My most favorite anime that tackles escapism is Madoka Magica the movie 3: Rebellion, it not only shows the depths of one's desire, obsession, but also presents a reality that can never be, and a climax that shows the negative effects of someone who cannot get over their past failure that resulted in their lonelyness, which makes the payoff so much satisfying for viewers that pays close attention to the story and every detail, especially following the bittersweet ending of the first series.😉
Nowadays especially the themes of Welcome to the NHK feel awfully relatable. This is an amazingly scripted video and I don't think I've ever been more shocked by someone's subcount relative to their videos quality. Of course real life growth has to start somewhere, keep it up!

ngl these topics weren't comfortable to hear because in a sense we're all battling reality, struggling to know what we want for ourselves. That it's easier just to escape and never come out. ReZero is the one anime that really hit me when the MC said there's nothing easy about giving up, I felt like that was me talking, why go on when you're going to fail again, that is what really got me, felt every last word there from the MC
@@IkkiNiko40 Yeah I understand, that’s kind of the reason I made this video. That sometimes there is no easy escape from our troubles. And yeah Subaru’s words about not giving up do hit hard. Thanks for the comment, I do promise my next video will be less painful.
@@mastershooter64 He's right though, giving up is changing and it takes courage to change. There are times where you might even need to give up on what you thought was your lifelong dream and move on to truly find your place in this world.
I would like to add Mushoku Tensei as a anime that had the mc escaped reality just to realised that his past traumas isn't easily treated that the "all I need is a fresh start" isn't the solution it's an excuse. This explores two sides of wanting change one side that wants it but is drowning flailing for breath swatting people away and the other is the one has their hands reaching out to finally get pulled out but it's slow since he's deep in water and even when he's out he needs to learn to swim. It's an great story about healing and changing to be a better self by taking steps even if you stumble as long as you don't stay on the ground indefinitely.
@@firelord1607 thats a great point! The only reason i didn’t put mushoku tensei in is because when I was making the video I hadn’t fully watched it, so i didn’t want to get anything wrong but i will definitely use it in a future video. Thanks for commenting and I’m glad you enjoyed the video!
I agree, and I’m glad you didn’t say it was about redemption because imo it isn’t. It’s about improvement and recovery. From my view redemption means he atoned for what he did when he didn’t, but he does change and realize what he did was wrong and regrets what he did. He knows that the things he did were unredeemable but moves on and becomes a better person anyways.
@@PH0S Yeah it would be weird to say he's a redeemed character at least in my definition of redemption it would been awful if he said he's fully redeemed of all past actions.

Re:Zero is one that I never thought of an a "escape" just due to the psychological horror themes, but Haruhi Suzumiya is one that I can immediately relate to as an escape, even though the story is a bizarre timeline. It's potential wacky and hilarious antics as well as deeply thought-provoking events made it especially bittersweet, but still one of my all-time favorites to date. NHK was so weird and cringey, I've tried to watch it twice and never made it past the first episode. There are many interesting escape anime that build you a wonder world to escape to with endearing characters that explore some really deep topics by the end. One example that immediately comes mind is Re:Life, another more mainstream example might be Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood. No spoilers though, just recommendations.
@@Landon783 I understand the rezero part, but that was the point I was trying to make, the first 10ish minutes of s1 episode 1 makes it seem like just another isekai, another escapist fantasy. But it actually becomes this dark and twisted reality which was the point i was trying to make. And yeah nhk is weird but it does get a lot deeper and more complex as the story progresses, especially the last few episodes which tackle a lot of darker themes. The whole point of its weirdness is done on purpose to illustrate how becoming a recluse can mess you up
RE Zero, Haruhi Suzumiya, Evangelion, they all are coming of age story, it's a challenge to easy escapism, it's about finding a right balance and becoming better person. Subaru is challenged to confront his flaw. Haruhi learned to be more responsible while still assertive and kyon learned that its fine to have status quo be disrupted. Evangelion is all about the fear of forming connection between character and at the end Shinji resolved to face the hardship of reality, to keep trying despite it rather than staying in the easy onmipotent of instrumentality.

2024 and more people have maladaptive daydreaming than know what the word even means... and the sad thing is - knowing this from playing pve multiplayer games - most just want to be appreciated for what they are best in life, or feel a sense of comradery or kinship, nothing more.
