or dots. Just the pins and breakpoints. Was actually doing just fine, but I thought I might try to learn something new then pull my own style back in.
    When I started using the arrows my scores actually went down, but they were consistent. Now I will put my spin on this tip and bring my bag of tricks back in to the new targeting scheme.
    Now to find an alley that actually uses oil.........

    I tried using the dots a few times after years of targeting at the arrows but it felt way to close and almost like pulling me down as I'm 6'4", but recently I started understanding playing the lanes front to back and started bringing my arrow target lower n lower till I'm bout halfway between dots n arrows and boy ur right my revs are the best I have to give almost every shot now. As a speed dom bowler its nice to see my ball pick up alil earlier as well now.

    Fresh THS and sport shots I prefer the dots. But a broken-down house shot I use the arrows so I don't over hook by catching the dry too soon. Only a year into bowling and I may be wrong but that's what works for me.

    Nice video topic. It seems that looking closer tells the brain to roll the ball quicker/earlier, and looking far away it probably we stay more in the ball to project to that far spot. Also something to consider is, that some people aim better looking very close, and others looking further away.

    Since forever, I have always targeted the arrows- maybe a foot before at the closest. In practice I mentally drew a line from my target at the arrows to he dots in line with where I was standing. I was laying it down cleaner, I was way more accurate and the ball hit harder. It's like I re-discovered the game.

    Started shooting dots instead of arrows and it increased my revs and speed somehow. Also way more consistency. The only downfall is when i tug it left it goes a little further left.

    I don't even see my ball till it gets halfway down the lane, unless I'm on some wicked heavy flat pattern, since I look at my breakpoint most of the time.
    I do, however agree with the notion of the ball hooking sooner the closer you look on the lane. I have no idea why it works, but it works.
    One more thing about getting the ball to the lane quicker. This only helps on fresh patterns, or pro patterns. On normal house shots, the heads burn so quickly, you are better off getting the ball to the lane a little later.

    The reason your rev rate goes up if you place the ball earlier is because of basic physics which is momentum. When you place it earlier the ball has more lane to pass and the more distance means the ball can pick up momentum (turns) because of it's weight. So the more the lane the more speed the more revs.

    I've always used the dots instead of arrows. But I don't come from the left and roll toward the gutter because I tend to roll into the gutter. I instead run directly over the dot and let the ball slide then it begins it rolls. I do get alot of 10 pin leaves but it cures my gutter balls a ton. If I was better with revs I'd shoot more for arrows but I can't seem to grasp the concept.

  • @wecontrolthevideo
    @wecontrolthevideo 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think you should use a spot at the arrows or a little farther down the lane. The closer your target is to you and the front of the lane, the bigger the error will be when you miss your spot. If you pull your ball and miss your target spot by a board, it will go much higher at the pins if you are a board high at the dots or closer as opposed to the arrows or further.
    Example if you could throw a perfectly straight ball from the center board at the foul line, and rolled it straight down the middle, it would stay on that board all the way to the head pin. If you hit one board to the right 10 feet down it would be 6 boards to the right at the pins. If you hit one board to the right 30 feet down the lane, it would only be 2 board to the right at the pins.
    The arrows is a compromise distance between aiming distance and target accuracy.

    Last Wednesday (1/29/20) I decided to try targeting at the dots and actually saw a much betyer ball reaction and a higher rev rate than even the previous week in league. I tried it again yesterday (2/2/20) at a different house and shot 290 the first game out! It was much easier to hit my target consistently!!! Thanks for the always great content!!!

    With your thoughts on the angles you described, would that be the same using the 3 point targeting system?
    Example:
    Eyes center of six pin, imaginary line back and through to ten board. Or. Right edge of six pin imaginary line back and through to ten board.
    That would change angels, too!!

    Jr great video as always. Would you say the reason rev rate goes up because looking at a target closer to you elbow can be closer to the body at release. Where as when targeting further down the lane we have subconscious to reach for our mark causing elbow to pull away from the body????

    Hey can you make a tutorial for a new bowler getting his first hook ball, how to keep the hand behind the ball, how to get a stronger wrist?

    • @Ironfangzu
      @Ironfangzu 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Two things you might want to keep in mind is: 1) on the downswing of your ball, at the point when your arm is straight down, your ring and middle fingers should be on the inside of your ball, that is, pointing at 8 o'clock rather than 6 o'clock or worse, 4 o'clock. When your fingers are on the inside (this is called the strong finger position), you will produce a stronger rev rate and a bigger hook because you fingers are traveling a greater distance as your thumb comes out and you lift as you release. 2) Cup your hand so that your hand is lower than the equator of the ball. Again, if your hand is behind and "under" the ball, you can put more rotation on it. If your hand is on the outside or above the ball, you can't get much rotation or hook. Hope this helps, or makes sense. You can practice just by holding the ball straight down and moving your hand around. You'll get the hang of it. Good luck!

    Jr just one question well 2 questions first do you ever take your eff off your target just for a split second? A friend told me he has to work hard not to lose concentration doing this your thoughts? 2nd question is is a 5x4x2 drilling for a left handed bowler a strong layout of average what do you think? I turn the ball get good rotation. Thank you

  • @paulszczepanik3213

    so how would the rule of 7 affect the bowlers who target at the foul line, For example, if you are targeting the 15 board and 5 downlane dropping it 15 on the foul line would make it skid more right once it reaches the arrows. I noticed in most videos its about 5 boards or so making it in which you had to most likely target 20 on the foul line dots allowing the ball to travel to 15 once at the arrows. But do I also have to move 5 more boards to the left with my feet also including the rule of 7 of course?

    If you’re more of a straight/stroker bowler, where would you look?
    And is there any scenario where you look at the pins? (As in other sports- “keep your eye on the ball”)

    • @richardsymms404
      @richardsymms404 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well I am certainly a straighter player and my average is just 178 but I do usually use arrows for my target. However sometimes I want the ball to go longer so I look further down lane and sometimes I want it to break sooner and I look closer - like at the dots. Looking directly at the pin you want to hit can work for some when you are bowling for a spare but due to the hook I use for my first roll, (albeit not a big hook) I would look at the break point if not the arrows.
